Neo pronouns

Sparklybutold · 28/09/2022 23:49

Last year - colleague was they/them, now per/pers.

So, are they a load of crap and will hopefully disappear soon or time for change and respect for peoples choices.

Neopronouns aren't actually pronouns, they don't do the same thing grammatically and are totally pointless for that purpose. Which is to replace an individual proper noun with a fairly simple and universal referent.

Sexed pronouns work because with very rare expectations we all know and remember very easily whether individuals are male or female, and most proper names also give a strong indication. And awareness of sex is important enough in our brains that it is not something we tend to forget abut a person, once we know it we just know it, even if we do forget the individual's name.

It's just an attention grab by people who are either very immature or not that bright.

Donehere · 30/09/2022 01:08

Don't worry I think they are referring to the transixties which were actually last Tuesday

No need to be a bully. I didn't reply because I don't live on the internet and only just saw your nasty post after getting an alert from MN that I was mentioned in a post. You really must have quite a chip on your shoulder and for that I am truly sorry.

Hi mum, next time you are back online please could you educate us in this so very simple issue . Thanks.
I mean I had a go myself but just came up with
fairplayforwomen.com/pronouns/

www.feministcurrent.com/2021/07/28/the-problem-with-preferred-pronouns/

And a few more, and your version of being kind and remembering pronouns is not the same as the versions I'm finding. But you did say it's simple, so I'm sure you can easily educate us all.

TheClitterati · 30/09/2022 09:30

TheClitterati
Alternatively I will declare he/him pronouns (I'm a woman) and totally fuck with them.

Bring it on.

But, why? That is just bullying. Why would you do that? Why not just live and let live?*

Yes compelling the speech of others is bullying- I agree. Which is why I oppose gender ideology & the entire pronoun declaring shitshow.

either we are entitled to compel third parties speech or we are not. I think we aren't. But if I was forced into doing something I disagreed with I will use what is available to me to protest.

Me declaring "he/him" pronouns is no more or less ridiculous than anyone else declaring their pronouns.

SofiaSoFar · 29/09/2022 09:41

If there's one single thing the Tory party might be good for it's taking on this sort of lefty bollocks.

But we will see...

Well 90% of the current shit show happened while the Tories were in power. So don't hold your breath.

It's Mumsnetters, GC, rad gems and other activists who are changing things. We all need to get involved.

Sparklybutold · 30/09/2022 09:42

@Kumri this may soun strange I actually didn't think about the angle of the element of control of what you call someone when they're not there.

Dacadactyl · 30/09/2022 09:51

I don't even understand that. What is per/pers?

They need their head testing.

Sparklybutold · 30/09/2022 10:05

@Moonatics

Alle-fucking-lujah! Thank you for those articles - they concisely express everything that bothers me about it. As a victim of abuse, this is why its impacted me so much. I so badly want to post these on my what's app group for those entering the new year and who will be faced with this but I fear if I do it'll initiate a shitstorm which I just don't want to have to handle. Once again, the woman's voice is silenced. But I know I can't be the only one.

@Moonatics and a poster was banned for posting about pronouns - under what reasons?

OP posts:
Sparklybutold · 30/09/2022 10:06

@Dacadactyl

On the brief reading I have done - per is a neo pronoun used by non-binaries

The arrogance of someone dictating how you refer to him/her/whatever in his/her/whatever’s absence is breathtaking. I’ll call you whatever I want if you’re not actually there to hear it 🤦‍♀️

Pronouns haven't correlated to biological sex since the 60's so not sure why so many are still stuck on this point since it's hardly a new thing.

The amount of pronouns used now is new, but to sit and claim you're confused by something that's been changing for the past 60 years is a bit odd.

Pronouns have continued to correlate since the 1960's. WTF are you talking about?

No fucking way am I calling anyone pers. Doesn't even make sense

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I still don't really understand and I've just realised I don't care enough to look it up!

LovinglifeAF · 30/09/2022 10:20

I will never use “neo pronouns”, they’re not a thing.

in terms of the rest of it, I’ll decide the language I use when referring to someone thanks. In a lot of cases I’ll use the chosen pronoun (he/she/them) as a courtesy, but as a minimum this does not extend to people like Sam Smith, Eddie Izzard, sporting cheats, criminals.

I’m not obliged to partake in a practice which shows submission to an ideology I do not share simply to make others feel “comfortable”.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2022 10:26

That's such bollocks. The only fairly widespread change in pronoun usage is that 'they' is now more commonly used when referring to a third person of unknown sex, instead of defaulting to 'he' - which was actually pronouns not correlating with sex any more once more women took up stereotypically male roles. The use of 'they' for third person of unknown sex is of course centuries old and so commonly used we don't even notice it - just that this has increased in documentation, workplace handbooks etc in recent decades as it was realised using 'he' as a default was sexist.

Apart from that, the correlation between sex and the appropriately gendered pronoun is still the automatic norm. Pronouns don't fulfil their function if you need to think about them.

I'm actually amazed this thread is still in aibu. Normally they are segregated off to the correct section in fwr.
Aaaaand now I mention it, it'll probably be moved. So if your reading this before its moved, hi and welcome to the fwr (sex and gender not fwr chat) . Your views are allowed here, within guidelines which you must read(or know by osmosis)

So no we are not silenced, except we really are because a whole hard to find section is for us and our threads there hardly ever appear on trending, even the mega threads like allison baileys and similar.

Dweetfidilove · 30/09/2022 11:36

Didn't realise there was such a thing. I'm yet to do the whole she/her/him/it thing at work, so didn't even notice this has moved on.
Give me strength 😢

Moonatics · 01/10/2022 11:43

So mumtobabyhavoc hasn't returned to educate us in this oh so simple stuff and actually more surprising (cos we all know mum wont be back or if she comes back it'll just be to berate us all some more) is that this thread hasn't been moved. Is that the recent court cases where our views are woriad? Or has it been overlooked? Or have the monitors en mass gone on holiday with no internet?

Sparklybutold · 01/10/2022 17:40

I'm having an interesting debate with someone - are pronouns for societies benefits or for the individul

I wish we could just have an anti-trans topic I could hide, these threads are so tiring.

Whenever I read this sort of rubbish, I think it sounds like the same sorts of "isn't it ridiculous and laughable" commentary that the early campaigners for women's rights received.

OMG12 · 01/10/2022 18:11

I just ignore shite like this, hopefully it will die a death, once these teens hit their 30s they will have long forgotten about it as they actually have to be responsible adults and worry about paying the mortgage, the next generation will be along with some other shite to make them different from the boring 30 year olds. The 30 year olds will roll their eyes at the shite the teens are spouting

It's nothing of the sort. Early women's rights campaigners were asking for equal rights, not compelling others to buy into unscientific and unfactual flights of fancy to validate their made-up gender.
