Travelodge refusing to return DC’s soft toy that was left in room

Flyflylikeakite · 16/09/2022 22:53

The hotel have told me that DD’s soft toy has been found but have said they can’t post it back to me. I’ve even offered to pay postage and they still say no. It was a Travelodge in London, we live up north in Cheshire so can’t even drive back for it. AIBU to think this is poor customer service from Travelodge? Is there anyway I can try to get this toy back for DD? I’ve been dealing with the hotel directly by phone and email but getting no where.

Imagine if they have to mail back everything they found????

Do you know how much stuff gets left behind on a daily basis ...
I used to work in a hotel. The lost and found section is beyond compare..

It's your own fault. You are supposed to check the room . .

Amazingly they dont have to post everything they find. Its called discretion.

A toothbrush, pants, a razor, a box of chocolates generally wouldn't be posted back.

However things like a childrens stuffed toy, a piece of jewellery, a bag would usually and should be sent back.

This hotel must make its own rules because i used to work in a travel lodge in Liverpool and ive sent back a few teddys in the post and a watch.

Oh I’m so hopeful it can be retrieved! This is absolutely no help, I appreciate, but a certain other hotel that sounds like Flemier Bin posted my DDs teddy with a little card telling us about his extended stay! Appreciate this would likely be a full time job in busier locations but surely they know how upsetting it is when a favourite companion goes missing? Especially when you’ve gone to such lengths. Keeping my fingers crossed for a happy ending here

why try to disguise the name Premier Inn?! Confused

glad the toy has been rescued OP!

MarieKlepto · 17/09/2022 00:04

Good luck OP. May only be a "worthless" soft toy but so personally important. Pretty unsavy business though. With social media/mainstream looking for "good news", they'd get great press for reuniting left belongings with owners at little cost.

That’s just shit service!!

I left something in a train lately and the service I got from them was fantastic. I had to pay my postage which I was more than happy to do, they sent me detailed instructions on what to do. They were brill.

Of course it's not shit service! If the Travelodge returned every single item that every customer left behind, they'd have to employ someone in every hotel to spend their time wrapping packages up, and standing in post office queues half the day!

Moaning and complaining about Travelodge and saying their service is 'shit' because they won't return a child's toy (that the parent carelessly left behind,) is ridiculous.

It's NOT their duty to return it, and using an 'upset child' as leverage to try and make them sound like rotten meanies is a low blow, especially when it was the customer who forgot the toy. And posting a negative critical thread on mumsnet - a hugely popular website with high traffic - to berate Travelodge for doing nothing wrong, is bang out of order.

I hope the child gets the toy back, but having a go at Travelodge and making them out to be the bad guy here, is really not on.

I used to work in a hotel. We had a very busy lost and found box. We also posted anything back to customers free of charge because we understood the importance of good customer service and how that translates into repeat custom. I’m sorry you worked for an absolutely shite hotel. Hopefully you’ve had better customer servicing training elsewhere if you’re still in that industry.

Exactly! The entitlement of some people, and the sheer disgust and pearl clutching, because Travelodge won't return something the customer couldn't be bothered to pick up when they were packing to go home is hilarious.

The fact is the OP forgot this item, Travelodge are under NO obligation to send it back. End of.

Yeah yeah of course, every single item every customer left behind in your AMAZING shiny hotel, with all its super highly trained staff, was send back to the customer all gift wrapped with a little pink bow on, and SWALK written on the back..

Sure Jan! 😆

Well aren’t you lovely? And obviously you or your children have never lost anything or accidentally left something behind anywhere, unlike the rest of us imperfect mortals.

Nobody mentioned ‘obligation’. Nobody said it’s Travelodge’s fault it got left behind. But wouldn’t it be nice if people were nice to each other and helped a little girl get her much-missed toy back simply because it’s a nice thing to do?

Wow, is is unnecessarily rude.

I've had a travelodge post something back to me too, so it clearly isn't unheard of.

Nope. Never left anything behind, ever. Sorry if that doesn't sit with your agenda. If I DID, I would not be posting a thread on mumsnet berating the hotel for refusing to send it back. They have no obligation to, and it's pretty shady to berate them in this way.

No, every single item that was requested to be returned, was returned. Keep setting that bar low though, it’s about all some people can reach I suppose 🤷🏻‍♀️

MsRosley · 17/09/2022 00:27

Nice of someone here to pick it up for you, OP, but I'd still go on Twitter and shame the fuck out of them.

Posts like this are really strange to me. I can’t help but wonder how much of a miserable person you must be to think like this. The hyperbolic misinterpretation “sheer disgust” and “couldn’t be bothered to pick up” is so aggressive. And in relation to a child’s toy FFS!

Are you this unpleasant in your RL and are people aware? Or do you hind it under a veneer of normalcy? I’m genuinely curious. I imagine such spite eats a person up and it must be quite difficult.

‘Agenda’?! Ah ok, you’ve rumbled me, I’m part of the evil ‘Reunite Children With Lost Toys’ lobby.

And again, nobody mentioned ‘obligation’. Nobody. It’s remarkable and a bit sad that you can’t understand the difference between being obliged to do something and doing something because it’s the nice and decent thing to do.

Why are you so invested in defending a random Travelodge’s honour?! It’s quite strange but I suppose we all have to care about something!

I could collect next week if the other offers don’t work out for any reason OP (although I’m sure they will). Just message me if needed.

You mean like you are defending a random person on mumsnet that you never met? Who forgot her child's toy and decided to shame Travelodge for not returning it to her? And me saying she is out of order doing this, is somehow worse than posters here saying Travelodge are shameful and their service is shit, and that I must be a miserable soul for thinking the OP is in the wrong.

Ok then. LOL.

PegasusReturns · 17/09/2022 00:33

I stay in hotels in general twice a month. Over the years I’ve left loads of stuff in rooms.

Sometimes it’s returned with a lovely note, sometimes bunged in a Jiffy bag and sometimes gone forever.

PegasusReturns · 17/09/2022 00:35

It’s really not unreasonable to expect a hotel help reunite you with lost property. Especially a child’s much lovers toy.
