Dd is meant to be going to the beach tomorrow with the school by coach. I really do not want her to go. But she really wants to. I don't think its a good idea at all. She's 12 incase it's relivent.

No, going to the beach is crazy and I'd be amazed if the school go ahead with it.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 17/07/2022 21:20

Assuming it's somewhere where the temp is due to be high 30s then the school are insane to take the kids. I wouldn't let mine go.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 17/07/2022 21:21

God no imagine if the coach broke down or was in an accident on the way and they all had to get out and stand around in the heat! I saw three accidents today in a five mile journey! Not all cars are air conditioned and heat makes people stupid.

I can't think of a better place to be. How long is the journey?

User8394721 · 17/07/2022 21:24

Which beach or an approximate location, some will be less busy and are cooler.

ClassSize2022 · 17/07/2022 21:25

I don’t know what schools are up to trying to be ‘normal’ in a heatwave. You simply don’t send her.

lunar1 · 17/07/2022 21:25

Absolutely no way would my children would be going.

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 17/07/2022 21:27

Ridiculous. I wouldn't let mind go.

WTF475878237NC · 17/07/2022 21:28

This is the hottest weather the UK have ever recorded. It would be a no from me. The schools here have cancelled their trips this week.

User8394721 · 17/07/2022 21:29

It's a bit hard to know without the location, Cornwall is about 28c so hardly a heatwave

rebelyellow · 17/07/2022 21:30

We live near the beach and there's nowhere I'd rather be tomorrow! It's the only place that will have a consistent breeze and a chance to cool off in cold water! Send your DD with a hat and already sun creamed plus more to apply, and plenty of drinks?

Workyticket · 17/07/2022 21:30

Mine is at the beach with school tomorrow

North east so not as hot as down south - and they'll walk there and back

I trust the staff to head back to school if it gets too hot for them

I'll slather him in sun cream and he'll wear a hat etc

Divebar2021 · 17/07/2022 21:31

Well how hot is it forecast? Assuming your concern is heat (you don’t say) it isn’t necessarily that extraordinary. Lyme Regis is 25degrees for example. How long will the journey be and what are the planned activities.

It's Margate beach in Kent. About 90 mins or so I think by coach

Amazed by these responses - MN is getting crazier by the day! Provided your daughter wears a sunhat, suncream, sunglasses, and spends a lot of time in the sea (what else are they going to do in this heat?) than she'll be absolutely fine. Don't make her miss out on a fun day with her friends. It'll be hot wherever you are and at least the coast usually has a breeze.

WTF475878237NC · 17/07/2022 21:35

Margate has a red weather alert so definitely not.

User8394721 · 17/07/2022 21:38

I would let her go, it will be about 30C which is not that unusual for summer, she is 12 so not a young child, plenty of protection and hat and stuff.

RoseMartha · 17/07/2022 21:41

It is usually cooler by the sea as likely to have a breeze.

How long are they at the beach?

It says 33 on bbc weather.

I dont think that is too hot if your dd has a hat and sun cream and plenty of fluids.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 17/07/2022 21:41

It'll be just as hot at school and most coaches have air conditioning, so I can't see the logic in keeping her home.

I'd much rather be by the sea than cooped up at home or at school in a sweltering classroom!

Misstes · 17/07/2022 21:42

Kent isn’t meant to be getting that hot although still low 30s. As long as they know to reapply sun lotion, wear a hat and drink lots they should be ok. I’m sure the staff will look out for them.

User8394721 · 17/07/2022 21:45

What is she going to do if she doesn't go, sit cooped up in the house, miserable, while you fret about the heat

Harridance · 17/07/2022 21:45

Let her go, she'll have a great time

Namechange303333311 · 17/07/2022 21:46

It’d be nice if it was near not a 90 minute coach journey away.

CallOnMe · 17/07/2022 21:59

Mines at the zoo tomorrow and they’ve got a 45 minute walk each way to get there from the train station.

We’re in Cornwall so not as hot as some places but I was hoping they’d cancel the trip or book a coach to take them straight there and back.
I don’t want her missing out by not letting her go.
