Jack Monroe off Twitter

beammeuphottie · 28/09/2022 20:28

The latest in the ongoing saga is that JM has left Twitter after being 'hounded off'. The incident that seemed to provoke this...someone critiquing a photo of her mums roast potatoes. It just gets more and more bizarre.

To be clear, I don't like to see public pile ons and some of the abuse directed at Jack has been unpleasant. But a lot has also been reasonable, polite requests for information regarding her patreon which have largely been totally ignored. And her supporters have to be some of the most cruel people on Twitter. It seems like it's fine for JM to voice her opinion but as soon as others do the same they are called out for bullying. And ironically subjected to vile comments from her followers. Go figure.

Am I the only one who thinks she's probably best having a little Twitter break? But eventually if she's ever to redeem her reputation she needs to show some transparency regarding public donations.

Can we see the photo of the potatoes anywhere?

I bet loads of you have 'Be Kind' in your social media profiles as well

Fuck no, I abhor the "be kind" brigade.

What a thoroughly unpleasant thread.

Will you all be happy when she's hospitalised then?

I bet loads of you have 'Be Kind' in your social media profiles as well.

Do you think Jack considers the affect on or wellbeing of the people she sets her followers on?

FangsForTheMemory · 28/09/2022 21:37

What do you expect to achieve by starting yet another thread about Jack, OP?

What is concerning is that she was suicide crumbing before she left Twitter.

She was talking about how people wouldn't stop hounding her till she killed herself and was talking about Caroline Flack and how she was only staying alive to spite the haters. She is someone who clearly has some pretty serious mental health issues, including previous self harm and suicide attempts. I hope somebody offline is taking care of her and when she rejoins Twitter she can use it in a more healthy way.

She's been posting on Instagram since.

I think she's helped perpetuate the myth that people can survive easily enough on a £20/week food budget. And i think she's definitely addicted to the endorphin rush of tens of thousands of followers telling her she's amazing.

Lastly, the roast potatoes look okay to me but the Yorkshire puds are unrecognisable as Yorkies. They look like pasty cases.

Againstmachine · 28/09/2022 21:44

I'd really take everything she says with a pinch of salt, she's been posting on Instagram as it's easier to control who and what people can say.

This is a manipulative and nasty comment. "Look what you made me do." / "You'll be sorry when..." is what narcs and abusers say.

People asking for evidence of claims and asking for transparency on donations is not bullying.

And no, I have "Fuck Kind, Raise Hell" on my social media.

Tbh the nastiest people I have seen on SM, even here on MN, often have that in their bio or are on here telling people they don't agree with how unkind they are while calling them names and/or accusing them of deep character flaws for fairly innocuous comments or opinions. I see it over and over.

No I wouldn’t be happy if she was hospitalised. I’d be happy if she stopped conning people (many as vulnerable as her) out of money though. And stopped instigating pile ons of vulnerable people on Twitter. I don’t wish her harm, I just wish she’d stop poverty cosplaying for cash.

She went straight from Twitter to Instagram so I think she’s ok.

Not trying to achieve anything. Must there be an ulterior motive? It's a discussion about a topical event regarding someone very much in the public eye. I haven't seen any other recent threads, my apologies I don't spend my life on MN.

Be kind is such bullshit. Yes to an extent the world would be a better place if we were kinder and more respectful to one another. But being kind doesn't mean turning a blind eye to shitty behaviour and never challenging it for fear of being 'nasty'. Was JM kind when she took money from those poorer than her based on untruths? Was she kind when she set her followers on a disabled man? Is she kind when she initiates pile ons and slags off other chefs?

Read Awfully Mollys blog if you haven't already. There are no foul mouthed rants or unkindness there, just facts presented in a fair and rational way. I think it's natural for people to want to discuss this sort of stuff. It's quite important.

Those Yorkshires look horrendous but the roast potatoes are ok.

JanieAllen · 28/09/2022 21:58

she's scamming at least £2000 a month on patreon while claiming to be poor.... came to Edinburgh a few weeks after a nonsense post about making shower jel out of soap... and selling stuff... Edinburgh is incredibly expensive to visit I know that I live here... she just exudes... bollocks

catinboots123 · 28/09/2022 22:00

Someone on Twitter said those Yorkshire's looked like they'd been cooked under a heated argument GrinGrinGrin

BrightYellowDaffodil · 28/09/2022 22:10

The potatoes look dry and undercooked and the Yorkshire puddings look woefully undercooked - they should be darker and far puffier. They look like only-just-cooked pie cases. If you want a good Yorkshire recipe, Google Felicity Cloake’s “perfect” series!

As for Jack, it’s probably best for everyone - including her - that she’s off Twitter. And no, I don’t have “be kind” on my social media, nor do I endorse it because it’s almost always used by bullies who don’t want to be found out, or those who want those saying what they don’t want to hear to be silenced.

Againstmachine · 28/09/2022 22:13

Bekind is just used as a way if shutting down any questioning, I consider anyone who uses it to be a joke.

She is 100% a Narc, anyone who’s ever experienced one should be able to spot it a mile off with her.

How can you ask a question about how it works then say she’s been unethical?

I need to see the roast potatoes first before I comment. A good roast rises or falls on it's roast spuds.

Well, I think it's possible to have an opinion without knowing the full ins and outs of how Patreon works.

Eg. If I promised people I would send them postcards once a month as a reward for their support, if I didn't fulfil my side of it, and they did, it would be unethical of me to keep taking their money. The format or set-up of the platform I used to make the agreement would have no bearing on how unethical it was.
