For those following this existing thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4635864-tradesperson-inviting-people-into-my-home?page=1 aka the tale of the fluffy blanket and the dodgy electrics thread, it continues here.

Nothing new to add at the moment though, but the previous thread is almost at capacity.

OP I can't think of anything worse than having this conversation. But good for you that you are unbothered by raising it. I cringe just thinking about it.

Youaremysunshine14 · 22/09/2022 17:11

It's not her responsibility to blow up his poor wife's life.

I think her husband would be responsible for that.

figmaofmyimagination · 22/09/2022 18:25

OMG what a shyster! What a cheek. OP give him hell.

bringbackveronicamars · 22/09/2022 18:26

I can only imagine.

So unprofessional. And theft ... charging you for time he hasn't actually spent working.

feckoffbrian · 22/09/2022 18:26

Oh blooming heck.

Michellexxx · 22/09/2022 18:30

I think you have dealt with this marvellously!

Whiskeypowers · 22/09/2022 18:31

Youaremysunshine14 · 22/09/2022 17:11

It's not her responsibility to blow up his poor wife's life.

was the exploding comment a deliberate pun given he’s a sparky🤣

MolkosTeenageAngst · 22/09/2022 18:31

I think your approach of waiting until the work is done is very sensible, ultimately you need to consider the effect on yourself confronting him before he’s done would have more than you need to consider the desperation of some posters for an immediate update!

That said, I can’t deny am very much looking forward to the final update once you’ve confronted him and are able to divulge all the juicy details!

Emotionalmessy · 22/09/2022 18:34

IvyPlant · 22/09/2022 15:47

To be clear, I have evidence that relates to how the uninvited visitors time is spent at my property but I don't really want to divulge here until the work is concluded in case it is too identifying. I will of course share with you all the nitty gritty details that people are probably hoping for once the work is completed if you can hang on until then. It's not a drip feed, but is withheld out of genuine concern of the press picking up the info and distributing it online. The last thing I want is for the tradesperson to stop or sabotage work before he's finished based on what he might have read online.

I am guessing he has a key.... dont forget to get that back after he has ermm... 'finished' the job... Has he not noticed you have cameras, crazy he hasnt realised. I think your doing a great job OP and please please deduct the hours his visitor was there. that easily will add up to atleast a day if not two

zoopigi · 22/09/2022 18:35

Is he finishing up tomorrow then? Or dragging it out further than his initial estimate?

Mumto1yearold · 22/09/2022 18:43

Honestly I am so invested in this post @IvyPlant ive literally been reading it every night after putting my little one to bed! For what it’s worth I completely agree to not confront until the jobs complete! And agree with you that your just trying to establish hours work as a pose to hours spent with his female caller. Please keep us updated I’m living for this at the moment 😂🙈

Scrambledandfried · 22/09/2022 18:49

👀 😆

Snackdealer · 22/09/2022 19:01

Fingers crossed he actually pulled his finger out and completed the work on time but based on how long his visitor has been there it is highly unlikely and I cant wait for the nitty gritty details 😀

NotJustAnybody · 22/09/2022 19:02

Just in case anyone is interested while we await an update from OP - some amusing 'workmen' stories.

Years ago I was having extensive work done on my house. Came home early one day and found a cat sitting on my microwave. I don't have a cat. Turns out they thought it was mine, had been letting it in every day, feeding it for me as they couldn't find any cat food in the cupboards!
Another time, different house, was having an extension built. My dog must have been annoying them and they'd shut it in the downstairs bathroom. My dog must have jumped up and knocked the lock. Cue, frantic phone call to me at work. I had to go home and give them permission to karate kick the door open, on the agreement that they'd do any repairs to the door.
Another time, different builders, managed to break 2 windows, one of which was a Victorian decorative pane. That cost them a pretty penny.

In every case, I'd have loved to have camera's set up so I could watch all the frantic goings on!!

Jewelanemone · 22/09/2022 19:27

Am getting very excited! 🙂

Macanncheese · 22/09/2022 19:28

Can’t wait for these sparks to fly 😂

zebrapig · 22/09/2022 19:29

I am far too invested in this thread! Can't wait to find out all the details once he's finished the work!

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2022 19:32

Fab title @IvyPlant

as soon as I saw it knew it was you 😃

forgot he doesn’t like working Fridays

make sense to question him once you have key back and obv the certificate you need

from last thread you obv have evidence uou needed

plus being Saturday assume your partner will be there as well

Onionbhajisandwich · 22/09/2022 19:34

I can’t wait to find out what happens! So pleased I found this thread!

WilsonMilson · 22/09/2022 19:36

IvyPlant · 22/09/2022 15:48

Univited visitor's time* should be an apostrophe, not plural visitors.

Even more scandalous if it had been a different woman every day!

DeliberatelyObtuse · 22/09/2022 19:50

This is gripping

Between this and the Creepy Garden Music thread it has been an absolutely golden week on Mumsnet.

OP loving your approach - can't wait to hear the next instalment

Dont forget the rude wedding guest who was avoiding 2 people who had “done them wrong”
That thread was great too, it’s been a good week on MN

DPotter · 22/09/2022 20:09

the rude wedding guest who was avoiding 2 people who had “done them wrong

Ooo missed that one!

Dave20 · 22/09/2022 20:11

What about inviting Matt Allwright over form Rogue Traders? He could turn up with his microphone and tv crew. I can imagine Mr Tradesman running into his white van ,never to be seen again..
