Winner's podium of an 'inclusive' 'women's' cycling race.
Biological woman is third.

I'm sick of women's concerns being cast aside because they make (some) other people feel uncomfortable. Again, a patriarchal thing that is. Woman STFU is basically what you are saying IMHO.

What @flashbac said.

glamosaurus · 04/06/2022 23:28

Got it, thanks @HermioneKipper that makes sense (unfortunately!)

Need2P · 04/06/2022 23:31

I'm yet to see transgender men (originally female) competing against biological men. It just seems the athletes changing their gender are never in disadvantage 🙄

Justlettuce · 04/06/2022 23:56

How is this patriarchal when patriarchy is against the gender agenda? In patriarchy men would never compete in the same category as women because they believe men and women are biologically different.

Thelnebriati · 04/06/2022 23:57

No, in patriarchy women don't get to compete. We've only had female sports for a few decades.

Peoniesandpeaches · 04/06/2022 14:40

And where is your AIBU? If there is no question or poll why couldn’t you post this on the feminism board? I’m really sick of all this crap being on the front page.

I'm sick of all of this crap too. It's high time that fair play resumed in sport.

FOJN · 05/06/2022 00:47

How is this patriarchal when patriarchy is against the gender agenda?

Patriarchy loves gender stereotypes; masculine alpha males and the submissive feminine mother and housewife who puts her children and husband before herself.

Patriarchy is allowing men to destroy women's sport by letting them compete in female categories and claim, with a straight face and supreme confidence, they have no advantage. Winning and being validated is everything, fuck women.

Transmen generally get far less attention and special privileges, I wonder why? Could it be the patriarchy recognises their sex?

madasawethen · 05/06/2022 04:05

Men just can't stop hogging the spotlight can they.

It's gone on for centuries.

They've discovered a new way to stick it to woman. Just erase them.

itsgettingweird · 05/06/2022 06:27

Thing is this case it isn't men.

It's a subset if men of think they are woman or identify as woman.

And the sporting bodies allowing this to mean they complete unfairly against biological woman.

It hammers it home when a few weeks ago Emily was hailed a hero for her part in the mens team winning gold at the BUCS cycling championships. She was clearly considered biologically enough male to compete for them and obviously is biologically male enough to be good enough.

Then a few weeks later she is considered aligned enough with 'cis' woman to compete against them.

For me it seems less about erasing woman and more about how the term woman has become something that can be used to advantage males in sport.

It's about the winning more than identify or gender now. Imo if Emily feels she's a woman she wouldn't want to be competing on the mens team. If she believed she was a woman she wouldn't believe she was string enough or biologically able to compete on the mens team.

The fact Emily competes for both just proves (IMO) that they understand the advantage a male puberty has given them.

same thing, in practice.

WarriorN · 05/06/2022 07:20

The real winner is apparently happy for this to happen.

Welcome to the brave new world of mens and transgender sports.

WarriorN · 05/06/2022 07:25

Any word from the women placed 4 and 5?

Slothtoes · 05/06/2022 07:55

Ugh this is all so sexist!
Why should men get to win everything in sport? Why should men get to put women off pursuing competitive physical fitness?
Why should men get to snatch away sports career opportunities solely available to women?
Nobody's threatening men’s single sex sports, are they? Elite or community level. So how is this fair?

Why can’t trans or non binary people make their own gender identity competitions and categories and then crack on with that? Everyone knows you can’t actually change biological sex. However much you might like to.

Slothtoes · 05/06/2022 08:10

Womens sports are women-only, for lots of good sporting reasons, safeguarding reasons and social reasons. Male single-sex sports are not threatened by any of this.

Transmen (biological women who identity as men) are still biologically women. Even if they compete in single-sex male sporting categories, or take testosterone or not, transmen won’t win. Transmen won’t make other women feel uncomfortable in the changing rooms or showers either.

Men are always typically bigger and stronger than women. Male physical advantage persists: whatever gender identity views are held or female hormones are or are not taken.
Men are the typical perpetrators of sexual harassment, sexual violence and assault. We all know this. Male offending patterns continue however men gender-identify.

It’s taken women generations of work to build up girls’ and women’s grassroots and elite sporting competitions and categories and funding and facilities. Nobody has voted to just give away women’s sports to men for free. Hmm

SouthernFashionista · 05/06/2022 08:14

Jo Smith has since tweeted to say there’s no problem with any of this. 🙄 It’s like the Handmaid’s Tale. Ridiculous.

WarriorN · 05/06/2022 08:18

Apparently 10 out of the 12 prizes went to males? Can anyone confirm?

WarriorN · 05/06/2022 08:19

To clarify, there were 12 prizes across the mens and womens categories. 10 went to males. (According to a tweet but obviously that's second hand info.)

I'm so angry about this and the trans agenda pushing the womens agenda further down.

How is this patriarchal when patriarchy is against the gender agenda? In patriarchy men would never compete in the same category as women because they believe men and women are biologically different.

It’s not a belief that there are biological differences between men and women, it’s a fact.

Equality is not treating everyone the same (as Equality law in the UK is clear), but means making reasonable adjustments to make things more equal where differences and disadvantage exists between groups of people. Such as having races based on sex. A simplistic application of ‘inclusion’ does not meet equality principles.

So yes, patriarchy is refusing to recognize the physical differences between males and females in sport, and opening women’s races to males.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 05/06/2022 08:29

jo smith may be happy to be beaten by men in womens races but she does not get to consent on behalf of all women cyclists

Badqueen · 05/06/2022 08:33

Presumably anyone who entered the race knew it was gender inclusive and were happy to enter on that basis. It's pretty insulting to suggest that the woman in third place is only "going along with it" in case she gets death threats. Maybe she just disagrees with you. Maybe she was, shock horror, actually happy to enter an inclusive race. The categories are called thunder and lightning, not men and women. You all call for spaces where trans people can compete, someone created one, and that's still not good enough.

If you're going to lose your mind over males competing against females, perhaps you should actually check what event you're getting so worked up about because this one was clearly, deliberately mixed gender.

SpindleForTheWorld · 05/06/2022 08:35

You mean mixed sex.

Badqueen · 05/06/2022 08:38

Call it mixed sex if you want. Same thing. It's still clear what the race was about.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 05/06/2022 08:39

Gender and sex are not the same thing

Badqueen · 05/06/2022 08:49

.... So? What's your point in the context of this race? It's clear that both sexes could enter either category depending on their gender. So what?
