And whereabouts do you live because it makes a difference if you're on Shetland compared to central London. My hall is 14.6 and my living room 16.1. Bedroom 15 The heating isn't on. North West England. Thank goodness the sun is out today because yesterday was so cold wet and windy.

South West. House is 18 degrees. Heating not on but will come on at 6pm if temperature drops. Feels fine atm.

purplethings · 01/10/2022 13:54

If you're home working put a thick table cloth over your desk down to the floor and a small fan heater underneath. It's a tip I discovered in Nepal where they use charcoal brasiers in the same way. Obviously make sure the heater isn't in contact with the fabric. This way when sitting at your desk, with your legs under the table, your whole body keeps warm for a fraction of the cost.

Always4Brenner · 01/10/2022 13:57

Had on for half an hour blanket now oil heater later on.

cardibach · 01/10/2022 13:58

My heating is set to come on for an hour or so in t(e morning and through the evening with its thermostat set at 18. It came on last night for a short time and again this morning. I’m in an old terrace with no cavity wall or damp proofing and lime plaster. It holds the heat pretty well but I can’t let it get damp - I have to ensure the lime plaster breathes. Fresh air (open windows and doors at times heating won’t come on) and warmth. To be honest, below 18 isn’t comfortable for me either so I’d probably do something similar anyway.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/10/2022 13:59

23.5 (living room which is warmest) no heating. (Boiler is buggered) Faces WSW. Sunny intervals. Duplex flat with one outside wall and roof which I need to insulate more. Mr downstairs has heating.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/10/2022 14:02

(sorry forgot to say: in West mids)

StJeanDeVence · 01/10/2022 14:04

South-east / coast. The smart meter in our north-facing, dark and chilly sitting room says 14.5 degrees. DH is watching tv under a blanket in there, but I find it a depressing room during the day, so I'm in the south-facing kitchen and it's much better in here. I'm warm enough with two thin layers on.

I think I will be living in here during the week. My office is north-facing as well and I'm dreading another WFH winter in there.

No thermostat here so we switch the heating on when we can't bear it any more...it will be blankets and hot water bottles ahoy this winter!

High5InALowRide · 01/10/2022 14:05

16.5 today, it was 14.5 yesterday so we had the fire on to get it up to 16.

PledgeDusterMop · 01/10/2022 14:42

Wales- 17 degrees outside, sunny but blustery at the moment.
Heating does come on for a short while morning and evenings if thermostat drops below 20 degrees.
Heating not on during the day or overnight.
Currently 19 degrees in my living room , dual aspect south and north orientation.
Kitchen diner is 19 too, again same aspect.
We use layers, warm drinks, blankets and thick socks with slippers during the day when heating is off.

dwightkurtschrute · 01/10/2022 14:44

17/18 here depending on which room!
No heating on yet!

Mxflamingnoravera · 01/10/2022 14:48

My terraced house in Bristol is 17 degrees and I think I am about to put the heating on for an hour or so a day to heat it through. I'll switch to halogen heaters in the room I'm in for more targeted heat. I live alone in the house and don't have thermostats on all my rads and one is wedged behind a huge cupboard which I cannot budge (which is really annoying and I should have thought of it before putting the huge dresser style cupboard in the alcove. I'm off to turn off the rads in the unused bedrooms now!

Mrsmch123 · 01/10/2022 14:52

21.8 my heating is connected to my hive which I have set to 22 so it clicks on and off when needed. I'm in Scotland

High5InALowRide · 01/10/2022 14:53

High5InALowRide · 01/10/2022 14:05

16.5 today, it was 14.5 yesterday so we had the fire on to get it up to 16.

Sorry should have said, we are Yorkshire!

Madcats · 01/10/2022 14:56

18.8 at in our lounge (coldest room) in Bath, but we've had the doors and windows open.

17 degrees outside.

DH and I are both getting over covid this week, so might pop the woodburner on for a bit tonight. Teen wanders about in shorts and t shirt, so I can't see her complaining about the cold for a while.

We dis building work one winter and we worked on the basis that we were fine without heating unless there was nowhere in the house above 16 degrees.

Marmite27 · 01/10/2022 15:02

Leeds. Single skin, end terrace.

It says 17.5 which is floor height on the landing, in the shade.

The living room is in full sun and nice and warm. Littlest DC isn’t wearing a tshirt because they’re too hot.

Southwest12 · 01/10/2022 15:02

NW, thermostat is in living room which gets the sun. Currently says 19c. Heating is still set for summer so will only come on if it drops below 16. Thinking of keeping it like that, it's normally set to come on if drops below 18 morning and evening.

SzeliSecond · 01/10/2022 15:06

Not sure inside. It's 15c outside and quite toasty in the house without heating but not as many windows open today

whatthejuice · 01/10/2022 15:06

South East...19 degrees in the hall. Warmer in the sitting room and upstairs. Heating hasn't been on since late April.

Arou · 01/10/2022 15:09

In the South and ours has been between 16 and 18

Sooverthisnow · 01/10/2022 15:59

Do you think that everyone has just got used to house temperatures being high? I don’t think I’ve ever set a thermostat to 21, but then I’m old and remember homes with no central heating where we all pulled on an extra jumper and huddled round the fire in the living room before making a quick dash up to bed in the evening.
If everyone turned their thermostats down a couple of degrees , would people eventually acclimatise?

I’ve just worked out that using the kettle on my log burner is going to save me about £20 a year. 😕

fishonabicycle · 01/10/2022 16:02

No idea what the temperature is in here, buts it's not cold today (east Sussex). House is a small poorly insulated cottage with rubbish old single glazed windows. We've been having fires in the evening, but no heating as yet

zingally · 01/10/2022 16:58

It's 20 in the hall, according to our thermostat. It's a mid-floor flat, with only 2 external walls facing East and West. Heating will stay off as long as possible!

NiqueNique · 01/10/2022 17:03

Flats are great from that perspective. I could keep my heating off, or at least on very low, for quite a lot longer when I lived in my flat - at least a month, I’d say - because I got heat from above and below when others turned theirs on.

Iwanttoholdyourham · 01/10/2022 17:07

No idea what the temperature is. Heating isn't on, though.

Haven't changed usage all year (use as little as possible, never put the heating on), and my actual usage in £ has apparently just jumped 44%. 🤷‍♀️

SomethingVexesThee · 01/10/2022 17:09

@IncompleteSenten I'm intrigued! Why did you have your heating set to 20 overnight?
