Anyone else ? How ridiculous is that ? I just got really cold today at 20-21 degrees. I need 22-23 I think.

The tip of my nose was all cold. I'm ridiculous right ? When I speak to anyone else (normal people) they seem perfectly comfortable at 20 degrees- that's warm for them.

I was wearing a jumper by the way !

My heating stays on all year and will click on if the hallway falls below 19 degrees at certain times of day. Clicked on tonight.

Nothing worse than being cold, there's heaps I'd cut back on before freezing in my house.

@HumbleApe same for me. Hate being cold. Not a chance I would be sitting in my house with scarfs & gloves on.. I'd rather cut back on literally everything else before having to sit in a freezing cold house.

DeanStockwelll · 16/09/2022 22:57

I think the sudden temp drop hasn't helped but I normally walk to my bus stop ( 30 min walk ) and get very warm , yesterday and today I had to put a thick jumper on and was still cold within mins of stopping .

I am curious to all those that say they wait until it's x temperature in their house before they put the heating on how do you know what the temperature is do you have a thermometer or barometer stuck to your wall or do you rely on the thermostat that controls the boiler ( which in my opinion is very greatly from model to model) either way round it depends entirely on where the thermostat thermometer is placed.
A few years ago in my house it was set at the bottom of the stairs when house of refurbished it was put on the opposite wall ( but the same hight ) this resulted in me having the thermostat set much higher because if I kept the thermostat set at the same marking of temperature the house was much colder.

The refurbishment was only partly rewiring so had no effect on the insulation of a house.

I would recommend everybody buys a proper thermometer and places it in different areas of the house at different times of the day to get a true reading.

dustofneptune · 16/09/2022 22:59

100% wanted to put it on today! I was wearing a cosy tracksuit and was still cold. Best friend (who I live with) was in a tshirt and said he was hot. And so behind the annual debate on when the hearing here turned on. This year I think I’ll lose the battle.

On the plus side, Oodies are £25 off right now so I went and ordered one 😂I cannot WAIT.

Tumbleweed101 · 16/09/2022 23:00

It's chilly after the hot weather and I have a jumper on for first time in about 6 mths but not cold enough for heating. I quite like it a bit cooler and sleep better.

Crotonifolia · 16/09/2022 23:04

There's been a definite drop in temp, but thankfully no central heating needed here yet (central belt Scotland). It was colder overnight and this morning, but actually quite sunny and pleasant in the afternoon, so the house is sitting at about 19.5 just now.

RampantIvy · 16/09/2022 23:08

We had 15 degrees today. Definitely jumper weather.

earsup · 16/09/2022 23:10

throw on bed, cardigan, no heating yet...am on fixed price low tariff until next year but trying to hold on before heating goes on....still have bedroom window open all day and here its sunny in day time...

TabithaTittlemouse · 16/09/2022 23:13

I thought about lighting the log burner tonight but put another layer on.

Heating in September? Don't see why people can't just wear layers or get under a duvet TBH. It's not hard.

Yes because everyone can just sit under a duvet all evening and not move! My dd6 wanted to play in her room before bed pj's and oddie on and her little hands her still frozen so off course the heating went on.

Fluffygreenslippers · 16/09/2022 23:17

Yes I was worried about the baby. We put a second blanket on him. We’ll have to turn the heating on soon though.

FrecklesMalone · 16/09/2022 23:18

You are a proper wuss! My Dad would have so much to say to you. Get layers on and go for a fast walk for ten minutes to warm up. Honestly I can hear his eyes roll 2000 miles away.

I put ours on for 30 minutes because it was down to 14°. Warmed it up to 17°.

Sometimeswinning · 16/09/2022 23:19

I put on my fleece to pop outside. Thank god I'm hot blooded I guess. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere than overpriced energy.

JohnsShirt · 16/09/2022 23:23

I jad mine on, put the heated seat on in the car too, I am always cold though.
It's going to be a v expensive few months.

I totally deserve it. Now it's just suddenly got too hot and it's off again. I can never just get the temperature right.. I don't usually turn it on quite this early I must say. Last year was definitely later. Like everyone is saying, it has dropped quite suddenly this year.

YANBU. Ours went on today. After trying to resist it all day we have in. It was cold even with blankets and hoodies on. We also have a baby so feel we have to make sure she's warm enough.

MrsAmaretto · 16/09/2022 23:28

Rosewaterblossom · 16/09/2022 22:24

My heating wouldn't be turned on until November usually because heating is expensive. You must be very well off to even consider putting on now, even when gas prices weren't what they are currently.

@Rosewaterblossom lol! Where do you live? Showing some southern bias there and clearly unable to understand the weather isn’t the same all over the Uk. Shock horror hearing options aren’t the same outside cities and suburbia 😱

  1. In my part of the UK it’s barely made it to 15 degrees this year
  2. no mains gas. I wish I had such a cheap controllable heating option even at todays prices
  3. If I left my heating off until November every year my house would be rotting and my children sick.
Mybeautifulfriend22 · 16/09/2022 23:29

I’m greater Manchester and our thermostat is 19.5 in the hallway. We are in t shirt pjs with a blanket and not cold at all. It’s about 8 degrees outside. No need for heating at all yet.

in winter we heat to 19 for a few hours a day. 20 on very cold days

Always4Brenner · 16/09/2022 23:30

Duvet for me still summer one but will wrap up in that.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 16/09/2022 23:33

Good grief! How are you going to cope when it's actually bloody COLD? Get a grip people FFS! Hmm

magma32 · 16/09/2022 23:33

Yes, I’m a cold person generally, quite slim and have hypothyroidism which on paper looks well managed. When I have stayed at my parents, they have the heating off overnight and I find the cold air gets to my throat and seem to wake up feeling awful with cold like symptoms. Really sensitive to it even if I’m wearing warm clothes, I can’t stand cold air.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 16/09/2022 23:39

Staying at a friends house, she has a new build and I’m feeling far too hot. Have the windows open also.

Lilyhatesjaz · 16/09/2022 23:41

I think it massively depends where you are but also what type of house you live in. I am in the south my house is well insulated and the sun has been on the big french doors all day.
The thermometer says 22.5 so no need for heating. I would be putting the heating on if it was 17

maddiemookins16mum · 16/09/2022 23:45

It was chilly today, first time in months I had a cardi on at my desk at home. I’ve also got my blankie on the sofa.
I’m very close to putting the duvet back on the bed (we’ve still just the duvet cover and bedspread).

mrsmacmc · 16/09/2022 23:47

Hive saying temp is 18.4 in the house. Winter duvet is looked out and airing for bed change tomorrow along with the winter curtains. Bed socks and heavier pjs on tonight along with blanket on the bed. Central Scotland
