make speeches lauding the UK for the opportunities it gave their parents and themselves then try to snatch them away from others after they have benefitted from those opportunities?
Makes no sense to me, at all 🤷‍♀️
Of course, the obvious answer is that their parents arrived into the UK via legal routes.
Many of those legal routes no longer exist (very deliberately) and this Government (if it can be called such) seems to be doing it’s level best to override the asylum system (as Conservative governments have been for some years).
I welcome immigration. Our nation is what it is thanks to it. Has been for millennia.

Well, she’s really outdone herself now, with her racist, homophobic and misogynistic bullshit in the US. Clearly aimed at a particular audience back home.
Anyone supporting this horrible, hate-driven rhetoric needs to take a long, hard look at themselves.
Donald Trump must think she’s real peachy.

Donald Trump the well known xenophobic racist misogynist ?

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/09/2023 15:58

The very same! Didn’t you hear, he thinks Rishi is smart. He doesn’t mind brown people at all if they support his agenda. Expect there’ll be a dinner invite winging it’s way.

@DashboardConfessional

(It's gross. Imagine pandering to voters who, if you had been born 30 years later, would take one look at you and your family in a boat on the channel and say the RNLI should let you drown*

Exactly this, I just can't fathom her reasoning at all!

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/09/2023 16:04

It’s pull the ladder up behind you syndrome.

Perfected by one: M. Thatcher - permed misogyny

Lozlozbozboz · 27/09/2023 16:14

I couldn't have put it better!

GrannyRose15 · 27/09/2023 16:35

LaGioconda · 29/05/2023 15:39

So you can't even attempt to explain your point or produce any evidence for it?

There is no point in trying to convince someone of what we are in danger of losing when they do not value it and have no understanding of history. Britain, particularly England, is a good place to live exactly because of the struggles the English people have endured over the last 1000 years. Many people in this country disdain this history. Some immigrants value it; most know nothing of it. Unless we can come together as a nation, recognise our heritage and strive to keep it alive we risk falling into the abyss where we will have no common values. And a community without common values isn’t a community at all; it is simply a collection of disparate groups.

SerendipityJane · 27/09/2023 16:46

At least she has admitted she's running for leader now.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/09/2023 16:47

Oh dear God.

I'm going to get a lot of shit for this, but I hate this kind of personal, vindictive posting about politicians. And I do think some of the attacks on Braverman (and Priti Patel) have a nasty undercurrent of racism and misogyny.

Let the personal attacks begin!

But her family weren't refugees why would they have been crossing the channel in a boat? It feels like there is some racial undertones to all of this. My family bought a house in Ireland and moved there from the UK, would people assume that I should have some kind of natural affinity with people crossing the channel to seek asylum?

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2023 17:34

Suella Braverman doesn't give a shit about the people of the UK, it's hardly surprising she doesn't give a shit about Asylum Seekers.

She's a lazy, thicko who would be better doing some work instead of embroiling the country in expensive, unwinnable legal cases and embarrassing us abroad.

JuvenileEmu · 27/09/2023 17:37

SerendipityJane · 25/05/2023 10:05

Arguably the biggest pull for immigrants and refugees is the one that - despite brave efforts by successive generations - cannot be changed. And it's entirely down to our sense of superiority historically.

The English language.

You really can't got to every corner of the globe, force this gowdawful abomination of a mother tongue on successive generations of subjugated peoples, and not expect it to leave a mark.

The mark in this case being that the only countries in the world that are ready made to accept someone with English as a second language are the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. I'm currently working with a South African so that might be a bit of balance. However their tales of history are fascinating. Including deliberately not teaching English to the blacks under apartheid.

I dunno, for a godawful abomination of a language, quite a lot of amazing literature has been written in it.

JuvenileEmu · 27/09/2023 17:38

AIR1904 · 26/09/2023 22:57

She is one of the ugliest people alive in every sense of the word. A vile pig of a Tory.

Well, that's certainly not at all misogynist.

SerendipityJane · 27/09/2023 17:39

But the lack of irony is a great drawback, surely ?

In comparison to the pp who I’m sure has scaled the heady heights of whatever they do

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2023 17:41

You don't need intelligence to succeed in today's Tory Party @lollipoprainbow.

No disagreement here. The post below a good example

At least she has admitted she's running for leader now.

So the question is, will Sunak be ousted before or after the next GE?

That's exactly it though, yes there is some racial undertones from some- they won't look further from the colour of your skin, you wouldn't get a chance.

I'd happily say the same about Boris Johnson.

SuperNewMe · 27/09/2023 18:10

@GrannyRose15 ·

Keep struggling. You might understand one day. But then of course it will be too late
Too late? What does that even mean?.Why? What is going to happen?

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2023 18:02

She needs to be in place as a contender, with an established base before whenever the election is. Whoever is leader when they lose is toast. Those up us who can remember Ted "Edward" Heath will know how it goes.

Dappy55 · 27/09/2023 20:09

She was definitely channeling her inner Enoch Powell in that speech. Just horrible
