Will Liz Truss resign today?

Or maybe Tuesday at the latest? Would she really want to face the absolute public humiliation of PMQs on Wednesday?

Yes, they will stagger on now
I doubt she's going anywhere

Wheresthebeach · 17/10/2022 17:43

Novum · 17/10/2022 17:32

But what have they done?

They aren't promoting Self ID. Baverman has clarified that schools don't have to support self id either. Labour will push through Self ID unless women make it clear that it will cost them votes. Hell she's finally telling the police to you know...act on crime, not arrest women for hurting men's feelings. As long as they block Self Id they are doing a lot for women. It's literally they only thing I can think of that they are doing right. Stonewall has infiltrated government departments and businesses - it needs dealing with. Maybe...maybe the Tories will look at it, but if women just ignore this then Labour will pass it.

Riceyyyy · 17/10/2022 17:45

@AliceNutter I don't watch the news or follow politics what the hell is going on she's only been prime minister a couple of months?

Bestcatmum · 17/10/2022 17:49

I just can't wait to see the carnage that is PMQ time. If she dares to attend it.

CPL593H · 17/10/2022 17:49

I feel zero sympathy for Truss. She was the architect of this disaster and was quick enough to get rid of Kwarteng to save her own skin, even though she was as much (more) responsible.

She's a glove puppet now. What she's done to the British people will make her a byword for incompetence and hubris for decades and the sooner the fool goes the better.

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 17:50

She'll be fine
She will take some tips from Penny
Mention the war
Say about her courage in sacking people
Be backed up by her friends
I bet they spin themselves out of it

I think I read somewhere that the 1922 Committee elect a new executive committee tomorrow and that it's less likely to contain Liz Truss supporters (are there any??) so yes, she might well be gone by Wednesday. If not she might try to stagger on until October 31st. But she's finished - it's just a matter of when.

Just in time for Halloween 😈

I don't think she'll be able to face it. Either she'll invent some spurious excuse genuine reason, or she will resign before Wednesday lunchtime.

IPSOS polling

A lot of slides

Slides 39 and 40 perhaps most pertinent

miceonabranch · 17/10/2022 17:53

Why was she sitting there smirking? What an awful person, after all the people's lives she's affected to be sitting there smirking like it's a game or something 😢 people are going to die because of what they've done and the forthcoming cutbacks 🤬

greenhousegal · 17/10/2022 17:54

Was Kamikwasi in the chamber today?

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 17:55

Laughing can be a sign of hysteria or madness too . Maybe it really is all too much
Either this or she doesn't care anymore
It is but a game

JinglingHellsBells · 17/10/2022 17:55

@Riceyyyy Where have you been to miss it all for the past few days?

username345 · 17/10/2022 17:56

reallyworriedjobhunter · 17/10/2022 06:31

Is it right that the 1922 committee can't do anything for a year? What would be the mechanism to remove her?

That press conference on Friday was horrific.

There can't be a vote of no confidence within the first 12 months. She can resign or they can change the rules.

Blossomtoes · 17/10/2022 17:57

SleeplessInEngland · 17/10/2022 17:13

The most interesting part of that poll is the 30 point Labour lead with voters over 65. That’s insane.

We’re not all stupid, you know.

JanglyBeads · 17/10/2022 17:57

Truss was with Sir Graham Brady earlier

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 17:59

Brady back from his trip to Greece!
I bet he is a bit fed you too

Normandy144 · 17/10/2022 18:00

I think she'll resign tomorrow.

theDudesmummy · 17/10/2022 18:01

Urgent visit to Kyiv on Wednesday anyone? She really is going to need to avoid PMQs.

(Looking at today's footage I felt compassion for her, as for any other obviously distressed person. Then I remembered she's a Tory prime minister).

Blocked · 17/10/2022 18:02

'Who in the fuck are the 20%?!'

Bankers, hedge fund managers, Russian oligarchs, retired Sue and Melvin from number 28 who think they're upper middle class?

theDudesmummy · 17/10/2022 18:03

Those IPSOS charts are just incredible!

Morceaux · 17/10/2022 18:06

Normandy144 · 17/10/2022 18:00

I think she'll resign tomorrow.

I do too. I can’t imagine her doing PMQs, and not turning up would be nuts even by today’s standards.

We really do need a GE though, even the most ardent Tories must be questioning the competence of their current rabble, whether or not Truss remains in office.

A third of the current MPs voted for her and her agenda. They are dangerously, dangerously stupid and there’s a lot on the line…

Blossomtoes · 17/10/2022 18:06

boys3 · 17/10/2022 17:52

Thank you. How on earth can they come back from that?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 17/10/2022 18:08

I think she'll go tomorrow as well. Her position isn't tenable and it is clearly making her unwell. She needs to go ASAP.

MarshaBradyo · 17/10/2022 18:12

It seems that, despite other differences, most agree that she should go.

I’ll be so disappointed if she’s doing PMQs, it’s not healthy at this point
