Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby

I can't find a thread on this. I don't watch them and I'm not particularly a fan, I find Schofield a bit smarmy. But I'm baffled by the tabloid hate at the moment.

I've obviously clicked on something about them because my timeline has now shown multiple articles from the Mail and Express on the campaign for them to resign because of their Royal Funeral queue jumping.

My understanding - and I didn't follow the funeral obsessively so may be wrong - is that there were two public queues, a queue for those with disabilities, and a VIP queue. David Beckham apparently achieved sainthood by using the public queue. But surely many, many other celebrities and dignitaries used the 4th queue?

So why have Schofield and Willoughby been signalled out? And why is the campaign still going a week after the actual funeral?

It just makes no sense to me. Anyone got any theories?

YANBU They didn't do anything different to many other VIPs.

YABU They behaved disgracefully and should be sacked.

Yes and Holly retains her contract with M&S. I wondered if that might create some tension between them, but I get a sense she is bound to him now.

Has she? I thought they were letting her go. £1.5 million that’s worth to her.

ArcaneWireless · 08/10/2022 21:25

The golden one autumn

I get the feeling that although barbie is probably not far off the mark re the smiling assassin, there will always be two of them at it - poking away.

I don’t get the warm and fuzzies from either of them.

Autumnbutstillhot · 08/10/2022 21:34

But I always wonder if he’s got info on Holly too, surely she’d break away from him?!
All his old stuff we he tried to keep a lid on seems to be resurfacing now for some reason.

Autumnbutstillhot · 08/10/2022 21:35

*That he tried

Inkanta · 08/10/2022 21:36

Yes I read M&S had extended a 7 figure contract with Holly for 2 more years. That might irk Phil if he's losing his sponsors.

Autumnbutstillhot · 08/10/2022 22:06

@Inkanta Strange that he’s losing deals and she’s not, if it was all about the queue thing

AutumnalCosyness · 08/10/2022 22:32

Surely his wife knew he was gay?
I think he's horrible.
But I don't see the problem with Holly. She seems sweet. Imo.

limitededitionbarbie · 08/10/2022 21:11

I don't feel one way or the other about Holly. I think she's been a golden girl for so long sone people are happy she's now been dragged into this.

Phil gives me a bit of a sinister vibe. All good if your on his right side. Not so well if your not. I think he'd smile at you whilst stabbing you on the back.

Holly I just think she seems nice. A bit too nice but I think it's that she is genuinely that nice.

Agree totally.

limitededitionbarbie · 08/10/2022 22:39

@Autumnbutstillhot

She must have. Your not with someone for that long for them not to know something is missing/up.

I guess they maybe haven't been ripping each other's clothes off for a good while. She's prob had her suspicions even if she's never voiced them. Maybe at first just thought that they were both just in that stage where it's more companionship than anything else. Who knows?

I personally think she's done what a lot of people would have done. Accepted it, weighed up what she thinks the upshot of it all would be to come out and how it would affect her children and decided to say nothing, leave things as they are and just continue as is, nothing lost nothing gained. Not perfect but not unpleasant either.

StoneofDestiny · 08/10/2022 22:43

Never watch this pair, but seen the 'queue-gate' headlines - but people on here seem to know a lot about the goings on inside ITV - is this just guesswork, or fact?

MarshaMelrose · 08/10/2022 22:44

I don't know why any of the press had special access. They could see all that was necessary from the cameras. However, I'm not sure they did anything wrong. But as I loathe the pair of them, I'm happy to support any petition that causes them to sacked for any reason whatsoever. Where do I sign?

Farmageddon · 08/10/2022 20:47

I read something recently about Phil being represented by an agency who also have loads of other celebs on their books - but they have this shady system whereby if a newspaper prints a bad article about one of their acts, they are then barred from any access to the rest of them, so it's a like a cartel.

Which is apparently why he has such clout, and why Holly has gotten more bad press than him. They are basically deflecting the shitty press coverage onto her.

I wonder how you get on their books and why holly isn’t on them. Women are often scapegoats. Are a high proportion of those on the books male?

lollipoprainbow · 08/10/2022 23:19

Why are so many people taken in by hollys sweet act?? I've read so many threads where she's not all she seems.

Absolutely this^

avamiah · 09/10/2022 00:39

I personally find the pair very annoying.

I won’t even watch the new series of Dancing On Ice because they are so in love with themselves and think the show is about them when it isn’t and I have no idea why the producers cannot see this and replace them with new presenters.

This is my opinion and I understand not everyone will agree with me.

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 09/10/2022 00:42

I read somewhere that the reason Philip did those awful We Buy Any Car adverts is because he was pissed that Holly was earning so much more than him in sponsorship and wanted a slice of the pie. If that's true then he's going to be especially pissed off that he's lost his ad contract while hers has been renewed. Did anyone else see the reported side eye she gave him this week when he interrupted her? I think there is trouble brewing.

Callaghan777 · 09/10/2022 08:40

Can someone explain what talents either of this dynamic duo possess. They both earn a fortune for basically just existing. I am sick of 'celebrities' who just seen to have been lucky. They have achieved nothing by way of talent. I cannot watch them either even on Come Dancing. They make me cringe. Glad I am not the only one.

lollipoprainbow · 09/10/2022 08:52

@Callaghan777 they both got very lucky on zero talent. I guess it's not what you know it's who you know. I'd love to see their smug faces when their bubbles burst.

lollipoprainbow · 09/10/2022 08:53

@RosalindsAFuckingNightmare I saw the side eye but then the next day they were back to laughing and joking.

lollipoprainbow · 09/10/2022 08:55

@avamiah can't stand dancing in ice mainly because they present it and the papers always report on what princess holly is wearing (usually some sort of ballgown) thus making the show all about them.

Smileeriley · 09/10/2022 08:56

I can't understand it myself, they jumped a queue, so what.

Callaghan777 · 09/10/2022 09:05

The queue is really nothing about it. I find people who do nothing and earn a fortune obscene. I have always felt that. The queue is irrelevant but has angered some.

Smileeriley · 09/10/2022 08:56

I think it’s because the show that they present pushes them as ‘just like you guys’ to the This Morning audience. The style of interview questions, the relentless (fake) ‘outtake’ reels of them pretending to ‘corpse’ (as in laugh when they’re not supposed to). Their whole public image is sold as ‘these guys are just like you guys’ and that all fell down quickly when it became clear that of course they don’t see themselves as being anything remotely like jobbing members of the queuing public. There’s the further side to it that they must have thought they were beloved enough to get away with it. It’s all about hierarchy though - essentially by jumping the queue they were trying to continue to occupy the ‘beloved by the British public’ space which at that point was being firmly occupied by the dead monarch.

I don’t think it’s any bad thing that it has all happened though. ‘Smiling assassin’ is a good way to describe it I think. I think there’s a whiff of psychopathy to him in particular.

I think it’s some kind of weird collective British psychological deflection thing. We’re powerless to stop the Tories taking the country to the cleaners for the benefit of a tiny financial elite, so instead the tabloids (yeah, the same ones which tell everyone to vote Tory) encourage people to deflect their pent up impotent rage onto random celebs like Meghan Markle and Holly Willoughby.
