To not understand why the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk only came over for 4 days?

I just find this really odd. To fly all that way then only stay 4 days? Surely they had other family to visit, could have made a bit of a holiday of it. I can&t imagine 2 long flights with toddlers that close together - it would be exhausting!

And tbh just as easy to sling 'unsubstantiated allegations' on SM. See below.

Surely a more interesting question would be why do you have a monarchy? Do you really feel these people, ie Charles, William, etc are better and more able and suitable than you and deserve to be entitled to huge amounts of money, land etc? I really find that opinion hard to understand in a western sort of democracy?

Sort of re the aforesaid monarchy, house of lords etc. Truthfully there's probably an argument against first past the post elections too as it leaves so many people feeling they've no representation , pretty accurately eg look at the ukip party as compared to say lib Dems, I've no time for ukip but their representation in parliament compared to votes got could be argued to be undemocratic.

I just find it odd, that you've got a fairly well educated population and yet accept or maybe don't see a lot of democratic deficits in your systems .

Re original op, I think fair play to Harry and Meghan, they seem to be looking after their children, not feeling need to virtually apologize for an understandably bored four year olds behaviour...

It may be more interesting, but a completely different topic. And not sure how your response to my post is relevant.

Harry really wouldn't have married one of your 'wonderfully English' daughters. It's really time to move on. Meghan won. She got her Prince, her place in the history books. Her skin glows and she's devastingly beautiful. She lives in California with her equally beautiful children and peaceful life. Not in a cottage in his gran's backyard spending her days smiling and babies and cutting ribbons. More power to her.

Um...things are going a little crazy now! What has that got to do with my OP!

@JaniieJones well you edited that out quick. 😁

Agree it didn't look good.

Perime · 11/06/2022 10:33

The thing is William and Kate must be aware of how the media will treat their own children. Charlotte and Louis will always be shoved under the bus to protect George and the Crown.

RepublicOfNarnia · 11/06/2022 11:56

Your OP was very clear. Thing is there's been enough threads about her behaviour, the jubliee, her children etc - I remember the "Has anyone ever even watched Suits!?!" threads.. You had to come up with the same type of thread under a different guise. Next week it'll be "I can't imagine how she managed to fly back with a 1yr old - must have messed up Lili's sleep routine for months!!!". It's just so transparent.

RaleighDurham · 11/06/2022 14:24

@Perime "Not true. A bus delivering other guests stopped in front of the crowd and blocked their view - just when all the big arrivals started. The driver was booed and moved on."
What about the boos as they were descending the steps at the end of the service? Were they also aimed at an errant bus driver?

antelopevalley · 11/06/2022 15:40

I agree this is an odd post. OP you would have criticised them if they hadn't come, and criticised them if they had stayed and gone to every event. Instead you criticise them for coming and being fairly low-key and going away again quickly.

Meanwhile Andrew and his covid goes unremarked upon.

I have no idea what you are on about! I'm autistic and don't really get saying one thing and meaning another. My post was very clear. I wondered why they only came for 4 days, considering a long haul flight, kids and family to visit. The end. There was no more to it than that, but carry on trying to 'read between the lines' if it makes you happy!

And tbh, maybe it was a stupid question for those that know more about the RF's lifestyle. I don't but some decent posters that have taken my post at face value have answered the question and I've learnt something new!

Do you know me? If not how do you know I would have criticized them? I've never criticized them in my life. I mean they're just some human beings I don't even know. I wish them well as much as I would to any stranger.

Did you make a thread about Andrew? If not that presumably means you approve of him? If you want my remark it is this: I'm glad he wasn't there. I did see an article that said something like 'the Duke and Duchess didn't attend the party along with Prince Andrew' and I thought it was horrible they had linked them.

Maybe you make covert criticisms of people you don't even know, however I don't.

I didn't hear any booing for H and M - only for the bus driver and Bojo.

Perime · 11/06/2022 18:11

I wasn't the only one booing BoJO either.

Who are the Duke and Dutchess of Suffolk? I don't think that title exists any more???

RepublicOfNarnia · 11/06/2022 18:23

If it's any consolation OP Harry could be releasing a book which will most definitely have Mumsnet in a tizz for a good while. Bide your time, you'll have ample material for threads!

The Royal Family are petrified of the Sussexes being too popular. They were not invited to certain events, and the Balcony events. I can understand them returning home. The Cambridge's didn't attend their niece's birthday party, strange. Kate is in awe of Meghan's ability to interact with people, give speeches etc. The Cambridge's have certainly upped their game, in response to the Sussexes, so that is good. William would NEVER have done his Big Issue thing without his brother snapping at his heels. The Prince of Wales hosting SCD at the Palace would also never have happened. It's all good. Until we get rid of the lot of them!

Their whole lives are a bit of a holiday.

Well judging by the booing, the royal family made a good call lol!

Probably the thought of spending any longer in a country full of haters.

People who've seen through their act are not 'haters'. You sound about 16.

entropynow · 11/06/2022 20:47

@Murdoch1949
Well apparently you can still fool some of the people all of the time.
Meanwhile back in realityville.

Without the royal family, she would have none of that being a two bit actress and all, more power to the royal family I'd say.

Because it was just a short visit? Why does anyone only go anyway where for a short weekend?

They didn't have to get back for work though, did they? They could have stayed a few more days to have proper catch ups. He, at least, would have known that the 4 days would be planned ages ago, things like last weekend don't just happen, and if he wanted to see people it would be better done after the Jubilee.

IrisVersicolor · 11/06/2022 22:02
