I was just wondering why we're not allowed to post about this case-the deletion message mentioned it was ongoing so wouldnt be fair to the family

Charlie gards case was on going and there was numerous threads about it

Anyway if this stands maybe we can discuss

I couldn't understand it either. The majority of the comments on the previous thread I felt were sticking to the facts and were respectful. Obviously a few were not, but why they were not deleted instead of the whole thread, I don't know.

This thread will also probably go shortly.

whynotwhatknot · 21/06/2022 16:34

They were granted an appeal yesterday i understand legally they had a point but the mother is still making claims hes alive she can see him responding to music and her voice and while his heat beats she wont allow them to turn the machines off

I feel shes just delaying the inevitable personally just like previous cases

Northernlurker · 21/06/2022 16:34

What do you need to discuss? It's an awful situation.

I thought it was a very calm and level headed thread other forums sm allow it so why not here

discuss the law, morality denial?

“The” mother?

FlibbertyGiblets · 21/06/2022 16:38

Not being horrible but don't you have anyone in real life to talk to? HQ made it very plain they wish no discussion of this current case on their website. Why can't you accept that?

PansyPetunia · 21/06/2022 16:39

Yes that's what she said, the mother. Presumably the mother of the child involved.

ErickBroch · 21/06/2022 16:41

It's an awful situation. I have followed since the start due to location, his mother has now gone private on FB at last after some pretty shocking posts about organ harvesting. These cases always seem to be dominated by random people across the UK claiming the hospital is trying to murder him, harvest organs, and starve him to death.

HikingforScenery · 21/06/2022 16:45

There were some truly horrible comments on the previous one.

This is someone’s life, experiencing something so horrible with their child.

Why do you need to discuss it?

I hope MN see this and delete it asap.

toastofthetown · 21/06/2022 16:49

I wasn’t sure why the previous thread was deleted either. It was mostly respectful, and while the situation is specific, matters of life and death, medical ethics and where the burden of treatment becomes too much in the face of futility is something which affects everyone.

I think the case is only being reheard on the single ground for appeal on whether the balance of probabilities is enough to declare death - or if there should be a higher burden of proof. Very sadly, given that there has been no blood flow to his brain for two months, and his brain stem is disintegrating I think the declaration of death will hold to a higher standard of evidence required. And the judge, notwithstanding brain death decided that ongoing treatment wasn’t in Archie’s best interests, and that wasn’t successful given permission to appeal.

whynotwhatknot · 21/06/2022 16:54

why is there such a hoo ha about discussing a case in the news

like i said charlie gards case was discussed in real time and mn didnt object so why is this so different

OP posts:
whynotwhatknot · 21/06/2022 16:56

Im glad he fb is private now the thing sive read are just ridiculous

of course hes alive-mum knows best-how dare someone else decide if he lives

keep fighting he'll wake up-its just disturbing some of the things the so called army have come out with

OP posts:
PansyPetunia · 21/06/2022 17:04

There's always an 'army' with every similar case that hits the media.

They are more of a hindrance than a help

If a doctor has said there has been no blood flow for weeks then I think the judge was cruel to let it go to an appeal.

toastofthetown · 21/06/2022 17:05

I think the other aspect to this case worth discussing is the awful and exploitative behaviour from the Christian Legal Centre.

whynotwhatknot · 21/06/2022 17:09

Yes definitely they wade into theses cases with right to life nonsense and geeing up the family for endless court cases

they wont be there for them afterwards will they

OP posts:
whynotwhatknot · 21/06/2022 17:09

Wasnt it the same judge aswell-so shes questioining her own judgement inthe firstplace

Absolutely. The more people who know how awful they are, the better.

bronzepig · 21/06/2022 17:13

It must be incredibly difficult to be rational when you have a loved one in the situation, which is why leglisation exists. My hurt goes out to them all.

No idea what the excuse is of the thousands of strangers who are forming this army though, all they're doing is exploiting someone elses tragedy.

Yes I also thought this @PansyPetunia

The idea of the family desperately mounting arguments this week, egged on by people with no expertise, (I've seen his mum claiming he's just paralysed, or has locked in syndrome), is really upsetting.

Georgeskitchen · 21/06/2022 17:18

It's very sad. The comments on Facebook were becoming more and more unhinged.
Of course Archies mum is in a state of great distress but accusing the highly dedicated medical staff of slaughtering her son is not a good way to go IMO

Somuchgoo · 21/06/2022 17:19

Its a very very sad situation, and I really feel for Archie's family.

One of the mums concerns is that this all happened too quickly and that she wants to see if more time will help Archie recover. Irrespective of the outcome of the legal process, it buys her the time she feels he needs, whilst she pursues all the legal avenues, and I hope the extra time is of eventual comfort to her.

Presuming the appeals take some months, then it may not be a legal decision that concludes this very sad case.

whynotwhatknot · 21/06/2022 17:25

Yes she now stated he has locked in syndrome which also isnt the same as brain dead-maybe it is to buy more time but how horrible will it be when the final judgement comes in for her

You could ask the same question about loads of awful situations which MN have apparently felt it was perfectly appropriate to discuss on here.

That's not quite what they said.
