Is this how men talk? Is this acceptable? Met police court case

What police 'allegedly' talk about when discussing rapes, DV victims, people with disabilities.....

www.lbc.co.uk/news/met-cops-sent-racist-and-sexist-whatsapp-messages-to-wayne-couzens-group/

"Detectives found material on the WhatsApp group stored on an old phone belonging to Couzens, the former officer who was jailed for life over Ms Everard's rape and murder."

It goes on further

"in the chat, jokes were made about West London being a "f Somalian s*hole", while in another exchange, Mr Neville said his experience of "struggle snuggles" had helped him pin "a 15 year old girl going mental to the floor".

Btw struggle snuggles was their term for rape.

"In another exchange, Mr Cobban said domestic violence victims "love it" and "that’s why they are repeat victims more often than not".

on and on it goes.

This is who protects us? This is who we report crimes to? This is who we are supposed to trust and respect?

AIBU in wanting to fucking protest outside that court?

Well I'm not sending love hearts to someone deigning to tell us NAMALT whilst expecting applause for not setting his bar so low it's on the fucking floor.

Fuck that.

@WarnerSisters
Thanks for bringing me back down to earth with a bump. I went a pretencious Uni and studied a classical competitive subject. I seen and heard male priviledge at its peak in my most formative years - the way these guys would berate woman was beyond me. And these classmates were all beautiful, intelligent woman. Perhaps a blessing and a curse in many ways. Of course now, these mens lives are instagram perfect with whichever woman was around at the time they deemed suitable 'settling age'.

It boils my blood.

Oblomov22 · 30/07/2022 15:26

All the police officers in the force that claim they've never reported it, because they've never seen it, I call bullshit.

Bullshit - agreed.

Felixsmama · 30/07/2022 16:20

I've heard men talk like this when they think you aren't there/listening one of OHs ex colleagues was chatting to OH over teams he said he used to call a woman colleague big tits and he said he would follow her when she was getting coffee. My OH didn't really say anything back but I was shocked. I think what men talk about in private would probably make us boak

Felixsmama · 30/07/2022 16:23

I work in healthcare and I do think we have dark humour probably to decompress from the horrific and stressful situations. I'm guessing the police are doing that but never that far.

StaunchMomma · 30/07/2022 16:27

They should all be struck off and all officers made to submit group whatsapp messages for checks.

The force seems to harbour a lot of racists/homophobes/sexists wankers in general and it would do itself an enormous favour to use this as an excuse to purge itself of the lot of them.

Meowmeowmeowmeowmeow · 30/07/2022 16:28

As an aside have any of you guys ever dated one of police? I immediately unmatch when they drop the p bomb.

There is nothing at all funny about rape or sexual assault.

@stillvicarinatutu would it really be so hard to find a new way of coping than joking about rape victims and sexually assaulting children?
And have you ever called out any of these hilarious comments?

Well done, you did the job you’re paid to do.

If the police don’t want bad press how about they stop employing rapists, racists, homophobes and misogynists.

This is how low the bar is set for police. They want a round of applause for not fucking up their basic job.

IncompleteSenten · 30/07/2022 16:56

Taking the piss out of victims of crime is never ok and if someone can only cope in their job by mocking raped, murdered or abused people they should resign and get therapy. Lots of therapy.

And if you're not talking about those cases then you agree with everyone else that the cases being talked about on this thread are always unacceptable and should be dealt with very firmly. Right?

You're asking if people do the basics of the job they're employed to do. You realise that, right?

Notbeinfunnehbut · 30/07/2022 16:59

Tbf the fact they were friends with Wayne Couzens does probably mean they were already quite depraved so not like ‘average people’

100% agreed. They should in fact, not be allowed to have chit-chats while working and anything sent during working hours should be submitted. Of course they will get around that with burner phones, but they need to stamp out this culture of hatred! A culture of disdain for anyone who isn't a nasty bastard. A culture of subjugation, entitlement, power (misplaced).

Yes. I had been on POF (Plenty of Fish, a dating website) for about 2 years and I chatted to some guys who I never met, some who I had met but remained friends with with no attraction otherwise, some others who I was chatting to with the potential to also meet. I started chatting to a police officer on a Thursday and we agreed to meet on Saturday. On Friday, he texted me (given his job, I trusted him), to ask why I was still on POF? I replied that I hadn't even met him and that if he could see that I was still online, then clearly he was online! His response was that I didn't need to chat to anyone else as I was now meeting him on Saturday. That got him blocked.

Joking about rape and domestic violence is 'dark humour' used to deal with the trauma of the job? Like absolute fuck it is. It shows a complete lack of respect and appreciation for the trauma of actual victims - far too many of whom are victims at the hands of actual police officers.

There is a very real danger that the job is going to get a lot harder for front line police officers, as policing by consent, good will, faith and trust of the general populace is eroded. Or should that be corroded. Too many of us have very little faith that there is any point contacting the police when an offence occurs, outside of murder. Certainly not for rape or sexual abuse. Today I saw two teen kids snorting lines of cocaine at midday on the wall of a parking building. They obviously don't think there's much likelihood of them feeling the heavy hand of the law on their collar.
