Anyone else ? How ridiculous is that ? I just got really cold today at 20-21 degrees. I need 22-23 I think.

The tip of my nose was all cold. I'm ridiculous right ? When I speak to anyone else (normal people) they seem perfectly comfortable at 20 degrees- that's warm for them.

I was wearing a jumper by the way !

Good grief! How are you going to cope when it's actually bloody COLD? Get a grip people FFS! Hmm

How do you cope when it's hot , are you one of them people ( I am not saying you are but there's a lot of people on this head that I think might be) fan themselves and complained it's too hot and they can't sleep because it's too hot and they walk around in shorts and t-shirt and complain other people like myself that wear jumper and jeans in the warm weather telling me I must be too hot and I should take my jumper how can I stand the heat or putting the air conditioning on in offices so it's bloody freezing for me .

Ffs get a grip and cool down

I got home from work about half an hour ago and I'll be damned if I'm going to go back outside and have a brisk walk at close to midnight.
Yes I got jeans t-shirt and a jumper and quilts of my legs and I am not going to put the heating on this evening because I will be going to bed within the next hour but it won't be long before I do

BEAM123 · 16/09/2022 23:51

It's because there's a north wind. I don't know why but 20° with a north wind is colder than 20° with the usual prevailing south / south west wind ....I know that doesn't make any sense at all but its
true. Same as 22c of heating is a lot warmer than Aircon at 22C

FrecklesMalone · 16/09/2022 23:18

You are a proper wuss! My Dad would have so much to say to you. Get layers on and go for a fast walk for ten minutes to warm up. Honestly I can hear his eyes roll 2000 miles away.

This. ^ WTF is wrong with people? And I don't live SOUTH either... I live on the cusp on 'The North,' and am managing perfectly fine without the heating on 22-23 c, or a bloody log burner. In fact my heating has not been on since March.

Dramatic much? As I said, people are never going to survive the winter if they're going batshit right now in mid September, at the temperature 'dropping a bit.' No wonder some people have £200 a month heating bills!

@DeanStockwelll

Sorry to burst your bubble, and fuck up your silly theory, but NO, I am NOT someone who whinges about the heat in the summer. The ones who are banging on about the freeeeezing cold right now are very likely the same ones who moan constantly about the bloody heat in the SUMMER! I know right, heat in the summer! Who knew?! 🙄

Suzi888 · 17/09/2022 00:03

DD and DH have been in shorts this evening.
DD is sleeping on top of her duvet.

I think I’m peri and I’m absolutely melting.
We don’t even own winter duvets! We do have electric blankets, but they won’t be used for a few months.

Goldmember · 17/09/2022 00:09

Mine is on all the time. We've just got a new fandangled smart boiler that we've set to 19.5, the radiators are lukewarm at most times unless hot weather or freezing weather. It checks the outside weather to know if needs more or less power to get to temperature.
Our heating engineer advised it was most efficient for the boiler to be running warmish water through most of the day rather firing up on full blast to get hot radiators periodically. As it's new and the weather has been quite mild, it's hard to tell if it's right or not. The sun heats our house pretty well.

RoseMartha · 17/09/2022 00:16

Depends where you live tbh
I am in south east and it is colder than it has been. I am still wearing summer dresses. Not sundresses though. But short sleeve ones with a cardi.

I am sitting in bed with the window open. Currently over 21 degrees in my bedroom. Heat hasn't been on yet. My home is fairly warm however, which hopefully will be a bonus in the winter. It wasn't a bonus in the summer when it was 28-30 at night in my bedroom.

FantasylandEnthusiast · 17/09/2022 00:20

Where on earth is everyone that you're actually cold?! I've been in a dress all day!

ElEmEnOhPee · 17/09/2022 00:43

I'd have put it on today if I wasn't worried about the prices going up, I'm going to hold off as long as possible. I did phone my mum though and she considered putting hers on but also decided against it.

Arenanewbie · 17/09/2022 01:00

So what? I had it on for a bit yesterday and today but I never promised to keep it off. And I was wearing fleece, warm socks and joggers. If you need it and can pay for it it’s fine. I don’t think it’s daft or that you are somehow bad, people have different tolerance of cold so it’s pointless to compare. I can see it in my own family - DH and DD are much better in tolerating cold then me. They are often in t -shirts when I’m wearing fleece already.
By the way gas price went down today.

AuntTwacky · 17/09/2022 01:01

I felt cold tonight and wanted to put it on but didn't, probably will tomorrow though

Heating in September? Don't see why people can't just wear layers or get under a duvet TBH. It's not hard.

3’ here outside overnight. It’s cold. That’s allowed for other people. I’ve not put the heating on as managed to trap the heat from oven and tumble dryer. Will be getting the heated blanket out for the bed tomorrow.

Wow calm down

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 17/09/2022 01:04

Not for me. Eeking it out as long as poss. I have however put the lamby under blanket back on my bed tonight and ddog is now spooning me under the duvet rather than on top of it ❤️

Well tbf we've had to put up with people crying over how they cant afford winter and suddenly it's all OK! Not sure everyone quite understands how charging actual works!

It's really annoying! But at the same time good luck to you all being in debt before November!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 17/09/2022 01:16

My heating came on when it dropped to 15 degrees at about 9pm. I turned it off sharpish as we're on LPG and the tank needs to last to the end of the year when I can organise selling some of my organs to pay for it refilling.

It was chilly but not too bad. Can't believe this time last week I still had the 3 tog duvet on.
Luckily my toddler doesn't seem to feel the cold and sleeps on top of her duvet even when it's freezing. I feel sorry for my baby though. He was so cold when I wrapped him up for bed tonight :(

I'm going to cope by putting the heating on even more!

Hate being cold. My heating was on today.

I think it is a travesty that people can't afford to heat their homes. I'm lucky that I can, though. Let's make it a race to the top not a race to the bottom. We shouldn't normalise the lengths people are having to go to to stay warm because they can't afford heating.

Doesn't matter what the month is, if you are cold you are cold.

BooseysMom · 17/09/2022 03:01

I’m freezing but can’t afford to put the heating on. The house is 17c and I’m saving my money for when it drops below 15c. I’ve gone to bed so I can be under the blankets where it’s warmer. This is the sort of thing I had to do as a child with an unemployed single mum, I never dreamed I’d be doing it again as an adult with two salaries coming in

Exactly this.

bbcdefg · 17/09/2022 03:24

I'm in the north of the uk and it's been chilly In the mornings and evenings.

I've deployed my heated throw and oodie because I feel the cold more than most due to medical conditions.

HumbleApe · 17/09/2022 05:50

Our energy usage is actually 50% of average for a house this size. I have a colleague who likes to wear the fact her heating doesn't go on to the start of November as some sort of badge of honour yet her bills are more than twice mine.

You’re assuming that the people who’ve had the heating on today and the people who can’t afford winter are the same people.

Hugasauras · 17/09/2022 07:10

Ours is all individually controlled with room thermostats and timers so while I didn't make a conscious decision to, I noticed that the kitchen radiators had clicked on yesterday morning and when I checked the app, it had dropped to 15.7 in there overnight. It was 8 degrees when I took DD to nursery so definitely getting cooler!

Edge of the Pennines in Yorkshire.

This thread is in danger of turning into another competitive "I never feel the cold" thread.

I suspect that most of the warmer posters live further south and at lower altitudes than I do.

BTW they have snow in the Cairngorms this morning.
