That beauty ‘trends’ are trying to make us all look like sex dolls?

Montuaklighthouse · 24/04/2022 19:37

As the subject line says - beauty standards / trends are just so… Unprogressive? Is that a word?

Huge exaggerated eyes with flicked eye-liner, contoured to death cheeks and tiny noses and overdrawn lips that look ready for a porn-shoot BJ (or lip-filler if you can afford it). Almost all young women have long hair as well, no interesting hairstyles.

Obviously I’m generalising, but it’s just so fucking boring. The Kardashians have a lot to answer for.

Fake big lips on white women are such a bizarre fetish of black women. And the idea big lips are "porn star lips" is a pile of crap for those of us born with them.

Exactly. I’m black with big lips and that was a pretty offensive remark.

Neverreturntoathread · 24/04/2022 23:30

Yep.

When our teenage babysitters come round I have to fight really hard to keep a straight face. Their face looks like a Halloween joke pron star. The sad thing is they were so beautiful before they discovered make up.

RoomOfRequirement · 24/04/2022 23:30

This is such an awful thread.

Neverreturntoathread · 24/04/2022 23:32

I wanna blame porn but I actually think companies like Disney have a lot to answer for. Their female faces are bizarre. Look at the size of the female noses and eyes in say Frozen and then compare to the male characters. It’s quite disturbing the look little girls are taught to aspire to.

MMBaranova · 24/04/2022 23:37

>The sad thing is they were so beautiful before...

A professional colleague who I see perhaps twice a month has moved from a fairly normal zone appearance to a makeover that just exaggerates a number of things. Fair enough, but the lip work is extreme and the startled look a bit unsettling. I can understand the method for the lips, but the startled look is quite a mix that I'm not sure how he does. I don't yet have the courage to ask.

balancebeam · 24/04/2022 23:41

I haven't seen the Amish look.

I also want to know what's wrong with long hair. Do you mean extensions?, I see a lot of those or that bayalage hair in the same colours. Every other person seems to have it.

D0lphine · 24/04/2022 23:43

When do we think natural beauty will come back?

Surely the next generation will rebel against the "done done" look?

ThreeLittleDots · 24/04/2022 23:44

It's as if the irony of drag is entirely lost on these girls

balancebeam · 24/04/2022 23:47

Ohilovetorave · 24/04/2022 23:24

It's too sad and no we didn't look like this in the 80's, no one was injecting their lips I can bet you

Collagen rather than hyaluronic acid

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/04/2022 22:49

Yeah but that's just bollocks that some man thought up to explain why women like lipstick. If attractiveness was linked to vulval appearance, we'd be growing beards.

This is hilarious and so true

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 24/04/2022 23:52

You talk about how misogynistic the beauty trends are but this thread is worse.

Blow job lips
Dressed like hookers
Teenager baby sitters that look like porn stars.
Sex dolls.

Is that what you have reduced women who have different make up styles to you as?

balancebeam · 25/04/2022 00:04

I don't like the metallic faces with shading, it's like Kryten from red dwarf. Usually with huge black eyebrows, 'foxy' style or brushed up vertically like a pipe cleaner.

Louise0701 · 25/04/2022 00:08

@Moochio I’m with you, this is very 2019-2020.

”now” is natural makeup, clear gloss lips, short gel nails and slicked back hair.

Overdon · 25/04/2022 00:35

I noticed my DS teacher had her lips done this week, it wasn’t too extreme , but you can always tell, . Thought she would have more sense and a little disappointed in her tbh. Ah well, her money, her face, I’m still haunted by the images of Leslie Ash and ( yes I’m V old) Ivy from Corrie!
I honestly think years from now many will regret such procedures.

doadeer · 25/04/2022 00:47

I don't think it's porn star look I think white women often try to look "racially ambiguous" so light skinned mixed race with some exaggerated features like lips (but no nose).

I have big lips and growing up they were always the biggest of any girls I knew, now I frequently see women with much bigger lips, it's still surprising to me after I was always teased for it.

doadeer · 25/04/2022 00:48

I do this the natural look and "glass skin" look are more popular in lots of cases now. Though it's still a hard to achieve look and frequently comes with many products.

MangyInseam · 25/04/2022 01:40

I think it comes in large part from people trying to make themselves look like their filtered pictures.

I am dubious of the lips= vulva thing. But I do think the fact that lips tend to redden during arousal may be part of the appeal of lipstick.

I always think of hemorrhoids when I see the puffed up lips.

This reminds me of the other day when I wanted to buy some mascara for daytime use, and I could only find one mascara that wasn't like 'SUPER FALSE EYELASH EFFECT MEGA GIANT THICK LASHES' in super blackest black. I just want something subtle to make my pale eyelashes visible when I'm wearing makeup for crying out loud!

I miss Almay grey mascara. Clarins may have done one as well Very subtle but I still looked as if I had lashes. I do use the YSL purple one. Not as harsh as black and a bit different. They also do brown. I bought 3 in Boots in the black Friday sale.

FlowerArranger · 25/04/2022 02:11

I don't know how women can expect to be taken seriously, in the workplace, in politics, in relationships with men, if they make themselves look like play dolls. Very sad.

DeeCeeCherry · 25/04/2022 02:12

Sounds like the 1960s to me.

  • they couldnt afford to bend over an inch in those mini skirts. If lip fillers were available back then theyd likely have been popular too.

I guess the older generation women back then were talking about young women disapprovingly in the way that you are now.

We have internet and forums now so a mass-bitching fest elders bemoaning youngers is more public.

I never look at young women and think 'sex doll', sex just doesnt enter my mind in that way.

I think these images are seen on TV then some people convince themselves that every young woman they know and see (do they include their own daughters & young female relatives or somehow, no?) looks a particular way. Which of course, isnt true. The media is insidious

SquirrelG · 25/04/2022 02:25

Frankly you all sound jealous, perhaps sore from a lifetime of being overlooked because you're as dull as dishwater. Sad little life you must have to be that invested in what others look like.

Jealous - you have got to be kidding! 😂😂 Also, if it came to a choice between being as "dull as dishwater" or looking as the OP described I know what I would choose.

Ticksallboxes · 25/04/2022 02:30

On Saturday we saw two young women, separately, that had had a lot of cosmetic surgery done quite badly - it was quite shocking.

What was most weird though was that they looked exactly the same, even though they weren't together. They looked like they'd had nose jobs, cheek implants and lip fillers and were heavily made up. They both looked like James Charles!

I wasn't just talking about your face.

Engorged Vulva - I'm sure they were a punk band
