To not understand why the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk only came over for 4 days?

I just find this really odd. To fly all that way then only stay 4 days? Surely they had other family to visit, could have made a bit of a holiday of it. I can&t imagine 2 long flights with toddlers that close together - it would be exhausting!

If they'd stayed for 2 weeks, you'd be starting a thread called Why Are The Sussex's Hanging Around When the Jubilee Is over?
😂😂😂

I wouldn't!

They did what they came to do.

I do wonder if they have regrets. They didn't want to leave the RF altogether but they couldn't find a compromise. I think if they'd just given it more time the dust and media frenzy would have settled (as it did with Catherine) but they weren't prepared to sit back and take any of it.

There was absolutely no need for the Oprah interview though and that's what's tipped it for many people. If they'd just left they would still be much lived but their accusations burnt the bridges.

The Oprah interview was very confusing.

Do they have news media where you live?

Yes

They have probably been
Back and forth seeing family the whole time. We are all played by the media.

I hadn't thought of that!

Like the rest of the royals, they have nannies and are able to travel by private jet. Really not that arduous.

Also, if you're a multimillionaire you can pop across the Atlantic any time you want. They don't have to worry about making the most of their air fare by combining holidays with family visits. They lived in England for some time, so I don't really see why they'd choose it as a holiday destination.

On a practical note, there are also security issues for them in this country because they no longer have armed police protection like the rest of the royals and private security teams aren't allowed to carry guns and don't have the same powers to deal with incidents that royal protection officers do, so I'd imagine they feel a bit less safe here than they do elsewhere.

I see, thank you

Ooooh look, another wide-eyed post to bring out the Megan haterz.

I've said nothing about hating Megan. I was just wondering why they only came for 4 days. I suppose I'm curious about how 'the other half live'. Why would I hate someone I don't even know. And no, not wide eyed but autistic, which maybe makes me seem like that.

It’s been widely reported that various royal cousins have been to California to spend time with the Sussexes and they’ve met in other US locations, not to mention the multiple times they could have met under the radar.

Oh, that's nice.

There was every need for the Oprah interview. Every need. Just as there was every need for the world to see the George Floyd video. Gaslighting about people’s experience with racism is what is confusing, damaging and must not be allowed to happen anymore.

Expose it. No one is too precious to be exposed for furthering institutional racism.

The interview was necessary and good. Not good for racists or those who lean that way but definitely good for Meghan and victims of racism, often perpetrated by the most sacred and respected institutions in our society. Victims are more often than not ostracised for speaking up.

As Stephen Fry recently said, Britain is kidding itself about its deep seated racist society.

Because it was just a short visit? Why does anyone only go anyway where for a short weekend?

Because you can't get more time off work? Because you can't afford it? Because it is only a couple of hours away? But none of that applies to this trip.

Well I dunno maybe they didn’t want to stay in the country too long that basically booted them out.

The Duke of Suffolk was executed for treason in 1554. He was the father of Lady Jane Grey.

Ah, thanks for that! Oops, I meant the Sussex's. My brain takes the first letter and comes up with the wrong thing sometimes!

They got booed at the ceremony. Why would they stay longer than necessary? They couldn't do right for doing wrong no matter what they did. If they'd not come they'd have been slated for ignoring Harry's granny. They came and got booed and people asked why they bothered and why they were invited. Now you're saying they should have stayed longer. They can't do anything right, so I really hope they just did what they pleased and what suited them.

I'm not saying they should have stayed longer. I just wondered why they didn't. I can't imagine caring what strangers thought of my plans I would have just done what I wanted.

Various? Or was it just one of the York girls who met up with them when she was in the states on business?

Funnily enough no! I am not on close terms with them, in fact I've never even met them!

How do you know how long the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stayed who told you have you got inside info or do you just want to be nasty over folks you don't know and have never met......very odd

Why is being curious, being nasty? I only know because of what was reported.

I’m shocked by how many on MN are also voracious tabloid readers.

Why? I see the love of tabloids as a general UK thing.

Really? I think that is so mean.

And we know how long they were here exactly... how?
They get a lot of bad press because they left the country to get away from bad press... Neither M or H will ever do anything right because the papers/sm/mn will find something wrong with it.

I should imagine it's also due to their court case against the home office. If they are saying they don't feel safe over here, then they can hardly hang around can they? That's why they could only be at places where the senior royals were, to get the private protection that they think they need.

I see.

I thought other family went over for Lili's party.

Lilibet had a birthday party in the UK on a day when various members of the RF were out and about on duty. The Tindalls and Princess Anne for eg were at the Derby before attending the Jubilee concert. I think if any of the family were at the party it probably would have only been the York girls with their babies and perhaps the Phillips and Tindall children with a nanny.

Maybe they had commitments this week? Who knows it is their business. I am a republican but to be honest some of the vitriol written about individual members of the royal family is awful, even four year old children and babies. Don't get me started on the tabloids and their so called experts.

While the operation of the monarchy is tax payer funded, it doesn't give the right to know every detail of their lives.

I don't really read all that stuff as it is basically all speculation. I don't feel the need to know every detail of their lives. I was just curious about only staying 4 days. When I visit family abroad I'd never just go for 4 days as it would be so full on with no chance to relax. But as many have pointed out I don't have a private jet or nanny!

They all fly long distances for short visits. In 2019 William flew to New Zealand for one night. He did not make a holiday of it.

It would be crazy for an ordinary person to fly economy and pay a lot of money to fly to New Zealand for one night. But on a private jet with amazing food and drink and some good books I can imagine it would be quite enjoyable.

New Zealand for one night?! Wow!

YABU to start yet another goady Sussexes' thread. No-one knows their schedule and actually despite the best attempts of the tabloids and the social media trolls, I don't think anyone really cares where they are or what they do.

It's not goady atall. I was just curious and I have learnt a lot.
