Or maybe Tuesday at the latest? Would she really want to face the absolute public humiliation of PMQs on Wednesday?

@Wheresthebeach It is under conservatives that men have got into women's prisons.
Anyway Penny is tipped for future PM. She has publicly says she thinks a man can be a woman.

And then she backtracked on that - meaning that neither side trusts her now. However I don't think self id is a Tory policy like it is Labours.

It's an utter shit show, and like a lot of women who have always voted 'left' it leaves us politically homeless.

MarshaBradyo · 17/10/2022 17:14

Oh right I wasn’t aware of that

The 10 minute rule bill is probably the only exception, because a minister can and will comment after a backbencher's statement if it's their area. But it's more in the vein of a reply than a contribution.

Wheresthebeach · 17/10/2022 17:12

Labour is committed to self ID. Any male, anytime can enter women's changing room, safe spaces, jails etc just by announcing they are a woman. I can't believe women don't see the danger. Rees-Mogg is a disgrace, and the Tories are corrupt and incompetent but that doesn't mean I don't see the risk that self id brings to the table.

Absolutely this, and the bigger a majority they command, the less resistance there will be.

I really hope the ride is turning on this nonsense though. Surely Starmer can see what an electoral Achilles heel it is? The Tories have made hay with it for the past three years. I genuinely don't believe he's committed to it, and I really think he would be delighted if Eddie Izzard disappeared down a giant sink hole right now never to be seen again, rather than making a play for Sheffield and running around embarrassing Labour during a GE campaign.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 17/10/2022 17:17

I'm usually the first to enjoy a bit of schadenfreude at the Tories' expense. I like to see them squirm as they usually deserve to do so.

Liz Truss deserves to squirm too, but I am not enjoying watching her downfall. I don't want to see her having a very public breakdown. They need to remove her now without any further delay, and let her have some privacy.

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 17:17

At least Boris Johnson used to speak , even if it was mostly bluster and lies or whatever!

urbanbuddha · 17/10/2022 17:18

If she's actually having a breakdown- and I can find no other explanation for this bizarre behaviour - then the people around her really need to take charge and put her out of her misery. If she is unwell, then someone needs to persuade her to step down. It's cruel to let someone publicly unravel like this.

Yes, I agree.

antelopevalley · 17/10/2022 17:18

Look at Hunt's past performance. He is incompetent. He can simply talk better than Liz - not hard.

Howdoisawwithnosaw · 17/10/2022 17:19

sunnydaytoday0 · 17/10/2022 17:01

The aforementioned poll is out:

Labour leads by 36%.!!!!

Largest lead for ANY party with ANY polling company since October 1997.
Westminster VI (16 Oct.):
Labour 56% (+3)
Conservative 20% (-4)
Lib Dems 11% (-2)
Green 5% (+2)
SNP 4% (–)
Reform UK 2% (–)
Other 1% (-2)
Changes +/- 13 Oct.

Who in the fuck are the 20%?!

AutumnCrow · 17/10/2022 17:20

Mordaunt did an interview with Sky TV some years ago, prior to Canibet status I think, about how she 'brought up' her brothers.

That went well.

Booklover3 · 17/10/2022 17:20

Hunt can communicate well, yes.
Hunt definitely looks more leader like.
Hunt is still a snake.

Our public services can’t withstand more austerity. Neither can the vast majority of the public. They will make us pay for their incompetent ten times over.

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 17/10/2022 17:21

Hunt just said he can't guarantee the pension triple lock. He won't be popular if that goes.

Wheresthebeach · 17/10/2022 17:21

You'd think so...but until they say something publicly I got to assume he's believes in Self ID. At the moment, he squirms like a worm on a hook when asked what a woman is.

Both parties were hugely influenced by Stonewall. So far...only one if moving away. It's just heart breaking that it's not Labour.

pointythings · 17/10/2022 17:22

@Howdoisawwithnosaw you have but to read some threads on this topic to work out who they are. They're the die hard cap doffing toxic nostalgia smoking EU and foreigner hating I'm Alright Jack brigade and they will always vote Tory.

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 17:22

Hunt is being covert though
Of course the NHS will be cut. It's on the cards.
It's just sad it has to happen , again :(
Savings , cut backs , it always affects the electorate.

Jourdain11 · 17/10/2022 17:22

But she never would be expected to speak at the Chancellor's statement. She's just there to look on side. It's not (that) weird for her to leave after, either.

Otoh, she should have taken Starmer's UQ. But the Tories have form on this. Sajid Javid was always not turning up for UQs and sending the under sub parliamentary bootpolisher to take his place; it used to drive Bercow nuts.*

*which is probably why they did it.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/10/2022 17:22

Truss looked drugged up. Not normal behaviour.

Hunt has reversed almost every one of her/Kwarteng's mini budget initiatives, she has no authority left.

There needs to be a General Election as soon as possible

QuebecBagnet · 17/10/2022 17:23

jennakong · 17/10/2022 17:10

I wonder if Truss would be returned by the good folk of North Norfolk or wherever in the event of a GE? Has a PM ever been unseated in an election? I think I read the other day that Boris's seat in Uxbridge was looking a bit ropey.

Wouldn't Election Night be sensational, all the same?

Normally none of the main parties field a candidate against a prime minister in a GE.

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 17:23

Removing the triple lock removes the main conservative vote. I doubt they will do this

pointythings · 17/10/2022 17:24

I do actually feel sorry for Liz Truss on a personal level because I very much doubt she is getting the care and support someone in her condition needs. She's being subjected to the worst manifestation of Tory backstabbing seen to date.

antelopevalley · 17/10/2022 17:24

But they threatened to remove the triple lock.

vera99 · 17/10/2022 17:24

That was excruciating though looking at her stupid blank face, her eyes darting everywhere weird nervous movements of her jaw. Think it has dawned on her that her whole life she's been deluded about her own abilities. Happened to a boss of mine decades ago who was full of himself and a bit of arse and then one day came into work and it was like he just wasn't there. It lasted for weeks - he was functional but only just. Classic nervous breakdown. Probably x1000 when you've blown up both the economy, your party and your reputation.

And what exactly have the Tories done in the past 12 years to stop self ID?

Howdoisawwithnosaw · 17/10/2022 17:19

Who in the fuck are the 20%?!

There are people who will vote for one political party no matter who the candidates are. It is those who won't who decide the results of elections.

Why are your posts always so lacking in compassion?

This is going to be controversial but I'm finding hunt pleasing to listen too.

He seems far far more transparent and open than his predecessor. Infact some one has just said his tone is calm and competent.

He has said he will also consult the experts..

I'm not sure/convinced exactly who are his experts.... but after the shadowy dealings of KK AND TRUSS...this feels more hopeful.

I don’t mind his voice but I feel a bit like I’m at church again, comforting but zoning out a bit

Then again might just be out politicsed
