Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby

I can't find a thread on this. I don't watch them and I'm not particularly a fan, I find Schofield a bit smarmy. But I'm baffled by the tabloid hate at the moment.

I've obviously clicked on something about them because my timeline has now shown multiple articles from the Mail and Express on the campaign for them to resign because of their Royal Funeral queue jumping.

My understanding - and I didn't follow the funeral obsessively so may be wrong - is that there were two public queues, a queue for those with disabilities, and a VIP queue. David Beckham apparently achieved sainthood by using the public queue. But surely many, many other celebrities and dignitaries used the 4th queue?

So why have Schofield and Willoughby been signalled out? And why is the campaign still going a week after the actual funeral?

It just makes no sense to me. Anyone got any theories?

YANBU They didn't do anything different to many other VIPs.

YABU They behaved disgracefully and should be sacked.

Why does his wife get sympathy? She was in on it all along. God knows the lies she has weaved to cover his back.

Yep, they had a ‘lavender marriage’. The only revelation to her may have been the age of the person PS was seeing back in 2019…😏

ArcaneWireless · 27/09/2022 20:18

I can’t feel terribly sorry for them.

They appear to have done a few people over from their lofty perch over the years. Stunning and brave is bad enough but add smug and snarky in the mix and it isn’t a surprise that folk aren’t willing to piss on their fire just yet.

If at all.

It is a bit of a surprise to find aren’t as untouchable as they’ve been. It is also a surprise that the whiff is just never being addressed.

Schofield started an affair with a boy he had known since he was 10, a few days after he came of age, allegedly.

He regular Snapchats teenage boys in the early hours of the morning, and gives teenagers he fancies jobs on This Morning.

He keeps getting away with it and people are sick of it. They're disgusted.

Look at all the people who've worked with him in the past who have deep problems with him and his behaviour.

He's more than "a bit smarmy".

That doesn’t explain this though. No one is really mentioning any of that. Just The Queue.

imo the whole thing is fucking ludicrous. I think Schofield is a creep, but this witch hunt over a queue is utter stupidity.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 27/09/2022 20:28

I don't get the journalist/media exception - wasn't there already a camera 24/7?

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 27/09/2022 20:29

The fact that this thread is staying up and that pp have not been deleted says volumes.

custardbear · 27/09/2022 20:32

I'm not following them and I wasn't ever going to queue to see the queen.
I can only assume people don't like the fact that the nation are in mourning, people are happy to queue to pay their respects to their beloved monarch - these two clowns come along and make a
Mockery of queueing, the general public by jumping in and being a bit 'do you KNOW who I am...' esque, then I believe they spin some crappy story to make excuses - I don't really like political 'spin doctering' but think this started before the budget debarcle ... maybe I'm wrong.
As for them, don't really care, they're part of the usual 'sleb' shit culture where they think they're better than Joe public ..... respectful would be to queue and wait your turn, jumping the queue is disrespectful to everyone

ForestofD · 27/09/2022 21:01

There was a comedian chap on GB News a couple of nights ago saying that Phillip Schofield made a pass at him years ago. Can't remember his name.

It was JayJay from Cocomelon

I see the woman who started the petition is rather regretting it now. I have no interest in 'This Morning' or H & P, but it seems to me that most who were kicking up a fuss didn't understand how media accreditation works.
They weren't the only ones with press passes there. ITV should have made it clearer they were there with media accreditation to report for the programme before they went , but I guess they didn't think it needed explaining.

latetothefisting · 03/10/2022 13:24

There weren't 4 queues.
There was the main queue for the public
There was a second queue for members of the public with disabilities.

MPs could attend and bring up to 4 people but that's not the same as a VIP queue e.g. David Beckham couldn't have just rocked up to it if he'd wanted to!

Finally members of the press couldn't do the file past but were allowed access the room with an appropriate application if needed for their work. This is what it appears h&p did. Technically they were within their rights to do so as they are (losely) members of the press...however there is dispute about whether they applied properly or just took someone else's spaces and if they actually needed to go for work purposes or just went for a bit of a nosey!

It is strange that none of the other TV presenters or news hosts apparently needed to attend the scene in person to be able to report on it which is why people are querying why they apparently needed to!

I actually don't think what they did warranted the hate they are getting but find them deeply annoying in many other ways so if this is the thing that gets them out, fair enough!

RustySprings · 03/10/2022 14:36

They were there for filming for This Morning according to the programme's statement, so ITV/ TM would have had to apply, and H&P would have been cleared to do so by someone. (The Royal press office I guess.)

I agree - whether they actually needed to is a whole other argument!

They'll be on TM as long as the programme still gets the ratings. But they do seem like Marmite at the moment. I don't think they warranted the level of hysterical screaming either - there are far worse things to scream about. ( Like the state of the country !)

Callaghan777 · 08/10/2022 15:15

I never liked them but then they did this spin the wheel competition where someone won money for fuel! So patronising I just switched off. Like he understands how ordinary people live. He is on nearly every advert I see making stupid amounts of money. They are both yuck in my opinion

dayswithaY · 08/10/2022 15:28

Well he’s lost his lucrative advertising contract with We Buy Any Car so some of the shine is coming off.

Holly should bail out now, but she made the odd choice to be his real life BFF rather than just a colleague, so she may have made her bed.

Inkanta · 08/10/2022 15:57

Yes and Holly retains her contract with M&S. I wondered if that might create some tension between them, but I get a sense she is bound to him now.

"BishyBarnyBee … you didn’t really look very hard, perhaps because you wanted your own special thread to yourself"

Good to see the milk of human kindness is flowing on mumsnet in the usual way.

I didn't find anything because I searched for their full names, not Holly and Phil. Perhaps because I'm not a fan, or maybe don't watch enough daytime TV or read celebrity magazines, it didn't occur to me to use the shortened name.

But now I have my own shiny thread and my mumsnet ambitions are fulfilled. Thanks SavoirFlair.

I know. You must be feeling like a very lucky big girl to have your "own special thread" Grin

YourTruthorMine · 08/10/2022 20:36

People have had enough of seedy celebrities that take out Super Injunctions and pay thousands each week to PR agencies to protect their image. the queue jump story has tipped us over the edge as far as this scum bag is concerned

Farmageddon · 08/10/2022 20:47

I read something recently about Phil being represented by an agency who also have loads of other celebs on their books - but they have this shady system whereby if a newspaper prints a bad article about one of their acts, they are then barred from any access to the rest of them, so it's a like a cartel.

Which is apparently why he has such clout, and why Holly has gotten more bad press than him. They are basically deflecting the shitty press coverage onto her.

RootinandTootin · 08/10/2022 21:01

I feel like the hate really stems from the fact schofield had an affair with a show runner half his age, who he had known since he was a child. Then he got a super injunction so I feel like the press is hounding him. Unfortunately Holly is just collateral damage.

grayhairdontcare · 08/10/2022 21:06

Grooming being covered up by a super injunction means Holly is collateral damage

Autumnbutstillhot · 08/10/2022 21:07

I think Phil obviously has crap on people higher up in itv…there’s no way he’d be kept on this long for all the things he’s done. Maybe he has a hold on Holly too as it’s bizarre she’s still standing by him

ArcaneWireless · 08/10/2022 21:10

Unfortunately those now also in the firing line kept their powder very dry and held their fire when they could have let rip.

Bet it doesn’t feel quite so stunning now it is time to put on a brave face.

limitededitionbarbie · 08/10/2022 21:11

I don't feel one way or the other about Holly. I think she's been a golden girl for so long sone people are happy she's now been dragged into this.

Phil gives me a bit of a sinister vibe. All good if your on his right side. Not so well if your not. I think he'd smile at you whilst stabbing you on the back.

Holly I just think she seems nice. A bit too nice but I think it's that she is genuinely that nice.

Autumnbutstillhot · 08/10/2022 21:15

@ArcaneWireless Who else is in the firing line?

Lampzade · 08/10/2022 21:16

Holly is probably pissed off with Phil.
All his dodgy behaviour has left her in the firing line.
She needs to realise that there are some people who don’t deserve loyalty.
