Scrunch bum leggings while teaching children.

There's a discussion going on about this at an Australian parenting site and I'm surprised at some of the comments tbh. I was wondering what MN thinks.

www.everybump.com.au/community/topic/7784-scrunch-butt-leggings-when-teaching-children/

I don't think that they're inappropriate at all and recoil at the idea of policing what women (especially young women) wear.

YABU: it's not appropriate for an educational setting.

YANBU: it's not a problem

Are there dress codes? I recall seeing my dc PE teacher in very short shorts and very tight leggings

Pinkpeony2 · 25/08/2022 01:18

Not appropriate and I’m a teacher.
Teachers in secondary schools should at the very least follow dress codes that students have to (on kids dress down days)
School round here don’t allow any leggings at all unless the bum is covered with a long top. They don’t allow short skirts, make up, most jewellery, crop tops or strappy tops or certain types of shoes.
Why is it ok for a teacher to come in those extremely tight up the bum leggins that literally allow others to see your bum cheeks and crack.
Ij my opinion they are awful for wearing anywhere let alone a school.
i don’t want to see your arse crack defined and two wobbling bum cheeks thank you unless it’s at the beach or pool 🤣

Newusernameaug · 25/08/2022 01:18

I just read the first page of comments and other than the OP there’s only 1 person who agrees - the rest all say they’re fine??

I have a pair, they’re super comfy and flattering. Strange thing to have an issue with.

NiceTwin · 25/08/2022 01:18

They are absolutely hideous and in no way flattering, who wants a hungry bum, but I don't think they are damaging to children.

EntertainingandFactual · 25/08/2022 01:22

I hate these leggings! Men seem to like them though - according to social media/tik-tok.
I don’t think they are appropriate in a school setting but they seem to be creeping in - seen a few students wearing them.
Thankfully, the PE staff are not.

thatisnotyours · 25/08/2022 01:22

Oh I agree they're not my style 😅 Nobody wants to see me in a pair of those pants anyway!

Johnnysgirl · 25/08/2022 01:24

I had to google these... Christ, the models either have gigantic arses or the leggings are very, very weird Hmm

bridgetreilly · 25/08/2022 01:26

They are absolutely grim, but not something that needs to be banned.

SaggyBlinders · 25/08/2022 01:29

Why would you want a style of leggings which make it look like your arse is eating them?!

I guess for a PE teacher they might be okay. Would be strange outfit for any other teacher. Though they look inappropriate to me, for a male or female teacher to wear them.

Maytodecember · 25/08/2022 01:33

Depends on the setting. Sports hall, athletics track ok. Teaching in regular classes not so much but then would a history or maths teacher wear a tracksuit to school. Would depend on school’s dress code.

LampLighter414 · 25/08/2022 01:34

We had a PE teacher all the boys used to perv on because you could make out lacy thongs under her leggings.

inappropriate

RosyappleA · 25/08/2022 01:37

Why a teacher would wear leggings to enhance the bottom in front of horny teenagers is beyond me tbh
Is there any other reason this scrunch was invented? Seems like disgusting instagram model attire to me. Not exactly setting a good example.

HobnobsChoice · 25/08/2022 01:58

From reading the link this isn't a teacher. It's a university student who is some sort of sports mentor/coach as part of a university activity (maybe yoga) aimed at kids. Wouldn't be my choice and I suspect the student mentor hasn't really considered that they aren't the best option. I do think they make your bum look quite weird. The pink versions of these types of leggings really are most unfortunate as they give a distinct baboon vibe.

Stillamum3 · 25/08/2022 02:05

Thank you Hob NobsChoice I laughed out loud at the baboon bottom!

ShirleyPhallus · 25/08/2022 02:07

Does she also stand in that ridiculous pose they seem to make the wearer stand in too?

you know, one leg behind the other and body contorted towards the mirror?

BlodynGwyn · 25/08/2022 02:19

Soon everyone will wear them and it will be so hideous.

When mini skirts came out in the 1960's, the Twiggy types looked really cute in them, but pretty soon everyone wore them, no matter their figure type. And that's why we quickly moved on to maxi skirts.

RiverSkater · 25/08/2022 02:23

They seem to be a style of leggings designed to accentuate the bum crack.

I don't wish to be judged by my bum crack so don't wear them.

Some women might choose otherwise but why in a school setting is beyond me. I will get called out for body shaming.

It's inappropriate.

Likewise I don't wear low cut tops or think men should wear tight cock caressing trousers. Or

WiddlinDiddlin · 25/08/2022 05:22

To be fair here OP, it was 'whilst demonstrationg to children in a sports/PE setting' not just 'teaching'..and not in fact, a teacher.

So 'close fitting athletic wear whilst teaching sports/PE'... my male games teachers wore joggers that were fairly snug and left little to the imagination, tiny shorts ditto.. and the women wore tiny pleated gym skirts or very small shorts too.

I think the scrunch bum leggings look grim but then my main aim in clothing these days is 'will this give me a pressure sore' and not 'does this make my arse look great'... my arse looks like porridge, on a good day.

They look appropriate for 'active wear' which is what they were being worn for.

Classroom wear, not so much perhaps. Maybe teachers should all just wear shapeless sacks these days?

OP from the Australian thread here. I’m rather surprised that my thread has gone international!

If you keep reading the thread you’ll find some fabulous posts from some members about raunch culture and about clothing standards for teachers in an effort to help reduce child sexual grooming from being normalised.

Bottoms up!

Any clothing that makes people stare at your arse (whether that's in bewilderment, disgust or appreciation) is not appropriate work attire, especially if working with teenagers. Younger kids will just find it funny if they can see her bum crack, but it's still inappropriate.

I used to agree with the sentiment of "not policing women's bodies", but it turns out that some people make dreadful decisions if left to their own devices. If you're working with children, then you should always err on the side of caution. If you're the sort of person who likes teenagers staring at your arse, then you're not the sort of person who should be working with teenagers!

There are enough creepy people constantly trying to break down the social norms/barriers that keep children safe, without anyone else going along with this nonsense.

Scrunchedbum · 25/08/2022 06:29

Thanks @SurpriseSurprise . I’ve been around for about two years now. MN is great for forum batshittery. Who knew toilet brushes were such an issue?! I didn’t until MN and I still don’t get it.

SudocremOnEverything · 25/08/2022 06:34

The placements office in many universities despair of having to tell students about appropriate dress and conduct in schools. There’s always some kind of problem. It’s a minority obviously. But even in people training to be teachers, there’s often at least one who refuses to accept the need to dress ‘professionally’.

if it’s formally organised through the university, I would put money on it that the buddies in this programme have been told about appropriate dressing. But this student thinks the rules don’t apply to her.

Not all clothes are suitable for all occasions. You wouldn’t wear a thong bikini to take Y5 swimming, even if you look great in it and would happily wear it on the beach on holiday. In the same way, you look at your sportswear and think: which is these is appropriate for this purpose?

balalake · 25/08/2022 06:36

There are very few situations where leggings look good. This is one where they do not.

wb3 · 25/08/2022 06:39

A young year 6 teacher at my school wears them on PE days.

The boys in her class love PE days.
