To feel uncomfortable using this Hotel toilet?

N1C · 27/09/2022 23:07

Staying 7 nights with DH in a 4 star hotel in Mallorca, Spain. We may be married but I don't feel comfortable with doing my business in this toilet while he is in the room. There is a gap on every side of the door and it does not close completely.

Is this a standard setup in hotels in Spain or do you think I'm not being unreasonable and it's very odd?

See photo attached.

Fairly sure your DH won't be staring through the crack in the door trying to watch you pee.

frecklemcspeckles · 27/09/2022 23:09

Ffs op really? You're married and you can't go to the bathroom. I have ibd, now that's a problem and my partner is amazing. Honestly, I can't see the issue.

thaegumathteth · 27/09/2022 23:09

How have you got as far as being married whilst being so concerned about things like this?

Hellocatshome · 27/09/2022 23:10

Yabu you are married for goodness sake. I'm.sure he won't spy on you having a wee.

chatterbug22 · 27/09/2022 23:10

Yeah also don’t see the issue, sorry. Maybe we are less usual but neither of us cares if the door is open, sure they won’t be watching

frecklemcspeckles · 27/09/2022 23:10

And to follow up.. If neither one can cope with the other hearing noises from the bathroom you have issues!!

Gawdimold · 27/09/2022 23:11

Put tv on before you go

Hugasauras · 27/09/2022 23:13

Do you think he's going to have his eye crammed against the gap to watch you having a shite?

negomi90 · 27/09/2022 23:13

That's way better than most public loo stalls.

FatPatsCat · 27/09/2022 23:14

I was the same as you during my marriage OP - never even passed wind in front of him!

I used to use the toilets in the reception area if that's an option 😂

Fully aware I'll have the piss taken out of me but oh well!

KnickerlessParsons · 27/09/2022 23:15

You could always fill the gaps with toilet paper but actually YABU.

FlissyPaps · 27/09/2022 23:18

I’ve seen loads of similar doors like that in hotels abroad.

you could ask him to go on the balcony or leave the room whilst you do your business?

Taking the piss out of you would surely help those issues.

MarmiteCoriander · 27/09/2022 23:23

At least there is a door and wall there OP! We stayed at a place in Thailand. It was a suite, with a spa bath in the room, but all open plan. The bathroom was part of the main room- no walls and only a partial curtain one 1 side of the toilet! 😆

TBH- I find it odd that married couples feel unable to fart, burp and wee in ear shot of each other!

If its such an issue, can you attach a towel to a clothes hanger, and hook it at the top so it blocks the gap?

Funnily enough I typed it out differently (pre-empting this type of predictable comment) and then thought 'ahh fuck it, let them think they're witty'

user1471517900 · 27/09/2022 23:27

At least urine good spirits about it

urgen · 27/09/2022 23:27

Fat pats. I am like that too…

EmmaH2022 · 27/09/2022 23:29

With you, OP.

RunnyPaint · 27/09/2022 23:30

I genuinely thought you were in a Premier Inn in Stoke that has frosted glass swing doors for the bathrooms... Personally, I think YANBU, but it seems others disagree with our sensitivities. Good luck, OP!

Somethingneedstochange · 27/09/2022 23:31

I thought you ment the toilets for all hotel guests. Don't go to the US that's what all public toilets are like. Can literally make eye contact with someone on the throne. Plus there's a huge gap at the bottom of the doors.

Oh, my parents had that experience! They weren't impressed. 60 years together, 50 years married.

Longdistance · 27/09/2022 23:32

If you need to go for a tom tit, send your dh to the bar.

Appreciate your honesty. For me passing wind is fine but I have a bowel condition which I'm really self-conscious about. I found it odd that others would think I am most concerned about DH peering through the gaps or watching me peeGrin

It's more about the sounds and smells rather than the sights that make me feel uncomfortable.

Unfortunately not as there are gaps on all sides of the door but thanks for your kind suggestion.

I'm with you op. So many hotel bathrooms like this. DP and I give each other privacy by leaving the room or putting headphones on!!
