Anyone else rooting for Helen Skelton to win strictly?

Ive just been reading how her ex husband and new partner are expecting a baby.....after leaving her less than a year ago.

I can't even imagine what she must be feeling however a 'source' said they wouldn't expect Helen to be too bothered because they have both moved on with their lives.

How the hell can you move on so quickly? She was pregnant with his child this time last year and they have a baby less than a year old! If I was Helen, I would be absolutely devastated.

I wouldn't usually post things like this but I feel for Helen so much - I want her to win strictly!

Unless I am completely wrong and she doesn't give a f**k - if that's the case then all credit to her!

She is so lovely too, very bubbly and down to earth. I hope she does really well on Strictly.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/10/2022 07:17

hmm
well she is a good dancer
i havent read much about her personal life so i would have to vote if i liked her and her dancing.

Mummummummumyyyyy · 13/10/2022 07:19

Her ex sounds like an absolute arsehole and she is welll rid. She must be absolutely devastated really.

I get it goes on dancing skill obviously....maybe I should re phrase - I hope she gets tons of support and it really boosts her career and leads her to all the happiness she deserves.

Her relationship and personal problems should have no bearing on her strictly performance.

She is an okay dancer, but she won’t win, nor should she just because she’s had a shit time of it.

SavoirFlair · 13/10/2022 07:22

I don’t vote for people because they’re the poster child / standard bearer of a wronged woman.

What others see as “bubbly” and “down to earth” I hear as highly irritating with the depth of a small puddle.

I think she’s well aware of the sympathy vote etc, and how many other hurt women will be seeing her as the one to side with in this year’s dance.

I just couldn't believe the article saying how they have both moved on so this new pregnancy shouldn't upset anyone. Also that she's too busy on Strictly to even care!

Absolute utter rubbish. If that's true then fair play to her, she's a stronger woman than I could ever be.

I've always liked her as a media personality but recently.... Wow, talk about a kick in the teeth and yet she keeps going. Really admire her. Great dancer and love watching her

sandytooth · 13/10/2022 07:24

I don't think anyone should get the sympathy vote, it should be based on the dancing. It never is though.

I very much doubt she would want the sympathy vote to be honest. I do hope she has lots of women supporting her though

I met her in person through work a few years back and really didn’t warm to her so definitely not rooting for her I’m afraid.

Joewasmyfave · 13/10/2022 07:30

Her ex is a massive bellend who left when his 3rd child was a newborn and who has repeatedly gone out of his way to publicly humiliate his ex. I would love Helen to win strictly and stick 2 fingers up to her loser of an ex 👍👍

IamThegreaterMole · 13/10/2022 07:30

It would be a weird reason to vote for someone in Strictly though.

Why though? If the source is to be believed she's doing ok and has moved on. She doesn't need support any more than any of the others

AnnaTheMouse · 13/10/2022 07:33

I like Helen Skelton a lot. I didn't know that about her nasty ex!

I also like Fleur and Ellie T (but mainly because I love Johannes)

@sandytooth it's a source from her ex husbands side so that says it all to me.

Ah fair enough. Still she might be perfectly fine without him and realise she's had a lucky escape. Plus it will be nice for her baby to have a half sibling. I just don't think we should leap automatically to poor Helen when she might just be "meh" about it all and be living a happy and fulfilled life not even thinking about him other than great..its in the papers again.

Riverlee · 13/10/2022 08:07

I knew she’d split from her husband but hadn’t realised she had a young baby at the time. Must be awful for her.

Reminds me of Christen Horner who’s ex partner had a young baby when he left her, got together and married Gerry within a relatively short space of time.

PAFMO · 13/10/2022 08:08

I like her, (didn't know her before Strictly) but I don't (at the moment) see her as the winner.
They will all have a #sadstory #nanvideo to show us over the next two months, that's one thing that's for sure.
If any contestant didn't do one, that's the one I'd potentially vote for.
But as they all do, I go with the dancing improvement plus personality.
I don't vote for ringers, or actors that shoehorn how hard they are working outwith Strictly.

LivesinLondon2000 · 13/10/2022 08:11

I was just about to post a similar thread. I haven’t watched Strictly for the last couple of years but I think I will now and will definitely be voting for Helen.
I just can’t believe what her ex has done. It’s one thing having an affair and maybe the new girlfriend got pregnant accidentally (on purpose) but it’s completely another to flaunt it on social media. He really is a total lowlife and I hope his friends and family have told him so. There was a photo today of the new girlfriend and her parents with Richie all smiling and posing together. What kind of parents support their daughter getting together with someone who’s just left his wife and 3 kids one of whom is not even a year old?
Another Helen will definitely be getting my vote!!

Exactly.

Perhaps she doesn’t want it brought up and would prefer to be judged on her dancing. I wouldn’t want the sympathy vote.

It’s sad she chose a shithouse to shack up with, but that doesn’t mean I should “support” her on a dancing competition. She’s got the personality of a wet kipper, the “emotion” she tried to portray in hopelessly devoted was just blank face. Much more interesting and better dancers to get behind.

Van96 · 13/10/2022 08:23

I don't know about her performance on Strictly - don't watch it - but she is absolutely dreadful on Radio 5, excitable and vacuous, baffled how she got that gig. Sorry her ex-husband has been such a dick to her though.
