I have already turned the heating on

Anyone else ? How ridiculous is that ? I just got really cold today at 20-21 degrees. I need 22-23 I think.

The tip of my nose was all cold. I'm ridiculous right ? When I speak to anyone else (normal people) they seem perfectly comfortable at 20 degrees- that's warm for them.

I was wearing a jumper by the way !

The weather has definitely got cooler, but I will not put the heating on until much later. However, I have started looking out my jumpers and warmer clothing

Hugasauras · 17/09/2022 07:17

Oh and we are in north-east of Scotland.

Meredusoleil · 17/09/2022 07:23

It's flipping 4 degrees this morning in Greater London ffs 🥶

CaptainSamCarter · 17/09/2022 07:28

My thermostat is set to 17 between 7am and 8pm and 15 overnight which is the minimum temperature it will go to. This morning it has come on for the first time this Autumn. I hope this doesn't mean that we are set for a long cold period. I was hoping to make it through to October before it came on.

bbcdefg · 17/09/2022 07:30

My hearing - when it's on - is never on overnight. It's on in the morning for an hour and in the evening for about 4. The thermostat is set at 15 for those times.

Ringmaster27 · 17/09/2022 07:35

I haven’t turned it in at home - luckily I live in a very small, relatively new build with decent insulation, so it seems to stay pretty warm inside.
But I did turn it on at work yesterday! I work in a really old pub. It’s a listed building, and it’s really draughty, no double glazing, and feels like a fridge the second the temperature drops below 15°c outside!

TeddyisMydog · 17/09/2022 07:36

In Scotland, my heating has been on every day for the last month

AndTwoFilmsByFrancoisTruffaut · 17/09/2022 07:36

I’m in the south east. Definitely not central
heating weather yet. If anyone tried to put the heating on here it would be the last thing they ever did. Not looking forward to MiL coming to stay this weekend, she‘ll want the heating blasting out and I get so hot and bothered when it’s not cold enough to need it 😡

heidihigh · 17/09/2022 07:41

I haven't turned it on yet but last night was definitely colder than it has been for a long while, I had fluffy loungewear and blankets on the sofa! It is currently 2 degrees though Sad

buffyverse · 17/09/2022 07:43

6 degrees when I got up. I've put it on for an hour this morning !

Benjispruce4 · 17/09/2022 07:44

I’m menopausal. Built in heating. One benefit.

Benjispruce4 · 17/09/2022 07:46

We are going to try to go as long as possible into the autumn without it to save money anyway. Thermal socks and blanks ready.

saleorbouy · 17/09/2022 07:47

You must have money to burn. Let's be honest it's hardly cold, if you are active your body will produce sufficient heat. If you're sedentary then of course you'll be cold.
No wonder people are worried about bills if the a chill on the tip of you nose is the barometer to turn the heating on.
Good luck for the winter!

giveovernate · 17/09/2022 07:49

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 16/09/2022 22:04

There’s a real chill in the air this evening! I’m trying out my new heated throw.

Where and what one did you get? Is it good?

gogohmm · 17/09/2022 07:50

Try a jumper! At 21 degrees unless you have a medical condition you should be plenty warm enough without a jumper even. Ensure your windows are shut (ours were still fixed part open from the heat I realised yesterday) and close the curtains before nightfall to keep heat in better. It's your gas bill but for the sake of the environment layer your clothes first. Our thermostat is set at 18 degrees when I put the heating back on anyway

Noteverybodylives · 17/09/2022 07:50

It’s definitely turned chillier here but not enough to turn the heating on.

Wearing a dressing down and bed socks with slippers takes the chill off.

Many MNers always seem quick to put their heating on.
Maybe dressing gowns are frowned upon.

This depends on where in the uk you are. It's been 6 degrees here overnight and only getting to 11 during the day today.

Mummadeze · 17/09/2022 07:51

I wanted to but didn’t. You need to acclimatise. Otherwise how cold will you feel in the dead of winter. Am dreading it!

Hugasauras · 17/09/2022 07:52

You bet I'm sedentary in the evenings!

gogohmm · 17/09/2022 07:52

Ps I'm sw so perhaps it's warmer here, very cold overnight though, took my coat to the pub for the first time since April

Noteverybodylives · 17/09/2022 07:53

I agree.

The key is staying active - washing up, hoovering, going for a walk etc. then you’ll stay warm.

If you need or want to sit down then put on your thick socks and a throw/dressing gown.

Pop a hot water bottle in your bed if you’re really cold.

TightDiamondShoes · 17/09/2022 07:54

I live in the same place as @MrsAmaretto and there’s nothing between my front door and the North Pole. Just 40mph northerly winds - at least the wind gets the washing dry in minutes. 😂

I'm not putting the heating on yet. 15 tog duvets, hot water bottles and a thick layer of brown fat I’ve laid down for the winter.

bbcdefg · 17/09/2022 07:54

This isn't always true.

I'm physically disabled. Getting moving isn't an option for me.

Plus I have arthritis and thyroid issues, which means I feel the cold. Even in the summer I'm layered up at least one more layer than anyone else.

Sorry my quote didn't work.

This is what I was referring to

WonderingWanda · 17/09/2022 08:00

I did notice a chill today and it felt like I needed a jumper outside yesterday but I wouldn't say it felt cold or that we needed heating yet. I've so enjoyed the warmth of summer, and am not ready to give up my flip flops for boots, jumpers and being freezing cold.
