Winner's podium of an 'inclusive' 'women's' cycling race.
Biological woman is third.

I despair

Kylereese · 04/06/2022 17:02

These men are so rubbish at their sport against other men they have to turn into women who they know they have a biological scientific advantage over to win.

Pathetic.

YANBU - totally unfair.

This sucks. I actually campaigned for years for equality in cycling, from when I raced and the mens race winner got £500, and the female winner got a cake. But this is not at all what I meant by equality.

from the notes on categories in the thunder crit website

Cis-people cannot choose their racing category. Cis-men will race in the Thunder category, cis-women will race in the Lightning category.

Lightning Category

This category is for:

Cis-women
Non-binary people whose physical performance aligns with cis-women
Trans men and women whose physical performance aligns most closely with cis-women

What does that even mean ‘physical performance most aligns with cis women’. How do they measure that? Against what criteria? What does ‘most’ mean? Why not ‘completely aligns?’ Given first and second place has gone to trans athletes, does that mean trans competitors are over represented on the winning podium? If so, does this cause the organizers to reconsider whether their policy is proportionate and fair to women ( with female bodies) cyclists?

BatDuck · 04/06/2022 17:06

I have to say it’s quite sweet for them to have a snog on the podium however my lesbian friends are furious that the winner (Emily Bridges) was on a recent cover of DIVA magazine when they are not a lesbian or a woman.

And where is your AIBU? If there is no question or poll why couldn’t you post this on the feminism board? I’m really sick of all this crap being on the front page.

Because woman’s rights are human rights and not a specialized sub-interest?

So 2 gay guys decide to become 2 gay women and then they win the women’s bike race? Such a travesty on the actual woman who won the race, but got placed 3rd!!!!!

I don't understand why these biological men aren't embarrassed to be on the podium. The only competition there was between the men who were awarded first and second, but in a women's race. The only real woman in that race didn't stand a chance. Do they think its an achievement to be faster than a person half their size and weight. It's laughable.

Exactly this. How can they possibly have any sense of achievement??
Surely they would feel no more pride than we would if we beat our 6 yr olds in a running race. (Not comparing women to children btw. Just the imbalance if physical attributes!)

Its not about being good at their sport. Its about society bending to accommodate them as women, thus enabling them to be the best at womanly things: so that they are better at being women than women are.

Of course, if they were really good at being women, if they were as good at being women as the 'nice, intersectional 'real 'feminists' are, as the 'trans friendly female allies' are, they would not be racing at all. They would instead be saying, 'No, no, you first, I couldn't possibly impose myself at this race. That would not be fair at all. No, no, you first.' But they don't seem to want to adopt the self-sacrificing, stepping-aside-and-putting-others-before yourself part of female socialisation into their womanhood.

DuckDuckNo · 04/06/2022 17:27

Maybe it's time for sport to divide along lines of "biological male" and "biological female" instead of "men" and "women"

Then again, trans women are already claiming to be biological females. Apparently because they're biological, and they're female.

bloodyunicorns · 04/06/2022 17:28

Just shows you can't trust Bridges: their performance most aligns with men's performance, considering they won a men's BUCS cycling event only a few months ago. 🙄 Cheat.

Oh but men can be lesbians now and they get quite angry upset when lesbian women don’t fancy them 🤨

maddy68 · 04/06/2022 17:34

I'm looking at this pic and then looking at the comments and o have no idea what you're on about. One has a baby in their hands and the other competitors ( 1+2 ) are congratulating each other. , I'm pretty certain that a moment before or after this pic they were congratulating no 3 too

@jacintaq Love the posting of the thought process 🤣 and posters wilfully ignoring your second and third posts 🤣.
DD8 is incredibly athletically gifted but there is no way I'd encorage her to take her talents further than hobby level as what is the point now?

HermioneKipper · 04/06/2022 17:36

This is an absolute disgrace.

Ive never agreed women should boycott before but now they have to. There’s no other choice.

the ones in power refuse to protect them so it’s now the last resort.

im so angry on these women’s behalf.

those other two are nothing but cheaters

Agree with PPs. Can I just say, though, that I think most men are just as horrified by this as we are? DH and DS both work in sport and they are equally concerned at the impact this is having on women and girls' sport – they see it at grassroots level as well as elite, where girls are starting to wonder what is the point in competing. We are sacrificing women and girls' sport on the alter of some notion of needing to be 'fair'.
