Scrunch bum leggings while teaching children.

There's a discussion going on about this at an Australian parenting site and I'm surprised at some of the comments tbh. I was wondering what MN thinks.

www.everybump.com.au/community/topic/7784-scrunch-butt-leggings-when-teaching-children/

I don't think that they're inappropriate at all and recoil at the idea of policing what women (especially young women) wear.

YABU: it's not appropriate for an educational setting.

YANBU: it's not a problem

Personally I think they’re pretty awful and smack of exhibitionism. And I don’t think they’re suitable for teaching, if only because they’re likely to distract children with giggling.

Might add that while people can wear what they like, I do wish people with colossal wobbly arses who like wearing skin tight tights/leggings, would at least wear longer tops to cover them in the street, not waist length jobs that inflict every ripple and wobble on innocent passers-by.

I didn't realise that was deliberate, I always thought it was an unknowing faux pa 😆

No, I think it was deliberate - definitely a fashion.

Teachers are at work, not at school.
They don't determine the uniform policy.

They still need to dress roughly in line with their employer’s dress code.

I’m doing two jobs interviews tomorrow (as a panel member). I’m not being interviewed but I’m going to dress in the rough genre of things I might wear to a job interview. Because being dressed appropriately is part of the process.

Teaching assistant at our primary tends fo wear leggings and black fluffy sliders.

That's no good in an emergancy. She should be sacked.

If people with small bums can wear whatever they like then I'll dress my colossal arse in whatever I like thanks. Just stop staring at people's arses and you'll be fine.

Not getting the it's worse/OK when the wearer has an ugly/not ugly arse. Actually I do get it and it's a reprehensible view.

The leggings are horrendous outside the confines of the gym/home.

And no, it's not OK for work. Not for women. Not for men.

Maireas · 25/08/2022 08:52

It's very much a thing and a trend started by the Kardashians. Have a look at "skims" wear. Some of our 6th form girls wear this look - those leggings and a crop top. That's the style.

SmileyClare · 25/08/2022 08:54

I drove past a woman walking along wearing these in beige.

For one horrible moment I thought she was naked from the waist down, like that awful nightmare when you go into work, look down and realise you've forgotten to put your knickers and trousers on and wake up in a cold sweat relieved it was just a dream.

Suzi888 · 25/08/2022 08:55

OMG 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 scrunch butt? Had to Google. They’re horrendous!!!!!! They should be renamed hungry bum leggings.

I can see why men would like them 😕don’t leave much to the imagination do they? but leggings paired with a thong never really do. I don’t need to anyone’s vaginal flaps and arse skin in such great detail to be honest! 🤢Should be worn with a long top/tunic if you absolutely have to wear them. Very unhygienic imo!

Policing womens bodies? School is a work place / learning environment. Wear what you want outside of work. Would you expect your G.P to be rocking a pair of these?

Shouldn’t be worn around children, you wouldn’t wear a thong bikini for a school swim class would you?

Yes, we have a dress code. It is followed by staff. What we don't have to do, as adults, is to conform to the uniform policy for our students set by the governing body.

Fritilleries · 25/08/2022 08:56

I don't like them. They're designed to deliberately enhance your bum. Children don't need to see your bum as a sexualised body feature. Much the same as cleavage, which is the same. It is simply not professional or appropriate within a setting that demands a clear and distinct boundary between adults and children.

WeightoftheWorld · 25/08/2022 08:56

I didn't know these leggings actually had a name. Round by mine it's only students who seem to all be wearing them (I think with no underwear on underneath?? otherwise wouldn't you see them through the leggins given the style?). I agree with PP that they're just grim tbh. I wouldn't be happy if someone was teaching my 4 yo old PE in those.

I think your term "sexualised" is correct. Female clothing is far more sexualised than male, and often features "display"

Confrontayshunme · 25/08/2022 08:59

I came in on PE day to my Year 1 class wearing bike style shorts during the July heatwave and multiple members of staff started saying "Are we allowed to wear shorts?!" I pointed out that if we were not, the two male PE coaches could be brought up on it first, as they led the way. Why should they be allowed casual comfort but we have to sweat profusely through long trousers? I have NO problem with teachers wearing comfortable clothes.

Well obviously.

The expectation you all don polyester blazers is silly.

Clearly it should be premium grade cotton and silk, polyester is vile... 😉

Exactly - it was the poster upthread who said that that I'm challenging. She said we should all sweat in polyester blazers like the students!
Every school I've worked in has a dress code for staff. You get phoned at home if you break it!

basilmint · 25/08/2022 09:02

I think the title os a bit misleading. If you read the post on the original site it's a sports activity run for kids where they have a uni student buddy so it's not quite the same as me rocking up to my classroom in them.

SmileyClare · 25/08/2022 09:02

Come on, if people want to leave the house with their whole bum out they can't expect everyone to avert their eyes! Nor can you get all offended when people notice and think it looks awful.

Like anyone wears these atrocities in the hope that their arse goes unnoticed 😂

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 25/08/2022 09:07

Have never seen these leggings (shows how in tune with fashion I am!) but no, leggings and nothing else on covering them so boys will stare is inappropriate.

Maybe worn by a PE teacher they all seemed to trot around in games skirts/leggings/tops at my girls school/convent this would be appropriate but otherwise not.

Yes but if you are offended by arsenal don't look at arses

Many people say you shouldn’t wear leggings if you have no ass or if your legs are too skinny.

How about instead of having a minimum and maximum size limit on what women are allowed to wear. Everyone should act much less judgemental (and in your case jealous) and to allow women to wear whatever they want.

BreatheAndFocus · 25/08/2022 09:11

I had to Google them - and they’re absolutely ridiculous 🤣 No matter the size of your bum, they’re completely unflattering and make the wearer look like some kind of blow-up sex doll.

Not suitable for schools or any workplace IMO.
