Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

Unless he's a mechanic and was working prior to the dentist, you're being daft, but I see you're going to apologise so fair play!

Skin will have far more pathogens on it than clothes. That makes no sense at all.

Skin that's been under clothes all day is not dirtier than the clothes covering it, which have been on bus seats, rubbing against public loos, on the ground (in the case of DC), etc.

littlepeas · 23/09/2022 11:41

I think you might be the only person on the planet who would have a problem with this.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 23/09/2022 11:42

I'm with you on this one OP. But don't forget this is Mumsnet where lots of people don't even bother washing their sheets regularly so a bit of extra muck won't matter to them 🤢.

Magnalux · 23/09/2022 11:42

Omg .. do you change before sitting on the sofa too? what do you think will happen? YABVVU

Chemenger · 23/09/2022 11:42

I even lie with the hair I've had on my head all day on the pillow.

Clearly not as some others on the thread agree with me.

No I’m with you OP 😂 always tell my son off for doing this!

silverclock222 · 23/09/2022 11:43

Eh, yes, just the same as I would sit on my couch with my clothes on?

Nope. When you see some of the people with poor hygiene out and about sitting in public spaces, and you then sit on the same seats.

What do you think will happen if you sit on a seat that someone you consider to have poor hygiene has previously sat on?

Posted then finished reading. You are all bonkers - what on earth do you think will happen to you?

heartbroken22 · 23/09/2022 11:44

YABU do you know how painful tooth extraction are? Especially wisdom teeth? Goodness you could have empathised a bit more.

Norriscolesbag · 23/09/2022 11:44

You reply do need to apologize to him and mean it.
A total lack of empathy for what he had just been though to boot. I can only assume you don’t have much to worry about generally.

JackieCollinsExistentialQuestionTime · 23/09/2022 11:44

Bloody hell. I could not be doing with somebody who had rules about how I could lie on my own bed!

I don’t even understand the posts about lying under the sheets with clothes on. It’s a bed not a chopping board. People do far more debauched things in bed than rolling about with their jeans on. 😅

ShaneTwane · 23/09/2022 11:44

Yabu and absolutely ridiculous and this is coming from someone who is a life long OCD sufferer who loathes the thought of contamination and germs. I lie on the bed in my day clothes i have been out in because i have not been rolling in shit or cartwheeling down an ebola ward.

My stepchildrens mother is like you and stepchilds never allowed to be dirty or wear outside clothes inside and everything is scrubbed multiple times a day and guess what? Before he came to us full time he constantly was sick with chest infections, viruses, every sickness bug going because her house is too sterile. ( And i live in a clean house not a sterile one).

muchprefersummer · 23/09/2022 11:44

That's absolutely fine to be laying on the bed in clean clothes. I'd understand if he were a tradesmen in dirty clothes. Normal rule in the house is laying on the bed id fine. Undress to be in bed - I don't know why but that's how we've both always been. That said, if my poor DH had just come back from dentist and wasn't feeling well and got in bed - I wouldn't bat and eyelid.
I'm guessing you don't sit on the sofa in your pjs due to potential cross contamination?

LongLivedQueen · 23/09/2022 11:44

He is. You're bonkers

How horrible of you to call him disgusting because you have insane notions of hygiene.

Floweryflora · 23/09/2022 11:46

Is there a back story? Do you have a form of germ phobia?

Jackiebrambles · 23/09/2022 11:46

What? You are mad. I always lie on top of my bed in clothes. If I want a quick rest or a read.

Rockingcloggs · 23/09/2022 11:46

I honestly can't believe some of the things people get wound up about on Mumsnet! I must be the most laid back woman in the world.

No, your husband is not unreasonable for reclining on his own bed, in his own house whether he's dressed, undressed or wearing a crotch less body stocking and it is weird to have a problem with him doing so.

heartbroken22 · 23/09/2022 11:46

Do you change your bedsheets every time you have sex?

deedledeedledum · 23/09/2022 11:46

Are you yucked out by many things OP? I'm really not very easily yucked out. Very little bothers me.

User0610134057 · 23/09/2022 11:46

I think the most germaphobic people often end up in a cycle of fearing illnesses whilst making themselves more likely to be ill by their avoidance of all pathogens.
