AIBU?
Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?
blueskyeve · 23/09/2022 11:24
My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.
Who is right?
Cwcwbird · 23/09/2022 11:26
Yes I would. I do. None of us are ever ill so whatever germs we transfer clearly they aren't doing any harm.
Poor bloke being in pain after that and being micro managed on how he's allowed to lie on his own bed!
rubyslippers · 23/09/2022 11:26
I think you’re totally unreasonable
he’s in pain and needed to lay down after a wisdom tooth extraction
he’s not been rolling around in mud
PollyAmour · 23/09/2022 11:26
He is.
You are unsympathetic and a bit silly. It's not like he's actually in the bed with his clothes on.
Wilkolampshade · 23/09/2022 11:27
Good grief, really?
Of course he's right.
I honestly think MN is some kind of parallel universe sometimes.
Hope your DH has recovered.

On top of the covers, ok unless clothes obviously dirty or you've been somewhere dirty. Under the covers, no outdoor clothes. DD sometimes likes to come home and go into my bed to watch TV for a bit and knows she has to strip off!
Some people are ok with putting suitcases on their bed 😱yeuch
ChessieFL · 23/09/2022 11:28
YABU. Unless clothes are covered in mud or something it wouldn’t even occur to me that there would be a problem lying on the bed wearing them. What do you think is going to happen to your bed?
PepperSprayFirstApologiseLater1 · 23/09/2022 11:28
You sound mad!
I have no idea why you think he is unreasonable. Poor guy.
SocksAndTheCity · 23/09/2022 11:29
On the bed, fine. In it, no.
'Disgusting' seems a bit melodramatic either way; presumably your DP walks around like anybody else and doesn't wriggle along the ground on his belly like a snake?
galacticpixels · 23/09/2022 11:29
It's not something I would regularly do and I prefer not to, but I've certainly done it when feeling really sick.
CaptainMyCaptain · 23/09/2022 11:29
I wouldn't give it a moment's thought unless I had been mucking out horses or something. You are very unreasonable.
WhenISnappedAndFarted · 23/09/2022 11:30
Poor man just needed to lie down.
YABU and very OTT
Whataretheodds · 23/09/2022 11:30
Yeah. Fine on the covers, but i don't like outside clothes under the covers.
It drives me bananas when someone folds back the duvet and places a bag/suitcase on the sheet/underside of the duvet, or even on the top half of the outside. Grim.

Skin will have far more pathogens on it than clothes. That makes no sense at all.
Zingy123 · 23/09/2022 11:30
You're weird. What's wrong with wearing clothes you've been out in?
BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 23/09/2022 11:30
Since I come to no harm from wearing my clothes all day, I'm not sure what difference it makes if they then touch my duvet cover. Why is it worse than them touching my sofa cushions?
pinkappleorpineapple · 23/09/2022 11:30
Is this a reverse? Or are you really so mean as to begrudge him a lie down after a tooth extraction?
It wouldn't bother me in general.
Stickmansmum · 23/09/2022 11:31
Doing it right now!
Unclench OP. Have a think about what is actually going to happen. You’ve been brainwashed about cleanliness and germs etc.
blueskyeve · 23/09/2022 11:31
Guess I'm in the wrong then. I'd better go and apologise to him. Still makes me feel I uncomfortable though 😳
SalviaOfficinalis · 23/09/2022 11:31
YABU.
No shoes on the bed obviously, and if he was a plasterer or his clothes were dirty in some way then they shouldn’t go on the bed.
But just normal clothes, there’s no problem.
cstx89 · 23/09/2022 11:32
If he was a tradesman then yes I would expect a change but not just normal clothes. He might have been more comfortable changing to lounge wear but if ur in pain he probs just wanted to rest.
