Winner's podium of an 'inclusive' 'women's' cycling race.
Biological woman is third.

Welcome to the new (old) world. Its wonderful, full of skippy unicorns and butterflies and rainbows.

GCAcademic · 04/06/2022 14:18

How progressive.

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 04/06/2022 14:19

That's horrendous. I thought cycling had stopped that?

Redouble · 04/06/2022 14:19

What a world. :(

I mean, look at the physical advantages the people in first and second place have... are people celebrating this wilfully blind or what.

Saw this on twitter this morning - deplorable.

jacintaq · 04/06/2022 14:24

I'm not sure what's wrong?

Is it that she has her child with her on the podium, as otherwise isn't it a good thing that women are allowed to compete in the races with men?

jacintaq · 04/06/2022 14:25

Oh Blush

jacintaq · 04/06/2022 14:25

That's really not fair is it.

SpindleForTheWorld · 04/06/2022 14:26

I mean, what's the bloody point?

SpindleForTheWorld · 04/06/2022 14:27

Given the batshit logic of this, maybe the gold and silver medals are currently gestating in a box.

Grin Really sums things up beautifully

Redouble · 04/06/2022 14:28

So will competitive sports just become pointless for biological women? It's so disheartening.

Theluggage15 · 04/06/2022 14:29

@jacintaq you’re not sure what’s wrong with men competing in women’s races?

🤣

I'm an idiot. I realised immediately after I pressed post.

Pointless and sometimes dangerous Redouble

Read my other posts. I thought it was inclusive as in male/female race!

Forestgate · 04/06/2022 14:32

Depressing. Who allowed this? Is there a petition we can sign against it?

jacintaq · 04/06/2022 14:33

But yes, it is unfair. The real winner placed third I see.

iwanttobeasquare · 04/06/2022 14:35

It makes me so angry to see this. Pure hateful misogyny.

flashbac · 04/06/2022 14:36

Men taking all the glory while women are left holding the baby. Some things never bloody change...

TheFoxAndTheStar · 04/06/2022 14:36

This sucks. I actually campaigned for years for equality in cycling, from when I raced and the mens race winner got £500, and the female winner got a cake. But this is not at all what I meant by equality.

from the notes on categories in the thunder crit website

Cis-people cannot choose their racing category. Cis-men will race in the Thunder category, cis-women will race in the Lightning category.

Lightning Category

This category is for:

Cis-women
Non-binary people whose physical performance aligns with cis-women
Trans men and women whose physical performance aligns most closely with cis-women

flashbac · 04/06/2022 14:37

Jo Smith, with the baby, is the real winner.

Impier · 04/06/2022 14:37

I've completed where my team has had an unfair advantage over the other teams. As a team we decided to concede our semifinal win so the right teams played in the final. In a similar way I would have hoped for more sportsman like behaviour from the first and second place cyclists in this photo, and for them to let the real competitors in the race past to take the podium positions.

There really isn't any glory in winning when the odds are stacked overwhelmingly in your favour.
