Travelodge refusing to return DC’s soft toy that was left in room

Flyflylikeakite · 16/09/2022 22:53

The hotel have told me that DD’s soft toy has been found but have said they can’t post it back to me. I’ve even offered to pay postage and they still say no. It was a Travelodge in London, we live up north in Cheshire so can’t even drive back for it. AIBU to think this is poor customer service from Travelodge? Is there anyway I can try to get this toy back for DD? I’ve been dealing with the hotel directly by phone and email but getting no where.

And I don't work for Travelodge by the way, I just think shaming them publicly when YOU FORGOT THE ITEM yourself, is a pretty nasty thing to do.

Anyway, I am clearly out-numbered here LOL. SO toodle pipski. I am out. Hiding the thread now, and I don't have my notifications switched on so don't bother @-ing me!

Enjoy your gushing over the OP, and supporting her odd decision to shame Travelodge on here for doing nothing wrong.

Just what on earth is happening here Grin?

Amandasummers · 17/09/2022 06:00

I agree with some of the others. A child's much loved Teddy is a whole different kettle of fish and youve got to be downright heartless to refuse.

Ilovechocolate87 · 17/09/2022 06:14

Absolutely awful service and you are definitely not being unreasonable- Who could be so heartless and malicious as to not post back a child's special cuddly toy ffs!! I would be packaging it up without hesitation and going straight down the post office paying for it myself if it meant the poor little child missing it could be happy again.

I had some very special cuddly toys/dolls as a child and when I was 6 one got swept away to sea.I can still remember vividly now standing on the beach looking for her, crying in the hotel room devastated she had gone forever.
What is 'just a toy' to us can be like a real life loved person to a child.

I am so glad to hear that some kind hearted people on here are offering to collect the toy and return it back...thank goodness for decent people who actually have a heart!! And thank goodness for mumsnet! Haha.

WrongWayApricot · 17/09/2022 06:20

Byootifful that is 🤧

Joystir59 · 17/09/2022 06:24

I expect theyve thrown it away.

GretaVanFleet · 17/09/2022 06:25

If someone is prepared to pay the p&p and even an admin fee to have their item returned then I don’t see why the hotel wouldn’t assist customers by returning their items. Poor customer service having a blanket no return policy.

maddiemookins16mum · 17/09/2022 06:33

It is poor customer service. However, they will literally have stuff left behind weekly ranging from toys to wedding rings to car keys. It’s a bloody pain in the arse having to sort out returning forgotten items and unfortunately the customers involved used to think that the hotel staff should treat returning Granny’s favourite grey fleece jacket, as their number one priority.

However, we're all human, things get left behind.

Flyflylikeakite · 16/09/2022 22:55

It’s the London Heathrow central Travelodge. More than happy to fund postage and petrol money

I left my phone charger in that hotel and they refused to post it. I was pissed off as it was an Apple one and cost £35!! Policy apparently.

heathrowhelp · 17/09/2022 06:36

NC for this and not read the full thread as still dozing. But May be able to help in a few days if they want someone to pick it up and will allow this. (Just after the BH)

Let me know @Flyflylikeakite

Eminybob · 17/09/2022 06:36

To those saying it isn't bad customer service, it is and as a result of this thread, and OP's likely real life conversations, there will likely be more people choosing Premier Inn over Travelodge next time they travel.

Sswhinesthebest · 17/09/2022 06:36

I’ve had several things left on the back of a door to dry, returned to me from Belgium before.
You do think highly of those places that go above and beyond - and the opposite of course..

heathrowhelp · 17/09/2022 06:39

Argh! I read your first few and the last few posts and when I read a few more I saw you have someone already!

Fab news, so pleased. If you do need another hand nearby Heathrow, let me know!

AtomicBlondeRose · 17/09/2022 06:40

I once left a child’s special blanket on a ferry, clearly it was tangled up with the sheets. I did contact them but there was no way of getting it back. I found someone selling the same blanket on eBay, but it was brand new and ours had been tattered, but I bought it anyway. She posted it but it never arrived! When I contacted the seller she said the new one had been a back-up for a much-used blanket and I could just have that one if I wanted? So she posted me the old one for free and when it turned up, obviously much-cuddled and loved, the child thought it was their original blanket and still talks of the time I got their blanket back from the ferry!

I know you like to play the contrarian, however did you even read the OP, or was that too much like hard work?

It is poor customer service, Premier Inn can do it so why shouldn't Travelodge?

Probably because Premier Inn realise that making their customers feel good about staying with them is an important factor in them returning for another visit.

TheBookAccordingtoIsaac · 17/09/2022 06:50

You should contact them through twitter to "reunite DD and her cuddley toy", they wouldn't dare say no over twitter to avoid looking like monsters. If you share your tweet on here then other MNers can retweet it for you.

roundtable · 17/09/2022 06:51

Hope you get it back op. Shame the hotel was so unhelpful. Sounds like an unhelpful member of staff rather than hotel policy though from what some previous posters have mentioned

As an aside - don't let the ranty poster get to you. They seem to be contrary and simmering with rage on most threads I've seen them on. I don't usually take in names either.

Castleheights · 17/09/2022 06:51

What a super star you have found!
btw I once had a pair of toddler shoes returned to me! Not all hotels have this no return policy,

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/09/2022 06:55

Just nipping in to say that on the strength of many, many threads over the years comparing Travelodge unfavourably with Premier Inn, backed up by much poorer reviews for Travelodge on TripAdvisor, I've never booked with Travelodge and hope I never have to. Premier Inn all the way. This thread just confirms me in that view, so this kind of thing does make a difference to people's booking decisions.

Bummocks123 · 17/09/2022 07:09

So glad that someone is able to get it for you OP!

Its honestly such a wonderful thing a stranger is doing. One of my early childhood memories is leaving my teddy at a hotel and them posting it back to me. I remember sitting at the bottom of the stairs and how the anticipation felt in the pit of my stomach as I watched the door waiting for the postman to come. He came back to me with a little tag around his neck. I'm 37 now and that teddy is currently sat on my self still the love of my life! I'm so grateful the hotel sent it back to me!

girlmom21 · 17/09/2022 07:12

@WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps how's the hangover?

@SueDCreme what a star!
