Time for the Queen to abdicate?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 06/09/2022 14:08

If the first day of our new 'Prime Minister' is spent having to do a 1,000 mile round trip to Balmoral and back, rather than sorting out immediate problems, then is it time for the Queen to abdicate and let Charles take over?

What's a "1000 mile round trip and back"?

Confused
Anothernamechangeplease · 06/09/2022 14:10

I don't think she needs to abdicate. They could have just done it via Zoom/Teams.

As for Charles taking over, no thank you. Let's scrap the monarchy altogether when the Queen dies.

Sunnydaysunny · 06/09/2022 14:11

It was an isolated incident.

Let's not.

LaundryBin · 06/09/2022 14:13

I don't think she'll ever abdicate. I do think Charles should become Regent though- the Queen is clearly not well enough to do the role.

I agree with this. Sick of over privileged folk preaching about how we should live our lives.

PurpleDaisies · 06/09/2022 14:13

When the queen abdicates/dies, that’s the time for the monarchy to end.

CatherinedeBourgh · 06/09/2022 14:15

Meh, at least if she's travelling Truss won't be fucking up the country just yet...

I have no time for monarchies in general but am fairly fond of old Liz. Once she's gone, it's all downhill from there...

CodysFish · 06/09/2022 14:15

500 miles and 500 more. To Scotland. 🎶

We need a referendum.

Needmorelego · 06/09/2022 14:16

We didn't have a national election for this new prime minister. If it was a planned scheduled election it would have been more likely the Queen wouldn't be at Balmoral and would be in Windsor/London instead and the new PM wouldn't have had to do such a long journey.
It would be better if the Tories didn't have to keep re-electing their leader every two minutes....

😂 exactly what I was about to ask

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 06/09/2022 14:19

Yawn.

It must be a few weeks now since we last had one of these threads.

Apart from the “let’s abolish the monarchy” ones which come up almost daily.

It’s not going to happen.

mamabear715 · 06/09/2022 14:19

What? NO! I love our Queen!

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 06/09/2022 14:19

@ellyoctober

What's a "1000 mile round trip and back"?

London to Balmoral is 516 miles.

So it's actually 1,032 miles.

Have you heard of Googlemaps?

She won't abdicate

HappyHamsters · 06/09/2022 14:20

My heart bleeds for our new PM to suffer an hours flight and be waited on hand and foot

Do you not think Truss is working while travelling? I don't imagine she's sat in the back of the car reading the latest copy of Take a Break

3peassuit · 06/09/2022 14:21

Is there are a reason why it can’t be done on Zoom? All those miles plus time wasted.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 06/09/2022 14:21

Why? What possible benefit having all the shenanigans that Abdication would entail be? I don’t think it is going to be that long now, tbh.

More importantly, we are now faced with the prospect of a monarch who is already at an age when retirement is on the cards, to say the least, with an even older wife. Will they limp on for another twenty years, until the next King is at least sixty?

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 06/09/2022 14:21

Oh and, if there were no monarc we would still be under the leadership of president Boris

So take yer pick.

Sharrowgirl · 06/09/2022 14:22

She won’t abdicate. She doesn’t believe in it!

Have a referendum if you want but people will vote to keep the monarchy, so best get used to it.

Watchthesunrise · 06/09/2022 14:22

Have some respect.
