Guys who slide into DM's

madasacatter · 24/09/2022 21:21

I had a guy slide into my DM's twice and whilst this isn't the first guy to or even that bad in what he said, something about this one irked me and I feel like as it's obvious from his profile that he has a long-term partner/wife that I should send a screenshot to her.

YABU - It's none of my business, don't send anything
YANBU - Send her a screenshot, she deserves to know about his behaviour

Damn I’m working on breaking my DMs in…. The men who slide into them sound like they have some tips…..

GoldenSpiral · 24/09/2022 21:40

Oh, this is funny. I'm surprised that so many people haven't heard this phrase!

I wouldn't get involved OP. If you don't know either of them it really isn't worth it. I would inform a friend, but that feels different somehow.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 24/09/2022 21:40

Why can’t people just say ‘sent me a message’. ‘Slide into my DMs’ is annoying AF

BatshitBanshee · 24/09/2022 21:42

I'd have no qualms about sending it to his partner. None whatsoever. Serves a cheating creep right.

Poppins2016 · 24/09/2022 21:42

From dictionary.com: "To slide into the DMs is online slang for sending someone a direct message on social media slickly and coolly, often for romantic purposes."

BigFatLiar · 24/09/2022 21:42

I thought they were going to visit her dear mother.

It’s a message, ffs. Cheating involves a bit more than that.

Garlicpotatoes · 24/09/2022 21:46

Thought he was sliding into your darling mother 😳

cherrysthename · 24/09/2022 21:48

I just block the chancing fuckers

SocksAndTheCity · 24/09/2022 21:48

Thanks for that @LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet and @Poppins2016

I now have both a (slightly) better idea of what the thread is about, and an assurance that I'm doing the right thing by not using any of these sites 😁

lannistunut · 24/09/2022 21:50

No, I would just block and leave it. It is the equivalent of someone saying something flirtatious in the old days, and I wouldn't have said anything about that (other than 'fuck off' to the person doing it).

mumof1or2 · 24/09/2022 21:51

Can't believe how many people on here have never heard the expression "sliding into DMs" 😂.

I think we need a rough idea of what the message said before we can advise on whether or not to send the screenshot..

Nightsaredrawinginnow · 24/09/2022 21:54

I’m feeling quite young at 44 knowing this 🤣

Reiningitin · 24/09/2022 22:05

Personally I think this should go to classics. Some of the comments are hilarious especially @Garlicpotatoes

J0y · 24/09/2022 22:06

I'm 52 and I know what it means. Surprised people are so baffled by it.

DoubleBuggyDriver · 24/09/2022 22:10

The comments are so embarrassing😂

santorinii · 24/09/2022 21:32

Lol OP didn’t create this. It’s been a popular phrase for years, you can surely research the answer to your questions yourself

Or they could use standard English not 'Instagram speak' (or wherever it's from).

This is Mumsnet, not 'teen speak'.

If I wanted to be 'down with the kids' I'd engage with the 'yoof' cluttering up the house.

DickDarstedly · 24/09/2022 21:25

What does ‘slide into my DMs’ mean? I guess you mean direct messages but where are they sliding into them from and why ‘sliding’. Sorry just can’t follow you.

It's a really common phrase. You must be 70+ or living on the moon not to have heard of it!

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 24/09/2022 22:14

Edinvillian · 24/09/2022 21:34

I'm feeling quite young as I knew what it meant 😂😂

@Edinvillian enjoy it while you can!!

the transformation happens overnight while you toss & turn, boiling like a vat of jam!

From dictionary.com: "To slide into the DMs is online slang for sending someone a direct message on social media slickly and coolly, often for romantic purposes."

This was true (and slightly creepy) around 2015-2016 or so, but now it's full-on ick. If the "guy" actually said he was sliding into OP's DMs (I know it sounds stupid, but clueless people really do) then I would run like hell.

Edinvillian · 24/09/2022 22:16

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination not too far away from that, I'll be the only one in this house not minding not having the heating on this year 😂

Edinvillian · 24/09/2022 22:17

Loving the boot ads all over this post, not quite DM's though 😂

No, nowhere near. Thats my mums generation.

just don't pray about on insta/TikTok/whatever the latest bollocks is.

No, it really isn't. I'm 49, live and work in the City of London and I have never heard anybody use it before this thread.

RudsyFarmer · 24/09/2022 22:19

Where does one find a DM? Is this an Instagram thing?
