Boris Johnson vs Rishi Sunak

colddayinhell · 22/10/2022 14:45

I think both are awful and we should have a general election but if you had to choose between these two, who would you choose to be PM?

YANBU = Boris
YABU = Rishi

Sunak is not for the people and how anyone can say he is not morally corrupt? Well tell people that when they see how much money his wife’s businesses were paid in furlough and then closed quick sharp when it ended and not paying their tax bills. The women made a fortune, How can you trust a man with those morals.
Lets not start with Boris.

neverbeenskiing · 22/10/2022 19:59

Given the looming prospect of us finding ourselves at war with Russia, I'd have to go with Boris.

Seriously? I cannot imagine anyone thinking "war is imminent, I'll feel safer if Boris is in charge!" This is a grown man who hid in a fridge to avoid a difficult conversation, hardly Zelensky is he? Surely if you're worried about the prospect of war with Russia then that'd be all the more reason to keep someone who has repeatedly shown themselves to be both reckless and spineless in equal measure out of power!

Given the looming prospect of us finding ourselves at war with Russia, I'd have to go with Boris. Rishi does not have the experience or personality to deal with Putin.

Agreed.

OdkinsBodkins · 22/10/2022 20:07

Rishi. Obviously.

DamnUserName21 · 22/10/2022 20:11

Scraping at the bottom but....Rishi. Unlikely to happen though as his ethnicity is unlikely to appeal to the old Tory party faithful.
Would be good for British-Indian relations though.

WhereIam · 22/10/2022 20:12

I wouldn't be so sure that racism doesn't run deep in the Tory party.

We have made it clear to schools…
… that it is illegal to teach the concept of “white privilege”…
… as though it were undisputed fact.

That is a quote from a speech given by Oliver Dowden, Chairman of the Conservative Party on the 15th of February this year in Washington DC to the Conservative party there.

This is a link to the full speech if anyone wants to raise their blood pressure.

I'm very far from a Tory imbecile.

It’s more because they love Boris and see him as someone who got rid of him

WhereIam · 22/10/2022 20:15

Imperialism is what might actually be our downfall.

HRTQueen · 22/10/2022 19:51

I don’t agree I think many would prefer a white PM over a brown PM

Racism runs deep in our society even if not openly expressed

Sometimes it is openly expressed. But you need to not be white to hear it.

SleeplessInEngland · 22/10/2022 18:53

Don’t get angry at me, I’m not a Tory member cretin who’s actually voting for these dickheads.

But if the tories need to properly crash and burn to learn its lesson then I’ve no choice but to be philosophical about it.

You described me as a cretin? Or who did you describe as a cretin?

Itslookinggood · 22/10/2022 20:22

I am afraid of the spine or unspoken racism in the tiny segment of our population - mainly older white men, living in south east England - that comprise Conservative party members.

i fear, even taking Boris out of the equation, that they’d opt for anyone white over anyone brown.

But why then did Badenoch poll so well? Previously

It's like asking why is Putin still in power. 😉

Itslookinggood · 22/10/2022 20:25

Badenoch was not voted for by the membership. She was knocked out before the process got to that stafe. She did well among Tory MPs.

HRTQueen · 22/10/2022 20:27

She didn’t get to the final two and not all Conservatives are racist

Johnson will be seen as more British that for many is important

Poll well - ie in the polls

I'm not sure that giving out peerages to members of the KGB is that mentally taxing.

I'm sure Rishi could manage it if he focused.

Croque · 22/10/2022 20:30

Well, there is the obvious racism but probably also a lack of ability to understand that not all immigrants/children of immigrants automatically gravitate towards the Labour Party. It probably confuses them on some level. It may take a few more generations before they get it.

Croque · 22/10/2022 20:32

In terms of liaising with Soviet countries, being white blonde is definitely a major advantage for Boris. They would not trust or accept Sunak in any meaningful way. It is not on the verge of changing either.

Itslookinggood · 22/10/2022 20:37

A poll is just a poll. It’s a tiny sample of a small population on one given day.

I fear that conscious or unconscious racism is inbuilt to many of thr older generation who comprise Conversative party members. Not all, but many.

I don't think the UK should be choosing their leader based on the racism of other countries.

I'm inclined to think we might do better picking the leader the Russians least want us have. Because they are likely to offer us the best chance of stability and economic growth.

Blossomtoes · 22/10/2022 20:41

The polls have been consistent for several weeks now. Denial runs deep.

OneFrenchEgg · 22/10/2022 20:43

I feel like Rishi dresses the part and is like the teachers pet kid at school everyone thinks is super clever.
There's just some doubts I have about things like writing off furlough debt, the (admittedly underhand timing of the leak) green card and non dom statuses, and the eat out to help out I feel like mainly middle class people got extra helpings at Wagamama really. Dc still lost their job when the restaurant closed where they worked.

BorisforPmx2 · 22/10/2022 20:52

New username and not a new poster. Tory supporter though so kill me now. 😂😂

just sent this message to a friend after a few wines , (sort of articulating the way I’ve felt since Thursday). News flash there’s a fuck ton of Boris lovers out here. I’ve found them amongst the unlikeliest of friends I’ve dared to ask the last few days. So I imagine it’s the same in everyone’s circles too.

“Penny just loves her big hair, and is as useless as Truss I’m betting , I liked Rishi but anyone would be a an economical genius with a billionaire wife. Boris has many faults but he makes me laugh and he always has the best take downs for twat Starmer who just likes to snipe at anything and have no plan while he plans to tax the workers to shit. “

So yeah, behold my amazing political post 😂, but this is probably typical of many conversations out there right now with a few wines on the go (the way we feel anyway but had to wait til Saturday night 😊… us silent Tories who kill kittens according to MN …..😂)
