Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

You are being absurd

user478965227857 · 23/09/2022 12:10

Nope. I wouldn't lie or sit inside my house with any clothes that had been worn outside.

HairyMothballs · 23/09/2022 12:10

YABVU. If clothes have been worn all day but aren't dirty, of course it's acceptable to lie on the bed in them. Your poor husband.

TheKeatingFive · 23/09/2022 12:10

All the pps that say its fine are people who also walk around their house with their shoes on

I am fine with both. Never ill. Not sure what I should be concerned about here tbh.

ReneBumsWombats · 23/09/2022 12:10

It's "disgusting" to go for a lie down after the dentist without changing your clothes?

I want to ask you something here but it'll get deleted if I do because, in fairness, it would be very rude. But in my mind, I'm wondering it very very much.

PolarPolly27 · 23/09/2022 12:07

The point is that they don't clean them regularly, I assume.

You don't know how often someone cleans their floors based on whether or not people wear shoes in the house.

It's a stupid thing to worry about unless you have tiny children who are licking the floor. It's not going to make anyone ill.

Flyingwithoutwing · 23/09/2022 12:11

Does he work at a sewage works? Does he fit fish for a living? If not, you have totally and utterly lost your mind. Seek help OP!

Xmasbaby11 · 23/09/2022 12:11

YABU. Dh and I have normal office jobs, often wfh, so we are not excessively dirty, and wouldn't usually get changed when we got home. Wouldn't occur to me that a bed was any different to another piece of furniture. Would you have completely different indoor and outdoor clothes?

These things are known to be dirty, hence washing/changing cloths regularly and washing hands after handling money. And not rubbing coins around on the bedsheets. I’m not sure what your point is.

My points are twofold: that our own skin is covered in pathogens naturally all the time. And that we touch things endlessly all day that carry more pathogens than our clothes without washing our hands between each touch.

Thedungeondragon · 23/09/2022 12:14

I'd love to know what you thought would happen due to clothing making contact with the bed OP? OK I get that there will be germs on the clothing, which may transfer to the bed, but unless you are licking your bedding, why would that matter?

Blackmetalmama · 23/09/2022 12:14

You were absolutely right. Disgusting to lie in or on the bed with clothes on that he had been out in. Sat in a dentist chair where so many other people will sit throughout the day, never mind the saliva and bloodĺ. Ew. How difficult is it to just remove those clothes and then lie down- not at all difficult. And the people who see no harm in it are gross!

How many times a day do you get changed?

ladygindiva · 23/09/2022 12:14

HelloAvocado · 23/09/2022 11:36

I only leave the house in a hazmat suit which I then burn before returning to the house.

🤣

katenutzs · 23/09/2022 12:14

YABU and you should know that

Cwcwbird · 23/09/2022 12:15

I would so rather be 'gross' than uptight and neurotic about germs

Do you not think that’s a tad over the top? Surely you could sponge it down and get at least two uses out of it? 😉

My points are twofold: that our own skin is covered in pathogens naturally all the time. And that we touch things endlessly all day that carry more pathogens than our clothes without washing our hands between each touch.

And also that a measure of bacteria/germs/pathogens etc are essential to keep our immune sytems functioning properly. Super ultra clean environments are not healthy.

Who's your dentist? Steve Martin from Little Shop of Horrors?
