To not understand why the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk only came over for 4 days?

I just find this really odd. To fly all that way then only stay 4 days? Surely they had other family to visit, could have made a bit of a holiday of it. I can&t imagine 2 long flights with toddlers that close together - it would be exhausting!

From what I just read, there were concerns they had hidden mics to record interactions with the RF for their alleged Netflix reality show

This has been mentioned several times now, but it's often best not to believe everything we read.
If it did turn out to be true, I don't even want to think what it would do to their relationship with the RF going forward ...

Op you have too much time on your hands, if this is occupying your thoughts.

Maybe I do? I was just curious. A 4 day trip with a long flight and kids would kill me!

They probably didn't want to use up too much annual leave, they're saving it for a summer holiday. Grin

😉

The royal family are well aware that H,&M cannot be trusted not to repeat any conversation that were had and use it for another money making scheme.

They probably were wired the whole time they were here

Meghan kept playing with her collar during the service maybe there was a hidden camera and mike concealed

Pmsl!

The whole thing was televised, unless she had a super-sensitive microphone that could pick up someone clearing their throat or letting out a not quite silent fart, what would be the point of that?

TheKeatingFive · 10/06/2022 21:27

letting out a not quite silent fart

well that's quality material right there 😂

There's a very particular type of demographic who absolutely despise Meghan. They actually spit bile when she comes up. Not a week goes by without another faux 'Oh I wonder xyz about the Sussexes' thread because Mumsnet is made up of this type of demographic. I find it fascinating and grotesque in equal measure.

See, I find this fascinating. You seem to suggest I absolutely despise Meghan and that my question is 'faux'. But neither is true.

Do you need the difference between televised and a microphone spelled out? Seriously?! A microphone picks up close conversation.

They don't fly like us, the nip about on private jets so they can do it as often as they please.

They offset their carbon footprint by preaching to us about reducing travel and thinking of the environment.

I'd just dropped by to say the same thing. Hypocrites.

UndertheCedartree · 10/06/2022 21:35

lemmein · 10/06/2022 17:33

Whenever H&M are mentioned there's a significant number of Mumsnetter's who are incapable of independent thought - it's fascinating.

You don't know these people - every tiny bit of info you think you know has been carefully curated to portray whatever narrative they want you to believe, whether that's palace sources, media loud-mouths, or even H&M themselves - it's all pretend, just a story. The bizarre thing is, everyone who repeats these stories knows that - yet will still repeat it as fact.

We are encouraged to participate in hating this woman, for what? Why are people so willing to swallow the Madonna-Whore, Saint-Sinner shit the (mainly male) commentators want you to believe? BADDDDD Meghan, SAINTLY Kate 🙄 They're probably both decent people who are occasionally arseholes, like the rest of us.

Who cares why they left after 4 days, like seriously, why do you care? This is Mumsnet, surely it's not that difficult to understand why spending longer than 4 days with the in-laws is challenging?

It's all very depressing - I don't particularly care if people hate Meghan (I'm sure she doesn't either!) but the narrative constantly repeated on here from the Daily Mail makes me sad that we will probably have a Tory government for the rest of my life. People believe what the media tell them to, that is depressing.

I never said I cared why they left after 4 days. I said I didn't understand it. That's a big difference. Look I'm no fan of hanging out with the parents/parent in laws but I like seeing my cousin's/cousin in laws and other family and friends. But I also need time to relax and the thought of doing it in 4 days makes me feel ill! And I'm no Tory either!

So Op you wanted them to stay longer? Or you didn't want them here at all?

Neither. I didn't understand why they only came for 4 days.

Only on MN!

Millions of thr4ads on here conpliaijing about in laws and spending time with them. Yet Meghan doesn't want to spend time with hers (the socially awkward law in father who causes her husband such generational pain!, the ill & stoic grandmother, the golden child and the weird creepy uncle, plus others who clearly don't like her) and people fail to understand it!!!!

I'm not a fan of hers but I totally get the short visit.

I didn't say I didn't understand them not wanting to see the RF for more than 4 days, I said I didn't understand them coming over for only 4 days. As in because it was a long flight and because I thought they would want to see other family and friends plus some downtime. When I go to visit abroad I don't spend every day with the same people.

You're never going to know - and it's not anyone's business but there's.

I think we don't really need to speculate and to do so is to be a bit unfair to them. Presumably, they had their own 'truth' , when they did those interviews, and may be feeling now that the old 'least said, soonest mended' adage is true, but whatever, it's going to be slightly awkward visiting Harry's extended family, when these cousins, etc. are going to be getting more and more irrelevant as royals, because if Andrew, passing times and changing priorities...and yes because the RF has been rubbished a bit on

It was more a general wondering about people flying long haul to visit friends and family for only 4 days, than a very specific why exactly did these exact people do this with absolute certainty - because as you say obviously we can't know that!

I have no idea if half the country hate them. But why would they care. It doesn't affect them in the privacy of their house.

Similarly to Internet bullying it cannot physically harm you inside of your house, doesn't make it less unpleasant.

Obviously I have no idea if they care, I'd assume they do as the headlines drove them out of the country.

The British public cancelled their netflix subscriptions in droves over their show.

Ah, right. I didn't know that.

There was every need for the Oprah interview. Every need. Just as there was every need for the world to see the George Floyd video. Gaslighting about people’s experience with racism is what is confusing, damaging and must not be allowed to happen anymore.

Expose it. No one is too precious to be exposed for furthering institutional racism.

The interview was necessary and good. Not good for racists or those who lean that way but definitely good for Meghan and victims of racism, often perpetrated by the most sacred and respected institutions in our society. Victims are more often than not ostracised for speaking up.

As Stephen Fry recently said, Britain is kidding itself about its deep seated racist society.

I agree about racism. But I did find the interview confusing because it didn't seem to expose much but just hint at things. I couldn't really follow it atall. There was the bit about them having already married in their garden but you can't get married in a garden in England.

Lilibet had a birthday party in the UK on a day when various members of the RF were out and about on duty. The Tindalls and Princess Anne for eg were at the Derby before attending the Jubilee concert. I think if any of the family were at the party it probably would have only been the York girls with their babies and perhaps the Phillips and Tindall children with a nanny.

That would have been nice for the cousins to be together.

They clearly did not want to stay longer so unsure why you're 'surprised'..

And you have NO idea who they saw in that time..

Well, I have more idea about that than whether they wanted to stay longer. I can't read their minds so no idea on their thoughts about staying longer, however I did see pictures/film of them seeing certain people, so yes I have some idea!

Why would I want to 'bring them up'? I wanted to bring up the topic of travelling long haul for 4 days. And surely half the threads on MN are because people are 'bored' or idly wondering about things. I'm not ashamed of that!

So what? I do 4 day long haul trips for events from London to LA every year. So what? None of your business why I go for tbst long or what I'm doing or whether its enough time.

And I really don't care why you go for that long, what you're doing or whether it's enough time..

It's hardly the same situation I'm discussing, though is it! And as I have now said for the umpteenth time I don't care that the Sussex's did a 4 day long haul trip to visit family with their kids - I just didn't understand it. However, plenty of helpful posters have filled me in!

Why does my pondering offend you so much!
