Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby

I can't find a thread on this. I don't watch them and I'm not particularly a fan, I find Schofield a bit smarmy. But I'm baffled by the tabloid hate at the moment.

I've obviously clicked on something about them because my timeline has now shown multiple articles from the Mail and Express on the campaign for them to resign because of their Royal Funeral queue jumping.

My understanding - and I didn't follow the funeral obsessively so may be wrong - is that there were two public queues, a queue for those with disabilities, and a VIP queue. David Beckham apparently achieved sainthood by using the public queue. But surely many, many other celebrities and dignitaries used the 4th queue?

So why have Schofield and Willoughby been signalled out? And why is the campaign still going a week after the actual funeral?

It just makes no sense to me. Anyone got any theories?

YANBU They didn't do anything different to many other VIPs.

YABU They behaved disgracefully and should be sacked.

Yeah, you’re right, David Beckham and Susanna Reid can’t have been the only famous people to queue. And these two can’t have been the only ones to jump the queue (their ‘it was work’ excuse was bullshit - they weren’t on the press list). But people, including viewers are sick to death of both of them for varying reasons. They just inadvertently provided the catalyst for the groundswell of opinion against them. They just be kicking themselves.

WaveyHair · 26/09/2022 11:53

They clearly jumped the queue- no way would Holly stand in line in those spiky heels for 13 hours. And if they did queue jump they should just admit it.

I suspect after seeing the positive press David Beckham got they wanted to tap into that.

And yes I don't consider Phil to be particularly brave, it is his wife who gets my sympathy.

Why does his wife get sympathy? She was in on it all along. God knows the lies she has weaved to cover his back.

LondonJax · 26/09/2022 12:18

The only reason I have a problem with what they did was that, journalists or not (and I think you're pushing it calling Phil and Holly 'journalists') the show they did it for was broadcast on Tuesday. The day after the funeral, two days after the lying in state stopped and multiple days after so many other journalists had done interviews outside the Hall. Including Alice Beer who did a piece for ....This Morning!

A total 'non news item' but a great cover if you want to slip into the Hall and have an excuse.

They could have walked the line, they could have done a 'what it's like to queue' or, preferably, they could have left it alone. After all they didn't offer to come in on their day off (Fridays) to do a piece that was current - just one after the whole thing had finished. Bad journalism (if you can call it that).

blockpavingismynightmare · 26/09/2022 12:31

Is it just me or is this thread moving a little too fast down the page?

Is that you Phil ?
Holly's husband??
The KGB even???

Georgeskitchen · 26/09/2022 12:52

Does anyone else wonder how all this would have panned out if he had been grooming young women rather than young men?
would he have been described as "stunning and brave"?
Would people have been labelled homophobic if they had said what they really thought rather than fawning over him as if he had saved a class of children from a burning school?

Canoewoman · 26/09/2022 12:58

’Huge whiff of Saville’ That’s the best description of Schofield I’ve heard!

DontSpeakLatinInFrontOfTheBooks · 26/09/2022 13:01

I’m assuming they’ve pissed off someone or maybe several someone’s in the past regarding other matters, and this incident is being used against them as it’s low hanging fruit.

I've heard rumours about PS’s shady behaviour (no idea how true that is) but even without shady goings on, just being a dick to others isn’t going to warm yourself to them and apparently both HW and PS have form for being dickheads.

ferneytorro · 26/09/2022 13:04

Did you see the nightclub that was saying they'd let you go to the front of the queen this weekend if you were called Phil or Holly!

ferneytorro · 26/09/2022 13:04

Queen - I meant queue although autocorrect must know what i was typing about!!

lollipoprainbow · 26/09/2022 13:09

Because they completely lowered the tone being there and calling themselves journalists when they front (badly) a crap magazine show. The smugness oozes out of their every pore. For some bizarre reason they are seen as the darlings of itv and are protected at every turn. It's disgraceful.

"BishyBarnyBee … you didn’t really look very hard, perhaps because you wanted your own special thread to yourself"

Good to see the milk of human kindness is flowing on mumsnet in the usual way.

I didn't find anything because I searched for their full names, not Holly and Phil. Perhaps because I'm not a fan, or maybe don't watch enough daytime TV or read celebrity magazines, it didn't occur to me to use the shortened name.

But now I have my own shiny thread and my mumsnet ambitions are fulfilled. Thanks SavoirFlair.

This!!

They definitely just didn't want to queue with the proletariat for hours!

Canoewoman · 26/09/2022 13:13

Autocue!

Canoewoman · 26/09/2022 13:14

Bloody phone! Entertainment

yellowbananasinjuly · 26/09/2022 13:19

I cant get excited about the new recategorised 'crime' of people queue jumping and it is absurd for Holly to claim that she would never ever ever do such an evil thing as queue jumping as if it equates to murder... But they are irritating and Id prefer them to be replaced by Eammon and Ruth full time as long as Eammon promises not to interrupt Ruth in interviews when she is about to find out something interesting !!

whynotwhatknot · 26/09/2022 13:36

no we dont know of any other famous people who got in the vip lines oter than mps

tilda swinton queued db susannareid and other tv and film personalities all queued in the public line

JacquelineCarlyle · 26/09/2022 14:01

Kelly Holmes also queued in the regular line. She spoke about it on Loose Women and about the friends she made, as well as doing things such as getting those in the queue around her to do press ups etc to keep people's spirits up.

thatrodofyoursisinsane · 26/09/2022 14:07

Most bizarre thing ever. Even more bizarre than queuing up for days to look at a box.

Snoozer11 · 26/09/2022 14:57

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 26/09/2022 11:40

So what's the issue with Holly?

It's like the 1950's here....the man is in the wrong so drag the little woman down too

Because Holly is the only colleague who has stood with him. Fern, Amanda, Ruth, Eamonn, Rylan, Dr Ranj and others have dropped him and distanced themselves.

And, because she was in the queue in front of him, albeit trying to hide behind a mask.

There are plenty of people behind the scenes who have a problem with Holly, and then there's the strange headlines surrounding her - remember her reporting her car stolen?

Yesnoormaybe · 26/09/2022 15:08

WaveyHair · 26/09/2022 11:53

I thought exactly the same when I saw her heels. No way did they expect to queue and they also allegedly pushed aside a disabled person to jump the queue

Sunnyqueen · 26/09/2022 15:14

Because everyone already hated them before they queue jumped. That's why it's dragged on, I think the public are just looking for any reason to get them axxed. And I completely agree tbh, many many celebs I could have forgiven but not those two 😂

Explaintome · 26/09/2022 15:24

Yes, I've wondered who else used the celebrity queue. MPs for a start.

I can't feel too sorry for them. IMO Schofield should have been "hounded" off the screens years ago, but it's odd that this is somehow worse than the rest.

holidaynightmare · 26/09/2022 16:09

The que situation is ridiculous
But that aside they are terrible presenters who both need getting rid of anyway it's dated and I don't know who it would appeal too

BeggyMitchell · 27/09/2022 12:42
