Travelodge refusing to return DC’s soft toy that was left in room

Flyflylikeakite · 16/09/2022 22:53

The hotel have told me that DD’s soft toy has been found but have said they can’t post it back to me. I’ve even offered to pay postage and they still say no. It was a Travelodge in London, we live up north in Cheshire so can’t even drive back for it. AIBU to think this is poor customer service from Travelodge? Is there anyway I can try to get this toy back for DD? I’ve been dealing with the hotel directly by phone and email but getting no where.

OP posts:

You mean like you are defending a random person on mumsnet that you never met? Who forgot her child's toy and decided to shame Travelodge for not returning it to her? And me saying she is out of order doing this, is somehow worse than posters here saying Travelodge are shameful and their service is shit, and that I must be a miserable soul for thinking the OP is in the wrong.

Ok then. LOL.

I simply said it would be nice and decent of the hotel to return the toy to an upset child. That’s all I have to say, really. Have a good weekend.

OP, glad this thread has connected you with someone who can help. I hope you get it back!

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 17/09/2022 00:37

And I don't work for Travelodge by the way, I just think shaming them publicly when YOU FORGOT THE ITEM yourself, is a pretty nasty thing to do.

Anyway, I am clearly out-numbered here LOL. SO toodle pipski. I am out. Hiding the thread now, and I don't have my notifications switched on so don't bother @-ing me!

Enjoy your gushing over the OP, and supporting her odd decision to shame Travelodge on here for doing nothing wrong.

Awww, someone who doesn't like facts.

Opinions aren’t facts, no matter how drunk confident you think they are.

Go to bed and have some water, sleep it off and stop embarrassing yourself.

SueDCreme · 17/09/2022 00:43

Well that escalated.......

Stickworm · 17/09/2022 00:43

@WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps this isn’t the airport you don’t have to announce your departure 😂👋

OP so glad someone lovely is getting your DD’s toy ❤️ Lovely people on MN do exist.

MissConductUS · 17/09/2022 00:54

Jetblue rang me about an Amazon Kindle table I left on a flight in the seat pocket. They posted it back to me at no charge. They're a great airline.

Oh I’m so hopeful it can be retrieved! This is absolutely no help, I appreciate, but a certain other hotel that sounds like Flemier Bin posted my DDs teddy with a little card telling us about his extended stay! Appreciate this would likely be a full time job in busier locations but surely they know how upsetting it is when a favourite companion goes missing? Especially when you’ve gone to such lengths. Keeping my fingers crossed for a happy ending here

Flemier Bin are a million times better than travelodge on all counts imo. Really hope DD gets her toy back and all ends well OP.

zeromango · 17/09/2022 01:23

I've been after a new username ... Flemier Bin will do nicely Grin

OP I hope your DD gets her toy back!

ProseccoandPizza · 17/09/2022 01:32

Yup my son left his favourite teddy at a Premier Inn a few years back, it was posted back to us recorded delivery by the hotel.

Backtoblack1 · 17/09/2022 01:44

What a lovely gesture x let us know when you’re reunited lol x

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 17/09/2022 01:44

Well done @SueDCreme for saving the day! I'm not a million miles away so PM me if you can't make it and I'll pick it up Sunday.

how embarrassing for you 😬

Miserable sods.

I think OP did the right thing, and hopefully some people on this thread won't stay there in future on the strength of this. It's called CUSTOMER SERVICE, and seems to be sadly lacking in some places. If you provide shit customer service you don't deserve customers - pretty simple really.

LifeSucksBigTime · 17/09/2022 02:29

I left all of my favourite dresses in a wardrobe in a hotel in Majorca years ago. Completely forgot to look in the wardrobe when I was packing 🤦‍♀️. Realised before I’d even got on the plane but when I phoned/emailed the bastards denied any knowledge of them. Still wounded about that 15 years on.

Furries · 17/09/2022 02:38

Blimey, MN gets a bit more batshit every day it seems.

OP - I hope you’re reunited with said toy via the kindness of other posters.

For others/hotels etc. I doubt anyone would expect said establishment to be out of pocket for the return of an item. Its fairly easy to arrange for an item to be sent at the cost of the owner. But some businesses/staff can’t be arsed - shame , as they are the ones that get remembered and won’t be used again (and not recommended to anyone in their circle).

So, bit of an own goal by said hotel.

PercyPigInAWig · 16/09/2022 22:54

Just arrange a courier?
It's not great but equally they probably don't have anyone to go to the post office.

Go to the post office? It’s not exactly a gigantic trip is it? I’m guessing OP dealing with non parents who are just out of their teens? No empathy.

avamiah · 17/09/2022 02:45

Hi
I just read this thread and actually had to re read some of the posts as they are totally ridiculous.

I live in Central London and in my opinion the OP should totally Name And Shame the Hotel by letting everybody know the address so we can Avoid it .

The Hotel in my opinion should be sending OP’s DD lots of toys to compensate for their disgusting and awful customer service before this thread goes all over the internet which I have a feeling it could possibly do.

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/09/2022 02:52

That is so cute. Less than 10 mins of posting, the first offer of help, this thread is mumsnet at its best!

NeckFanInSoftPlay · 17/09/2022 03:32

@WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps Wow you're incredibly angry...

NeckFanInSoftPlay · 17/09/2022 03:37

LOVE that!!! 😻 The sunglasses! 😎

NeckFanInSoftPlay · 17/09/2022 03:41

@Flyflylikeakite Please update us once Ted has been returned! 🐻

StAgur · 17/09/2022 04:25

I am so pleased that this thread has a good outcome. I left my hat in a restaurant in Whitstable and they posted it back to me. I was so pleased and it was just a hat, not a child's beloved toy. My adult DC still love their childhood toys and my eldest has given hers to her first DC. These are not just 'items', they are family members!

I have never visited a Travelodge and now I never will!

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 17/09/2022 04:47

The best and worst of people all on one thread!
