Last year - colleague was they/them, now per/pers.

So, are they a load of crap and will hopefully disappear soon or time for change and respect for peoples choices.

Did just cole across this in my googling which I thought was interesting in terms of perspective and insight.

‘Many people have argued that neopronouns relating to a theme such as animals or mystic creatures are comforting for neurodivergent people to use. This is because neurodivergent people, especially those on the autistic spectrum, tend to have trouble understanding and relating to societal norms and social constructs. Therefore, since gender has been found to be a social construct, they may have a complicated relationship with their gender identity.’

🙈

I don’t really understand why there’s so many pronouns, but I do think it’s important to respect others’ choices and help them feel ‘seen’ and valued, so I’m happy to call my colleagues whatever they want to be called really.

I'm menopausal and yesterday could not remember the words 'fridge' or 'eulogy'. It's ridiculous to expect me to personalise everyone's pronouns and remember those.

EbbyEbs · 29/09/2022 07:23

I don’t engage with this attention seeking shite personally - I’d just call them by their name (although these days they’re likely to have given themselves an attention seeking name too in preparation for people not falling for the pronoun shite)

I'm neurodivergent and think its all a load of bollocks and a sign that a person is mentally unwell. I see it all the time on asd groups. These individuals are deeply unwell , with very chaotic lives.

ElEmEnOhPee · 29/09/2022 07:26

Those of you who go along with this to respect how people view themselves or whatever, if an anorexia with body dysmorphia told you they knew they were fat would you agree with them because that's how they see themselves? I'm struggling massively to see the difference because by agreeing with either group you are potentially causing them harm as well as gaslighting yourself (and/or others if you're the type to insist everyone else goes along with it too).

ShhDoNotTell · 29/09/2022 07:30

Nobody had any right to be ‘validated’ by someone else. If your self perception is that bloody tenacious then you need to work on your self-esteem not convincing others to use your made up labels in an effort to make you feel more special.

Thankfully freedom of speech is still alive and well and I refuse to participate in this farce. Frankly, if the people who spent all their time navel gazing went out and did some significant volunteer work with the disadvantaged, they might stop focussing all of their attention on ‘me, me, me!’.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 29/09/2022 07:41

@Mumtobabyhavoc What about the children who are upset by this? Teachers, parents and more importantly the schoolchildren are upset and protesting about this. As one schoolboy said: "this is a school, not a circus"
Their rights and comfort are far more important than one pervert being allowed to express his fetish (in a school!) but as usual these people's rights come before everyone else's.

A COLLEAGUE told you this? Where do you work that such nonsense is entertained for even one second?

Igneococcus · 29/09/2022 07:56

How can something be "neo" and hundreds of years old?

VestaTilley · 29/09/2022 08:03

It’s such narcissistic bollocks. I refuse to play along.

Pixnix · 29/09/2022 08:07

Ihatethenewlook · 28/09/2022 23:58

I think my head would explode if I had to remember shite like that. Just call them what you normally would

How do you remember people's names then?

TheClitterati · 29/09/2022 08:25

If my employer ever insists we do pronouns I'm going to declare some neo pronouns & when they don't use them I will have a great case for a big payout for misgendering blah blah blah.

HR people across they nation must be horrified.

TheClitterati · 29/09/2022 08:27

Alternatively I will declare he/him pronouns (I'm a woman) and totally fuck with them.

Bring it on.

TheClitterati · 29/09/2022 08:29

It may happen sooner than later as every day I'm seeing new pronouns in email signatures. Yesterdays was "Dave (he/him)"
The day before was "Robert (he/him)"

🙄

FrancescaContini · 29/09/2022 08:30

Haven’t read beyond the OP but Jesus your colleague sounds feckin tiresome.

Naunet · 29/09/2022 08:31

It’s a loads of self indulgent wank. Honestly, adults playing Pokemon with themselves, embarrassing.

1994girl · 29/09/2022 08:31

I think it's a load of absolute bollocks. If you have a dick you're male and vice versa.

KvotheTheBloodless · 29/09/2022 08:32

FFS. I'm happy to use preferred pronouns where a transwoman wants to be called "she", or a transman wants to be called "he", but it is absolute bollocks to call a person "they" - self-absorbed, I'm-so-special nonsense. Literally nobody fits completely neatly into society's ideals of masculine or feminine, that doesn't make people into neither a man nor a woman. If we all went by non-binary ideals, every single one of us would be non-binary.

1994girl · 29/09/2022 08:32

ChaToilLeam · 29/09/2022 05:17

Self indulgent, attention seeking nonsense. Even worse are those who claim to be “fluid”’ so they are always changing pronouns simply to continually wrong foot others.

It’s not for anyone to dictate how others refer to them when they are not present. We desperately need some adults in the room instead of pandering to these childish behaviours.

Agreed. This generation is fucked.

MrJi · 29/09/2022 08:35

jeaux90 · 28/09/2022 23:58

Pronouns are bollocks. I mean seriously, who gives a shit about how someone talks about them when they aren't there!

This.

I've said this previously on fwr but if everyone you work with all have different pronouns how will you remember them? I work with 650 other people. I have all on to remember their names.
Plus the people I work with are quite likely to take the piss and change regularly or have a third Tuesday of every second month as a zir/zie pronoun day and very happily report you for every breach.
Add in menopause and well if it were to happen I'd have to quit my job.

And now I'm adding that it wont be long until some truly disgusting pronouns come along (now it's a free for all) you really going to be happy referring to a workmate who isnt there with foul language just so you can be woke?

And finally, it's not when you are addressing that person, it's when you are talking about them that you use pronouns. So how will they even know if you did or didnt correctly pronoun them?

I'm ND and this just sounds like bollocks.

Flugelbinder · 29/09/2022 09:29

Child at my DC (primary) school identifies with both a male and female name and uses it interchangeably, so think Freya/Fred for example.

It’s created a need for an ‘identity education’ discussion with the other children in the class. On the one hand younger children are accepting and tend not to judge but it’s meant some conversations have been had far earlier than many parents would have wanted for their child when they are pre-puberty themselves and just figuring all that out. Perhaps difficult for the parents of the child but it has impacts on everyone else too in unintended ways.

EugeneLevysEyebrow · 29/09/2022 09:36

For something that’s meant to be ‘inclusive’ the idea of made-up pronouns or pronouns that don’t correspond to someone’s visible biological sex seem very exclusionary.

People who speak English as a foreign language, or who have any number of SEN issues for example will struggle. Who gets to decide who’s inclusivity trumps someone else’s inclusivity?

Cosycover · 29/09/2022 09:37

Got an email the other day from Kitten pronouns ze/zhem

Load of shite
Kitten is a dick. Simple as that.
