To not understand why the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk only came over for 4 days?

I just find this really odd. To fly all that way then only stay 4 days? Surely they had other family to visit, could have made a bit of a holiday of it. I can&t imagine 2 long flights with toddlers that close together - it would be exhausting!

Not the way they fly. They won't be squashed up in economy with the baby on their laps.

rwalker · 10/06/2022 12:39

Because they weren't wanted can't be trusted not to quote anything people say to them .

PAFMO · 10/06/2022 12:39

Probably the thought of spending any longer in a country full of haters.

Yes, I suppose so!

Yep, they deserve a holiday after all their exhausting private flights and being waited on

lunar1 · 10/06/2022 12:41

They don't fly like us, the nip about on private jets so they can do it as often as they please.

They offset their carbon footprint by preaching to us about reducing travel and thinking of the environment.

SadLittleLife · 10/06/2022 12:41

They weren't exactly flying Ryanair were they? I'm sure a flight on a private jet with lots of paid help is less stressful than a package holiday.
The trip was a gesture, sign of respect to the Queen.
Don't think any "other family" would have been particularly keen to see them after their revelations.
Presumably due to their "security concerns", they wanted to keep it brief.

PAFMO · 10/06/2022 12:39

Probably the thought of spending any longer in a country full of haters.

They got mainly cheered though, so the majority aren't 'haters'. They seem to get on well with their cousins and their children I would have thought they might have wanted to share more time together.

No evidence they came over with their children and they took a private jet… environmentally unfriendly yes but hardly exhausting!!!

😂😂😂

I think they flounced off after 4 days

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 10/06/2022 12:43

I can only imagine it was just a work trip to them, filmed for Netflix or to give them something else to moan about. If I was so badly treated by my DH's family there's no way I would be flying to another country to be part of their events (unless I was a celebrity in need of a PR boost).

Aside from the birthday party for the youngest at their U.K. home? 🤔

AmbushedByCake · 10/06/2022 12:44

I just looked it up out of curiosity. Apparently they flew privately on a Bombardier Global 6000, I presume they were fully catered for as well. They flew from a private airfield, and were probably chauffeured to it and had people to carry all their luggage around. It's a whole different world to regular person air travel.

LondonQueen · 10/06/2022 12:45

Harry and Meghan are hardly going to want to stay here where half the country hates them are they,

3amAndImStillAwake · 10/06/2022 12:46

Really? You think they lied about their daughter meeting the queen, and lied about the Frogmore birthday party and where the pictures were taken? That would be a little risky, it relies on no disgruntled family members saying "actually, there was no party and the queen never met Lilibet".

It would be quite insane of them.

PAFMO · 10/06/2022 12:39

Quite!

My MIL reckons that they went home early in a huff because none of the RF would attend their daughter's 1st birthday party, due to prior jubilee commitments. According to her, that huff is why they didn't go to the lunch after the service at St Paul's, too.

I asked how she knew all this and apparently it's common knowledge.🙄

NoSquirrels · 10/06/2022 12:49

Because they’ll be hounded by the press, and whatever they do and say scrutinised.

Pretty sure any of their mates who want a catch up are not short of a bob or two for flights and don’t need to beg time off from their bosses. They can fly out for a holiday with the Sussexes and have a catch up.

The problem is, OP, that you think they’re normal folk ‘just like us’.

Nothing against them, I don’t really care either way, but I think it’s odd you think they have the same concerns as the rest of us!

itsgettingweird · 10/06/2022 12:50

Do we actually know how long they were here and that they left after 4 days?

I know we get told stuff.

But I remember M and H visited a few weeks before and no one knew they were here until 'spotted' (accidentally or not!)

I sometimes wonder if we get told different dates to spare us from the media stuff, keep the privacy they want and what they do is actually different?!

Lindy2 · 10/06/2022 12:51

I imagine that the reality of realising no one in their own family now trusts them enough to want to have a conversation with them, has started to sink in.

Harry is also used to being adored by crowds. Yes, he had cheers but there were boos too and he wasn't able to have his own way with things like photos with the Queen. His own grandmother is unable to trust his motives.

I imagine he is going through a pretty uncomfortable thought process. A little late but I don't believe Harry was ever renowned for his quick intellect. He's gone back to the US to sulk.

Money is no object and neither has a proper job (despite claiming to be financially adrift) so he and Meghan can indulge their own wants in terms of travel and when and where they go.

CarburyChocolateRules · 10/06/2022 12:52

They mostly come to actually spend time with the queen out of the limelight and they done just that

EmeraldShamrock1 · 10/06/2022 12:53

For the sake of answering.

They weren't welcome by many.

The media would have followed their every move.

They'd be accused of looking for attention.

They can't stand the inlaws.

They don't like the food.

They made the right decision IMO the British press are savages, they came quietly and left quickly yet the extreme threads won't stop.

Yes life must be very tough travelling with only a fleet of staff and several nannies to help you drag to tetchy toddlers around.

SqueakyShoe · 10/06/2022 12:55

They wanted some fodder for their Netflix contract, didn't get it, and flounced.

No cameras allowed when meeting the Queen. Threw a birthday party but major royals were busy.

So nothing for Netflix, but if he has an even bigger axe to grind, perhaps there will be some more big royal reveals Harry's upcoming tell all book.

Apart from wanting to have that private time filmed and photographed for Netflix but being told no.

Vapeyvapevape · 10/06/2022 12:56

I'm sure if they wanted to meet family or friends for a proper catch up this would have been arranged before they came over .
