Anyone else rooting for Helen Skelton to win strictly?

Ive just been reading how her ex husband and new partner are expecting a baby.....after leaving her less than a year ago.

I can't even imagine what she must be feeling however a 'source' said they wouldn't expect Helen to be too bothered because they have both moved on with their lives.

How the hell can you move on so quickly? She was pregnant with his child this time last year and they have a baby less than a year old! If I was Helen, I would be absolutely devastated.

I wouldn't usually post things like this but I feel for Helen so much - I want her to win strictly!

Unless I am completely wrong and she doesn't give a f**k - if that's the case then all credit to her!

The best revenge is a life well lived, so I agree with a pp that I hope she does well on Strictly (but wouldn't vote for her just because of his poor behaviour), regains her confidence (a la Alesha Dixon!) and gets the boost to her career that she's no doubt hoping for by appearing on the show!

Absolutely this! I don't think Helen would want a sympathy vote for a second, plus it's not fair on other contestants but this could lead to some very big things for her and hopefully give her the boost she needs. That's what I'm rooting for!

Honestly, why would I want someone to win based on rumours from the side bar of shame?

As a TV personality, she has always managed to irritate me. There isn't a lot going on upstairs. She can copy and do what others tell her in an overexcited childish way but that's about it. She's all round a bit dull tbh.

In terms of entertainment, skillband likeability there's other contestants I much prefer.

And I bet she isn't the only one with a good backstory of heart break.

I don't get why we should all vote for on the basis of a bloke potentially being a bit of a shit and the idea that she must be utterly devastated and grieving for having lost relationship with shitty bloke. For all we know baby might have been a 'let's have a baby to save our relationship' baby and they realised that wasn't working and they are both genuinely happier apart.

Why does she have to be judged and given pity party votes rather than be judged on her skills and entertainment value?

Its all really rather patronising.

I don't want her to win as Will and Tyler are better dancers, but I would like her to do well, stay in a bit and gain confidence. I have warmed to her more than I thought I would and she is much better than I thought she'd be.

I love Will also. Great dancer, he was so good on Saturday! The way he spoke about his mum on Saturday was also lovely. Love him!

I know what you mean
Some men are just like that tho unfortunately but she's moved on and he's moved on so hopefully she's happy.
I'd like to see her win tho not because of all this but I think she's great on strictly.
I'm a great believer in people winning because they're the best dancer - not for any other reasons and in the past some have won and they maybe weren't the best but had more PR coverage for other stuff

Mulhollandmagoo · 13/10/2022 09:21

I'm with you 100% OP, I'd love her to do well. If anything just to give her confidence a huge boost, you can see the whole thing has knocked her.

logana · 13/10/2022 09:24

I'm very sorry for what happened to her but I only want her to win if she's the best dancer.

sandytooth · 13/10/2022 09:24

@RedToothBrush That's the word I was trying to think of. Patronising.

Rosehugger · 13/10/2022 09:24

I love Will also. Great dancer, he was so good on Saturday! The way he spoke about his mum on Saturday was also lovely. Love him!

He's so Stockport as well, it makes me laugh. The way he just went "You alright, luv?" to Nancy when she was being her usual hyperactive self 😂

He's great isn't he 😂

He used to have a channel type thing with Ralph Little, they are so funny together. If you haven't seen it, search 'Will Mellor cat story' on YouTube. So funny!

And when he said Nancy was crazy as a box of frogs - she totally comes across that way, but you never hear anyone say anything like that!

Samcro · 13/10/2022 09:32

i won't be voting for her because she has had a shit time.

Knickknacklover · 13/10/2022 09:32

No. I haven’t warmed to her, and I don’t think she’s the best dancer. Warmed to Ellie T, Ellie S, Hamza, and think Will has got great potential as a dancer (gives me the ick though). Tyler’s Charleston was incredible, and if he can get anywhere near that level in weeks to come, could be a winner.

SirChenjins · 13/10/2022 09:36

No - I find her intensely irritating and have switched off anything she’s appeared on over the years. I know she’s very fit and can abseil and stuff, but she’s one of those generic presenters these TV production companies wheel out when they want someone pretty to read from an autocue to dumb down a programme.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2022 09:40

I don't vote, but I do watch strictly and although she's good there are others who are better ( Tyler and Molly )
She must be devastated about her private life , but things happen and people move on
He sounds a shit , but hopefully he pays his way and they can co parent their child.

AuntieMarys · 13/10/2022 09:43

No. I'm not swayed by sob stories about the contestants.....its a bit like the X factor ones who were always bullied or their nan has died.

ArcaneWireless · 13/10/2022 09:57

I don’t think she will win.

She is now without a bit of a twat in her life.

That is a win. And far better than a glitter ball.

PAFMO · 13/10/2022 10:06

PinkyandtheBrainBrainBrainBrainBrain · 13/10/2022 09:09

Has she spoken of it on strictly at all?

I think we'll get a "picking myself up and getting on with things my children are my life my friends and relatives are my world" video sooner or later that won't mention him at all.
A cocklodging douchebag mention isn't really for family Saturday night viewing but everyone will know what she means.
As pp mentioned, Alesha Dixon was in a similar situation iirc when she did SCD.

PAFMO · 13/10/2022 10:09

bettyfretty · 13/10/2022 09:16

But you say yourself you want her to win because of her sad story!
They've all got one. It's become part of the MO.
I always imagine them going "now, soap star, you can come on SCD, but we're going to need a nan-vid or a rags-riches, or a overcome-obstacles gig"

MarshaMelrose · 13/10/2022 10:12

If she's the best, I hope she wins.
If not, I hope she doesn't.
I hate people getting votes because they have a sad story.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2022 10:12

I admire these celebs who can be out of the home all day when they have small children at home. Even if she has relatives or a nanny doing the heavy lifting , it must be difficult at times holding it together and a year after giving birth isn't that much time to feel yourself again , let alone train for 12 hours to learn a new routine each week!
They are far more driven than I would be

SoupDragon · 13/10/2022 10:14

I don't necessarily want the best dancer to win as they are often Ringers. It's progress that does it for me and those that have clearly had a whale of a time.

I've been where Helen is (minus the public nature of it!) and she won't get a sympathy vote from me although I hope this gives her a huge mental boost.

Rosehugger · 13/10/2022 10:18

As pp mentioned, Alesha Dixon was in a similar situation iirc when she did SCD

Wow, I didn't know that. SCD did so much for her TV career.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2022 10:19

I was pleased when Bill Bailey won it as it went against the normal type of winners!
She'll probably do well, but I still think others are better than her. She might pick up a few more votes because of what happened, but mostly it is the actual dance that is more important than their private lives.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/10/2022 10:21

it is, thinking of Bill Bailey, for the public, a popularity contest
i dont think sad stories hold much sway

Cheminaufaules · 13/10/2022 10:22

Definitely want Helen to win. She's a wonderfully graceful dancer in spite of lacking some self-confidence.
