I have already turned the heating on

Anyone else ? How ridiculous is that ? I just got really cold today at 20-21 degrees. I need 22-23 I think.

The tip of my nose was all cold. I'm ridiculous right ? When I speak to anyone else (normal people) they seem perfectly comfortable at 20 degrees- that's warm for them.

I was wearing a jumper by the way !

I think we only feel cold because it’s dropped quite suddenly? (Whilst still not being remotely cold). Surely for the vast majority of the U.K. we are not even close to needing the heating on..?

I won’t have it on until it’s single digits all day and all night.

RagzRebooted · 16/09/2022 22:20

South East. It's 19.8° in my bedroom, but several degrees colder in DS' room as we've got the airing cupboard in ours and a rad that's broken so it comes on slightly with the hot water. Annoying in summer! DS2 said it's cold in their room, he put a blanket on the cat! They do still have a window open though, as do I. I definitely noticed the chill this morning when I had a shower, but again window was open all night in there too. We're a way off needing heating on, but will probably be shutting the bathroom window before baths/showers now. Gets mouldy though as no extraction fan so can't keep it shut.

Had the fluffy dressing gown on last night for the first time since Spring. Duvet back on the bed. I think I'll get heated throws for the DCs. Even at nearly £50 each would work out cheaper than heating over the course of the next 6 months!

Tiredmum100 · 16/09/2022 22:20

Yes I've put my heating on for 2 hours tonight, in the living room only. I put it on last night for 2 hours in all the rooms.

mrsfollowill · 16/09/2022 22:20

Chilly here! was 8c outside this am and 14 indoors- admit I put the heating on for 30 mins to test it was working OK.
It is. Another 30 mins this evening to dry some clothes and dehumidifier switched back on. We have our own towels in this house and use them for a week and for the last couple of days they are not drying indoors like usual- putting dehumidifier back on plus a bit of heating has made the house much more comfortable and dried the towels- I've still managed to line dry laundry today though and had the windows open for fresh air this afternoon.

Definitely, it's vene such a hot summer I felt the chillnwheb the bedroom got to 20, yet usually midwinter we don't put the heating on higher than that, usually set at 18!

middleofthelittle · 16/09/2022 22:23

We've had the fire on, not putting the heating on. View the coal we bought last year as almost free

Pumpkintopf · 16/09/2022 22:23

First night we've lit the log burner.

Rosewaterblossom · 16/09/2022 22:24

My heating wouldn't be turned on until November usually because heating is expensive. You must be very well off to even consider putting on now, even when gas prices weren't what they are currently.

Northernsoullover · 16/09/2022 22:24

It feels chilly and it did cross my mind. The thermostat is in my bedroom atm and it's reading 21. It doesn't even get to 20 with the heating on in the depth of winter so it's staying off.

moneybeingwasted · 16/09/2022 22:25

Have to confess that the heating was on for an hour 😳

FirewomanSam · 16/09/2022 22:26

I get the cold nose too and it’s the worst! I hate it when people say ‘put a jumper on’ because no matter how many jumpers you wear, you can’t exactly put one on your nose! (I’ve quite enjoyed wearing masks in winter the past couple of years for that reason though!)

The worst is lying in bed under a thick duvet and blankets with thick socks on, but having a freezing cold nose.

No heating for me yet but I did get a blanket out of the cupboards to lie on the sofa this evening, for the first time since last winter!

mrsfollowill · 16/09/2022 22:26

Agree it has been so hot for so long it's a big adjustment! I WFH and was wearing sundress and flip flops for weeks and back in leggings big jumpers and slippers now. I have been praying for this cooler weather so I'm not going to moan about it! I'm liking the novelty of hopping into a cold bed these last two night and sleeping better than I have in months :-)

YourWinter · 16/09/2022 22:26

It’s 10° outside and 18° indoors at the moment, the kitchen window is ajar and all the upstairs windows too. I’m in a vest, cotton jumper and shorts, but I’ve just put a fleece over my legs and the cat has settled on it beside me! Wrapped fleece around the tomato plants, I hope the geraniums are ok.

UnashamedLabelHo · 16/09/2022 22:28

OOH! Get you, Moneybags!!

JK. I had the thought yesterday but going to hold out til October at least. Have a competition with my DB as to who cracks first.

Pepperama · 16/09/2022 22:29

15 degrees indoors today and now 5 degrees outside - Scotland is just colder than further south and heating will need to go in soon. Felt chilly most of the day even with warm jumper and wool socks

Msgrieves · 16/09/2022 22:29

It is pretty chilly today, its fucking bliss, I have put the heating on for literally 30 minutes the past week to get kids uniform dry. It is weird though, to go from a pretty warm summer to immediately 7°at night.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 16/09/2022 22:31

I'm just about to dig my hot water bottles out. Had to begrudgingly put the heating on the other night to finish drying my uniform off so I'm refusing to switch it back on again tonight

HumbleApe · 16/09/2022 22:33

My heating stays on all year and will click on if the hallway falls below 19 degrees at certain times of day. Clicked on tonight.

Nothing worse than being cold, there's heaps I'd cut back on before freezing in my house.

Dashel · 16/09/2022 22:34

Our winter duvet is back on tonight and we had the electric blanket on for a bit tonight. We have oil heating and a log burner and they will be off for as long as possible.

We did use the log burner more than perhaps we should to get that cosy feeling in previous years. I think the electric blanket will work out much cheaper so that will be the first heating option.

pear6782 · 16/09/2022 22:34

Definitely much colder today. Kids complaining it is too cold already so heating was just on a little while ago. Turned off now, but already starting to feel the chill again :(

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 16/09/2022 22:35

No heating on here but did sit on the sofa snuggled under fleecy blankets with DS watching a film, it was 16 degrees in the lounge. Colder upstairs but thats because we have bedroom windows open. Have switched the duvets over to winter ones and am currently nice and warm under it.

Nosuchthingasover · 16/09/2022 22:36

Fellow wimp here!
You beat me! I put the heating on for an hour yesterday! It felt all wrong!

Work2live · 16/09/2022 22:37

Really noticeably colder here today.

I’ve got a blanket over me tonight for the first time in months.

We go on holiday in October and I’m really hoping we can keep the heating off until we come home!

PurpleCatCuddles · 16/09/2022 22:52

We nearly did - ended up getting lots of blankets out instead! We move house in a month and I'm determined to leave the heating off until we move.

JamSandle · 16/09/2022 22:53

I felt cold today. I refuse to put the heating on yet so got under my covers til I warmed up.
