Travelodge refusing to return DC’s soft toy that was left in room

Flyflylikeakite · 16/09/2022 22:53

The hotel have told me that DD’s soft toy has been found but have said they can’t post it back to me. I’ve even offered to pay postage and they still say no. It was a Travelodge in London, we live up north in Cheshire so can’t even drive back for it. AIBU to think this is poor customer service from Travelodge? Is there anyway I can try to get this toy back for DD? I’ve been dealing with the hotel directly by phone and email but getting no where.

Which Travelodge? Maybe we can find a MNer to pick it up and post it?

PercyPigInAWig · 16/09/2022 22:54

Just arrange a courier?
It's not great but equally they probably don't have anyone to go to the post office.

MolliciousIntent · 16/09/2022 22:54

Can you send down an addressed envelope with the postage paid, and get them to put it in there? What's their reasoning?

If I were you I'd put a public post on Twitter or similar, a little bit of the spotlight won't hurt.

Stompythedinosaur · 16/09/2022 22:54

Could you arrange a courier to collect it? Would they allow that?

Comefromaway · 16/09/2022 22:55

Which Travelodge? I live on the Cheshire border but my daughter lives in London

Needmorelego · 16/09/2022 22:55

Could you pay a courier to pick it up directly from them and deliver it to you?

It’s the London Heathrow central Travelodge. More than happy to fund postage and petrol money

I asked Travelodge this and they said “that’s not an option”

They will have a lot of stuff being left. It will be up to the customer to collect it.

I was going to say this. I'd be happy to pick it up if it's near me or my work.

Re the question, it'd be a nice gesture if they did but I do get why it's not their policy, in fairness.

Comefromaway · 16/09/2022 22:58

Typical, she’s no where near Heathrow.

what are they suggesting?

Rosebel · 16/09/2022 22:58

All hotels are like this. My dad once left his dressing gown behind and they refused to send it.
Did they contact you or did you call them? If you called them it's probably been thrown or given away unfortunately. If they called you then that's just weird.
I'm not sure there is a way to get it back. Maybe complain on their Twitter account, usually seems to work.
Hope your DD isn't too upset.

Stichintime · 16/09/2022 22:58

It may be easier and cheaper to post a picture of the poor lost toy and we can all try and find a replacement?

sawwshaa · 16/09/2022 23:00

Collection only is standard. It would be labour intensive posting lost items and chasing postage payments in a busy airport hotel. And yes it's a teddy but if they offer the service everyone would want their charger returned!

Wigeon · 16/09/2022 23:01

There must be a mumsnetter passing through that travelodge who could pick it up for you! I would if it was a travelodge nearer me.

SueDCreme · 16/09/2022 23:01

I live near Heathrow I can collect it for you

Sunnidaze · 16/09/2022 23:03

We've left a few things behind at hotels over the years and they've always been posted back to us, as offered by the hotel. I don't think we even had to pay for postage.

AlwaysGinPlease · 16/09/2022 23:03

@Stichintime that's a fabulous idea 👍

I've literally just done a rescue mission for a wolf left in a different hotel in Heathrow. I'm happy to go for you, but I won't be able to go until at least Tuesday so maybe someone else can go sooner.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/09/2022 23:05

This is MN at its best. <sniffle>

I did have my charger returned by a Premier Inn in Solihull at no cost to me. I was very grateful!

I can jump on the bus tomorrow (love a bus ride I do 🤣)

Firkinhavinalaugh · 16/09/2022 23:08

What’s so utterly ridiculous is that you could send a stamped addressed envelope AND arrange for RM to pick it up with very little labour intensity from reception.
Its Irrelevant if it’s a charger or a much loved toy, there is an easy solution and one that doesn’t involve just throwing it away!
