To not understand why the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk only came over for 4 days?

I just find this really odd. To fly all that way then only stay 4 days? Surely they had other family to visit, could have made a bit of a holiday of it. I can&t imagine 2 long flights with toddlers that close together - it would be exhausting!

Where? What did they say that was “raycist?”

Sometimes nothing needs to be 'said' 😔

Well, I have no idea if they wanted to stay longer or not. I just didn't understand why someone would do a 4 day trip with long haul flights.

Really? I went to NZ for the weekend once. Also did a weekend in LA. I was in San Francisco for 4 days earlier this year. 4 days in NYC the following month. That was all leisure travel but pre-Covid I frequently travelled to the US for 3 nights on business. It's no big deal.

antelopevalley · 10/06/2022 22:52

You did a round-trip flight of 41 hours for a weekend?/

With kids? And visiting family?

Surely a more interesting question would be why do you have a monarchy? Do you really feel these people, ie Charles, William, etc are better and more able and suitable than you and deserve to be entitled to huge amounts of money, land etc? I really find that opinion hard to understand in a western sort of democracy?

Sort of re the aforesaid monarchy, house of lords etc. Truthfully there's probably an argument against first past the post elections too as it leaves so many people feeling they've no representation , pretty accurately eg look at the ukip party as compared to say lib Dems, I've no time for ukip but their representation in parliament compared to votes got could be argued to be undemocratic.

I just find it odd, that you've got a fairly well educated population and yet accept or maybe don't see a lot of democratic deficits in your systems .

Re original op, I think fair play to Harry and Meghan, they seem to be looking after their children, not feeling need to virtually apologize for an understandably bored four year olds behaviour...

GreenLunchBox · 11/06/2022 00:06

This thread answers the question for you.

They came to see the queen so she can see the kids before she dies, but they probably won't set foot in Hate Island again for a very long time and who would blame them? 🤔

They certainly are…the ones who drag race into everything that has nothing to do with race.

Are you calling me racist?

Because of threads like this where you can see clearly how disturbingly obsessed some people are with them which backs up their claims about security.

Because they achieved their objective which was to see family and attend jubilee.

Because they wanted to go back to sunny California to a real summer.

Oh it's always 'obsessed' 'haterz' and 'racists' with these 2.

Look. They treated his family appallingly, fine their choice. Yet they choose to attend a high profile service at St Paul's knowing everyone would wonder why when they couldve just had tea with Granny, introduced their dgc then left on their private jet again. They are a mass of contradictions and many, many notice it. It's nothing to do with being obsessed. Hopefully that's the last we hear of them until his next tell all tacky reveal in Aug

Look. They were invited.

Harry really wouldn't have married one of your 'wonderfully English' daughters. It's really time to move on. Meghan won. She got her Prince, her place in the history books. Her skin glows and she's devastingly beautiful. She lives in California with her equally beautiful children and peaceful life. Not in a cottage in his gran's backyard spending her days smiling and babies and cutting ribbons. More power to her.

😂

Well she did 'steal our prince'

hidinginthekitchenwithwine · 11/06/2022 09:28

isn't there a tell all book coming with rumours of him slating Camilla et al? After the awful Oprah debacle, I imagine very few family members are comfortable talking to him as they know there's no such thing as a private conversation with Harry now! It's just fodder for Netflix or Oprah.

hidinginthekitchenwithwine · 11/06/2022 09:32

her skin glows and she's devastatingly beautiful? Confused True True. But she's also someone who thinks it's ok to trash her husband's family on Oprah and be economical with the truth. Beauty doesn't trump morality.

RepublicOfNarnia · 11/06/2022 09:37

It doesn't but given they expressly according to her questioned how 'dark' the baby would be I don't think racism is something you can 'rise above'. I've not a single doubt that her race affected her treatment. Do you know how I know? Because I am mixed race and race like it or not affects every single area of your life. People who move in those circles think they are already above everyone else - chuck in a half black woman and you've got a recipe for disaster.

hidinginthekitchenwithwine · 11/06/2022 09:47

in my family, with some Asian/Italian relatives, we've had this sort of discussion at family get togethers, sometimes even started by the parents to be! I'm not sure how musing on the skin tone of future child is an unusual or bad thing to do, when the parents look totally different. I'd also have wondered about the hair colour. Will it be red like their Dad?

RepublicOfNarnia · 11/06/2022 09:49

There's a world of difference between what you are describing and what Meghan claims. And yes even within mixed couples there's still a massive dose of mixed-fetishization dressed up as 'curiosity'. Again, I know this too.

hidinginthekitchenwithwine · 11/06/2022 09:51

Meghan didn't claim much though did she? They were both strategically vague about the skin comment, refusing to
name who even said it!

Mixed race, American, an actress and a divorcee to boot. A quadruple whammy of -oh why couldn’t we have had a quiet white upper class line toer.

I don’t really understand why the firm can’t see that causing the first mixed race royal couple in history out the country, then sending Kate and William on a cloth-eared royal tour of the Caribbean, then cold-shouldering them in public, doesn’t make the monarchy look appalling.

As a Republican the worse they look the better frankly, but it makes you question the competence of their advisors.

Yep. It was less like “will he look like grandpapa” than “will he have a touch of the tar brush”.

SabrePrattler I was watching on the BBC and only heard cheering but if you look at clips recored by the crowd they were heavily booed.

Not true. A bus delivering other guests stopped in front of the crowd and blocked their view - just when all the big arrivals started. The driver was booed and moved on
