To find Asda rewards annoying

Asda has a new rewards app! I wont be downloading but

When you go round the store you might see a price say on a tub of roses or celebrations for £1. Thats the price you pay if you have a reward not the normal price.

You have to look really hard to see what the normal price is and they are all over the store. At first glance you will think the tub is a pound, you know it cant be but its prominent and makes you think its a pound. So you have to search out the normal price!

Wish they would stop all these reward apps too its very discriminatory to people who dont have apps and who still spend money.

Sainsburys is best where you have a card if you want to join a loyalty scheme and fair to all.

Clubcard is exactly the same. Loads of deals and prices displayed that are actually only for members

dementedpixie · 04/09/2022 14:30

That's not how the asda rewards work. If you buy the tub of sweets it adds a £1 onto your asda reward total. You can then use the asda rewards as a coupon to get money off your shopping at a later date

Propagandalf · 04/09/2022 14:31

I'll just stick with my green pre-paid (Spree) card with 2.5% cashback. That means £1 back for every £40 I spend. Sainsbury's is 3%, Argos 5%, Caffe Nero 7% etc.

Bubblebubblebah · 04/09/2022 14:31

It's not £1, it's get £1 of rewards?

Oysterbabe · 04/09/2022 14:33

What do you have against getting the app? I have a Tesco credit and club card because I like paying less for things.

luxxlisbon · 04/09/2022 14:34

How is sainsburys any “fairer” it’s still a loyalty scheme you have to sign up to.

luxxlisbon · 04/09/2022 14:35

It’s a waste of plastic for every single person registered to get a card whether they want it or not. I always have my phone with my and would prefer to scan a barcode on that rather than have a wallet bogged down with loyalty cards.

scooble · 04/09/2022 14:35

That’s not what the sign means OP, maybe google how it works

That's what the Asda rewards is, it's an app where you scan the barcode.

dementedpixie · 04/09/2022 14:37

The price instore isn't reduced like in tesco. It adds money onto a running total in your rewards app and you can save and spend them later on. The products you earn rewards on change periodically

SantaCarlaCalifornia · 04/09/2022 14:37

I like it but I do only shop online.
If you see something with £1 rewards, you still pay the same price but you get £1 back into your rewards pot.
I've earned £31.59 in the last 2 months just buying what I'd normally buy.

The plastic Clubcard is only optional now as you can use the app instead

It's very clear

It's literally an app and the barcode is on there rather than on a card

Surely there is an app? . All my other supermarket cards are on my phone. I'd be surprised if this was different. Many don't carry wallets any more. Phone does it all!

Burnt0utMum · 04/09/2022 14:38

I used the Asda rewards app for the first time this week and it's by far the best supermarket loyalty scheme I've seen so far. Just did my normal shopping and got nearly £5 back to use next time. Asda is one of the cheaper supermarkets anyway so it works out quite good. If you don't want to use it that's fine but there's no point moaning about something that can help people save a bit of money. I also much prefer the app to a card as I don't want to be carrying loads of different cards around when I shop.

Stath · 04/09/2022 14:40

@girlfriend44 I think you’ve misunderstood.

The £1 is not the price you pay if you have the rewards app, it’s how much cash you ‘earn’ from that purchase.

The amount is then transferred to an Asda voucher.

I think the Tesco Clubcard pricing thing is crap. I’d much rather have a cumulative % of my shop made available to spend in the form of spendable vouchers which don’t limit me to specific products.

dementedpixie · 04/09/2022 14:38

I know! Omg how many people are telling me this.
OP is the one trying to say an app loyalty scheme is discriminatory against people who don’t have the app! I’m just making the point to her that 1 it’s not discriminatory and number 2 an app reduces plastic waste.

dementedpixie · 04/09/2022 14:41

We have £22 in our cashpot on the app that can be used whenener we want

giveovernate · 04/09/2022 14:42

Discriminatory, get a grip!

DrManhattan · 04/09/2022 14:42

Soon your data will be more valuable than what you are actually buying

Willbe2under2 · 04/09/2022 14:43

I love it. I do my weekly shop at asda and in the last 4 weeks I've 'earned' £16 worth of vouchers. You don't get a cheaper price but you do get money added to your 'cashpot' if you buy certain items or achieve certain missions (eg spend £50 or by x-number of frozen goods by x-date). You can then convert your cashpot to vouchers to get money off your shop.

Bubblebubblebah · 04/09/2022 14:44

It's essentially cashback that's all

I didn't get a card, just a barcode on the app.

The items aren't £1, you get £1 of rewards in your app. The normal price will just be on the shelf like any other items.

I like it. I've received £13 in just 3 weeks of doing my normal shopping.

I shop online anyway so they already have my "data"
