Winner's podium of an 'inclusive' 'women's' cycling race.
Biological woman is third.

This photo makes me so sad and angry, I know girls who are being put off competitive sport now.

There was a great thread on Twitter about this earlier - gender is the new religion and it allows men to ride roughshod over women (and children) in the same way every patriarchal religion has since the dawn of time. The thread was in the form of a poem (I think). Very clever and astute.

lifeinthelastlane · 04/06/2022 19:08

Are there are races now that are actually not inclusive races? It's all very well saying women knew what they were getting into, but is there a lot of choice?
we are talking a lot about the woman who came first, but we should also consider the women who would have come 2nd and 3rd, as they aren't even on the podium at all.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 04/06/2022 19:12

Men should never be allowed to compete in womens sport. I couldn't care less if they decide to put on a dress one day and go by a female name, they still aren't one and still have biological advantages.

Yes - the mens races.

They are purely biological men. Although technically no one's ever stopped a trans man competing in them they don't because of the biological difference.

In fact in swimming where Lia Thomas competes in the woman's category there is a trans man who also competes as a woman. He is a biological woman but has actually started to physically transition and has had a double mastectomy.

I don't see how the sporting bodies completely miss the fact that it's only trans woman who choose to switch sex category and yet deny that there's any reason for speedster sex categories.

In swimming - for example - a trans woman can have testosterone level of 4 something.

A biological woman competing in the woman's category must be below 1.7 - or they are banned for doping.

The fact that facts and biology and genetics are ignored in favour of someone's decision of who they are is completely undermining the purpose of sport.

There are plenty of children who train for hours on athletics tracks, in swimming pools, in gymnasiums alongside their peers who never make elite sport because they don't have the right muscle twitch or whatever.

Yet men aren't held to the same level of expectation. They can just become Anne from down the road and compete against woman. Angry

That's what we girlies do, isn't it? Kiss each other all the time, giggle, and compare our nipple colours?

You forgot pillow fights. And asking strangers in the ladies for advice on tampons.

Oh, sorry - I was so busy tilting my head girlishly and twirling my dress that those slipped my mind.

Yes, inclusive should be just that, rather than everyone except biological men.

Banning "male" and "female" categories altogether was mentioned recently during an interview with that other trans identifying male cyclist - the fat one - Veronica Ivy, Racheal McKinnon - whatever he's calling himself now - he was apoplectic! No! Can't do that. Tat's not fair! He's a wumman! He's entitled to compete against other wummins! That's what's fair!

Having a race that the mens could be in, too - how unfair is that?

He even forgot how to "talk like a girl" 😄

TiM aren't interested in fairness, or even in having their own categories in sporting competitions. They want two things - validation, and power. If they can force other people to acknowledge their "femininity", then they have won.

Do you actually know anyone trans? Is anyone in your family or a close friend trans?

itsgettingweird · 04/06/2022 19:52

Emotional 😭🤣 I could actually picture that by the way you worded it.

Would be great to watch if you have a link.

And it really does prove that their issue is mostly not competing against biological males.

It was on the radio - I'll have a search, but I'm not much good at tech so don't hold your breath.

Not sure if it's the interview this thread is about - if it wasn't this interview it was a very similar one.

RM/VI/whoever was doing the rounds at the time, I think

Yes. Is this relevant to sport?

Is there a point to your enquiry or are you just making conversation? But to answer your question yes I do know some trans people. I'll wait to hear what difference that is supposed to make to my opinion on fairness in sport.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 04/06/2022 20:26

@orwellwasright yes thanks. What’s that got to do with biological men in womens sports?

itsgettingweird · 04/06/2022 20:50

And fwiw I also know some trans people.

They don't agree biological males should compete as females.

They want to be able to take part in sport but want to compete fairly.

They agree with me about a third category.

XingMing · 04/06/2022 20:54

Has anyone here heard of the concept of handicapping? In horse racing and sailing it has been used for centuries to level the field so the entrants start on a levelled basis. It rates for height and weight, race experience and past performance.

stitchy · 04/06/2022 21:00

What is it about people with cocks that makes them so good at women's sport?

How are they not embarrassed to take women's prizes? Where is imposter syndrome when it's actually justified?

WOMEN WITH COCKS, YOU BIGOT!

dies of self inflicted sarcasm overload

Stella Creasy would be so disappointed in you.

I agree, its all about winning.

Couldn't win as a male gonna win as a woman.

This sucks. I actually campaigned for years for equality in cycling, from when I raced and the mens race winner got £500, and the female winner got a cake. But this is not at all what I meant by equality.

from the notes on categories in the thunder crit website

Cis-people cannot choose their racing category. Cis-men will race in the Thunder category, cis-women will race in the Lightning category.

Lightning Category

This category is for:

Cis-women
Non-binary people whose physical performance aligns with cis-women
Trans men and women whose physical performance aligns most closely with cis-women

So men get their own special category, because men’s sport is serious. But women are lumped in with anyone else who wants to compete against women, because who cares?

We had more rights back in the 1970s, when we were fighting for women’s liberation. We won a lot, but it’s been bulldozed over the past few years.

Ah, no to be fair I only quoted the Lightening category. The Thunder category is for

cis-men
Non-binary people whose physical performance aligns with cis-men
Trans men and women whose physical performance aligns most closely with cis-men

And where is your AIBU? If there is no question or poll why couldn’t you post this on the feminism board? I’m really sick of all this crap being on the front page.

Just scroll on by then.

I'd love to see those blokes compete against other blokes

Emily was still competing against men until a few months ago and was not only competitive but was part of a 'male' team setting records.

Funnily enough they only started to transition once their funding on the GB team stopped.

Do you know why their funding stopped?

HermioneKipper · 04/06/2022 23:16

glamosaurus · 04/06/2022 23:07

Do you know why their funding stopped?

Because they weren’t up there with the elite men.

conveniently transitioned after that …. And funnily enough was good enough to compete with the elite women. Fancy that
