Scrunch bum leggings while teaching children.

There's a discussion going on about this at an Australian parenting site and I'm surprised at some of the comments tbh. I was wondering what MN thinks.

www.everybump.com.au/community/topic/7784-scrunch-butt-leggings-when-teaching-children/

I don't think that they're inappropriate at all and recoil at the idea of policing what women (especially young women) wear.

YABU: it's not appropriate for an educational setting.

YANBU: it's not a problem

Any clothing that makes people stare at your arse (whether that's in bewilderment, disgust or appreciation) is not appropriate work attire, especially if working with teenagers. Younger kids will just find it funny if they can see her bum crack, but it's still inappropriate.

I used to agree with the sentiment of "not policing women's bodies", but it turns out that some people make dreadful decisions if left to their own devices. If you're working with children, then you should always err on the side of caution. If you're the sort of person who likes teenagers staring at your arse, then you're not the sort of person who should be working with teenagers!

There are enough creepy people constantly trying to break down the social norms/barriers that keep children safe, without anyone else going along with this nonsense.

100% agree.

I think everyone from my Australian forum is over here now reading fresh threads, lol. It’s gone very quiet all of a sudden. Show yourselves Aussies!

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 25/08/2022 06:55

I don't see the issue, and I don't think it'll damage children. Leggings are tight anyway, I'd rather my kid see a scrunch bum legging than someone with the cheap leggings that shows their underwear.

SplunkPostGres · 25/08/2022 06:55

This is bizarre. Everyone has a butt, so what’s the issue with form fitting trousers? It’s like policing women with larger chests from wearing jumpers. I don’t get it at all. If children are objectifying their teachers, then that’s the issue not the clothing.

dizzydizzydizzy · 25/08/2022 06:56

I agree with you OP. The Victorian days have long since passed.

Soon everyone will wear them and it will be so hideous.

When mini skirts came out in the 1960's, the Twiggy types looked really cute in them, but pretty soon everyone wore them, no matter their figure type. And that's why we quickly moved on to maxi skirts.

They really won't ! They're absolutely awful ! Will go the way of every slightly odd fashion , in years people will be saying 'do you remember those awful leggings we used to wear'

liveforsummer · 25/08/2022 06:59

We have a smart casual dress code at the school I work in and the leggings wouldn't fit with that. We aren't allowed to wear any sort of sporty leggings. Fine for a Pe/sorts type role though

Sparklingbrook · 25/08/2022 07:04

Never heard of these, they're really horrible, wouldn't be wearing them anywhere. Looking forward to the thread getting in the Daily Mail though.

They are absolutely hideous and in no way flattering, who wants a hungry bum, but I don't think they are damaging to children.

A hungry bum!😂

Shit, didn’t think of the Daily Mail.

Really? they will love this, complete with picture of the offending garment. Or maybe Loose Women?

Sellorkeep · 25/08/2022 07:19

You ‘recoil at the idea of policing what women (especially young women) wear’ yet you started a voting AIBU yo ask people for their views on the appropriateness of a particular style of garment?

Who would have thought that hungry bum leggings would unite the forum worlds in chat?

chillipenguin · 25/08/2022 07:48

These look really weird but you know each to their own. PE teacher fine, History teacher - bit of a weird choice.

Maybebabyno2 · 25/08/2022 07:49

Probably not for a school setting but the op in that thread is telling about uni students at an activity. Can't see the issue tbh

BarbaraofSeville · 25/08/2022 07:49

I find it such a bizarre fashion. No-one would dress like that if it wasn't 'in'. They would get destroyed by their peers.

Yet because it's fashion then it seems to be compulsory to wear clothes that make you look almost like you're not actually wearing any clothes.

Weirdwonders · 25/08/2022 07:49

If children are objectifying their teachers, then that’s the issue not the clothing.
🤦🏻‍♀️
Forgive the shit pun but how utterly ass backwards is this.

We’re blaming kids now, for the behaviour of grown adults who should know better? Perhaps in a teaching role we should accept that you don’t get to indulge your every last whim when it comes to clothing? Perhaps children need appropriate guidance from suitable role models so that appropriate interactions are taught and modelled at a young age?

You have to Log In or Sign Up to see the full post I don't think I want to Grin Is this thread just a big ad for other Australian forums?

Yeah it's a bit weird

Alldelicious · 25/08/2022 07:51

Our dress code prohibits leggings of any sort except when worn as hosiery. I.e. with a skirt.

PE teachers wear school issued kit. Either longish shorts or loose tracksuit trousers, although it is true the school kit was purchased partly because of the length of some of the younger staff's shorts.

RainbowsMoonbeams · 25/08/2022 07:53

Each to their own, but I think they are horrid.

BruisedSkies · 25/08/2022 07:53

Not appropriate. I don’t think anyone should wear clothes to work that show the exact shape of your bum crack. I do see women wearing them these days but they looks so uncomfortable. And why would anyone want everyone to see their bum crack at work. Aren’t they self conscious?

Sparklingbrook · 25/08/2022 07:56

Maybe they are aimed at women who think that their bum crack is their best feature? 🤔

Alldelicious · 25/08/2022 07:57

If women get to choose and it's always the fault of objectors for objectifing them, where is the line? Is it OK to go to teach in a crop top? Bikini? Underwear? Nothing at all?

pictish · 25/08/2022 07:58

Had to google scrunch butt leggings…wow they are shit!

Probably not appropriate for teaching, no.
