AIBU?

Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

Yes I would.

Good grief, even if you normally prefer not to surely in these circumstances you'd let it go?

Personally it never occurred to me not to until I discovered MN. I had no idea it was a thing.

As long as he'd be comfortable I wouldn't care , he's just had teeth extracted for God's sake

Nope. When you see some of the people with poor hygiene out and about sitting in public spaces, and you then sit on the same seats.

Of course he's right. Why is it a problem?
Do you sit on the sofa in clothes you've worn all day? What's the difference? At least bedding gets washed frequently.

Or would you never wear pyjamas on the sofa in case you picked up any of the day muck and transferred it your bed?

No. I hate that

You are not wrong OP. But this is MN, where people openly admit to not washing their hands when using the toilet at home. Their are threads about this.

If I was your DH this would be grounds for divorce.

No. I have a throw that I chuck on the bed if I want to lie down. We don't wear our outdoor shoes in the house either though. I travel a lot on the bus and tube though and the tube in particular is really filthy.

Mumsnet is an alternative universe sometimes. Clothes are “disgusting” after being worn for a couple of hours doing normal everyday things.

My wife hates me doing this and in try not to, certainly not under the sheets, but after a brutal dental trip she’d let it go.

YABU about this and also your use of sat rather than sitting :).

I would definitely lie on the bed in the clothes I've been wearing all day. I'd get under the duvet too if I was feeling cold or unwell. Obviously not if I was muddy or sweaty, but otherwise it wouldn't bother me at all.

The only place I’ve ever heard this is mumsnet; very over the top

I only leave the house in a hazmat suit which I then burn before returning to the house.

You are definitely not being unreasonable. Would gross both me and my husband out, never wear outside clothes on our bed. We sit on the chair if we're feeling too lazy to change.

Sitting on your bed wearing clothes that aren’t freshly laundered pyjamas is not comparable to not washing your hands after using the toilet. 🙄

I can't see anything wrong with what your husband has done. If he was curled up under the covers I would have a slight issue but not as much of an issue that you are making it out to be.

OP, nicely, do you have issues with cleanliness. This is absolutely fine! I wouldn’t think twice about doing this and if my partner gave me a hard time I would be hugely pissed off.

This isn't something that has ever entered my head. I take off shoes, coat, but wouldn't think twice about laying on my bed with my day clothes on!
