That beauty ‘trends’ are trying to make us all look like sex dolls?

As the subject line says - beauty standards / trends are just so… Unprogressive? Is that a word?

Huge exaggerated eyes with flicked eye-liner, contoured to death cheeks and tiny noses and overdrawn lips that look ready for a porn-shoot BJ (or lip-filler if you can afford it). Almost all young women have long hair as well, no interesting hairstyles.

Obviously I’m generalising, but it’s just so fucking boring. The Kardashians have a lot to answer for.

It's a problem with any fashion whether it's makeup or clothes. However you don't have to follow the trend, just find something that suits you.
I think SM has a lot to blame with current trends everyone pouting and trying to look sexy in their Instagram.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 24/04/2022 20:56

I’m absolutely not a fan of the Porn Droid look but what’s wrong with long hair?!

Reallyreallyborednow · 24/04/2022 19:41

Yep. Hate it.

i lip read and can’t understand a word a lot of woman say now, so many have filler and it changes the way the mouth forms words.

to me as well natural is beautiful, and all that make up, botox and filler just hides a person behind a mask.

I had never thought of this, a lot of people I work with rely on lip reading 🧐

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/04/2022 21:02

Donkeys years ago I had a book by Desmond Morris and it detailed how make up qqenhances the sexual characteristics. It then went on to describe how lipstick subconsciously makes the lips look like an engorged vulva 😳 so that's all I can think of if I see those enlarged lips.

And now so do I 😂🙈

StScholastica · 24/04/2022 21:10

This is not really "new" though, it's similar to a look I remember from Duran Duran videos.
I met an ex colleague recently and genuinely didn't recognise her, she looked done to within an inch of her life and had that plastic surgery weird speech, that Paul McCartney has.
Such a shame as she was beautiful before.

On the plus side I've seen a lot of older teens rejecting this look and going for a more natural almost androgynous look.

This reminds me of the other day when I wanted to buy some mascara for daytime use, and I could only find one mascara that wasn't like 'SUPER FALSE EYELASH EFFECT MEGA GIANT THICK LASHES' in super blackest black. I just want something subtle to make my pale eyelashes visible when I'm wearing makeup for crying out loud!

possibly not in the spirit of the thread to recommend make up but benefit's tinted lash primer is really good, or just the natural collection brown/black mascaras for about 2 quid.
I think the look will probably become quite outdated very soon, every generation rebels against the one before it after all - thinking back of my generation in the early 00s completely overplucking our eyebrows then 10 years later the huge bushy brow came back. The Kardashian look has been a 'thing' for a decade now, so must be due a change. Generally a more toned down look has been happening with clothes over the last few years - see mom/baggy jeans rather than tight skinnies, wearing trainers even to go "out out" rather than heels etc so I expect make up will do something similar.

Yep - when I see lips like this it does make me think exactly that. Also some of them just look painful frankly. If they were kissed, they look like they'd simply pop like a balloon. 😬

Mamabananananana · 24/04/2022 21:31

Ach the 80s makeup was wild too! On BOTH sexes hahahaha
half of my friends have had botox or fillers , even though few of them follow fashion or even wear make up a lot ! I guess they see it as Maintenance?
photo shop is worse. Urgh!
all the "models" all getting the mad fox eye pulled up or the buccal( cheek) fat removed? Wild! Im always disappointed when a natural beauty turns out to have had work done.

none of the students around my bit wear makeup. Infact they seem to make a mission to look as rough as possible?

I’m a big fan of Chanel’s Inimitable mascara - I’m fortunate to have long eyelashes naturally but it means they clump horribly with anything that’s “volumising”.

Idontgiveashitanymore · 24/04/2022 21:32

I don’t like that trend with bum implants , why would you want to look disfigured?

Reallyreallyborednow · 24/04/2022 22:04

i don’t recall huge puffy lips and heavy contouring?

the bright colours, yes, and maybe a little lipliner outside the lipline, but nothing like todays drag queen look. And the hair was definitely not the same!

as for duran duran themselves, love a bit of eyeliner on a bloke..

Justkidding55 · 24/04/2022 22:11

Yes and lip fillers look ridiculous. I have pretty full lips naturally but now some people ask if I’ve had filler which annoys me no end

Blimeyherewegoagain · 24/04/2022 22:14

If this is what “living as a woman” looks like then I’m clearly a man.
The whole thing is so depressing.

Momicrone · 24/04/2022 22:14

So it was Desmond Morris who came up with the engorged vulva theory

theshavenraven · 24/04/2022 22:20

Look at the most recent The Apprentice. Most of the women on there were dressed like cheap hookers

Pumped up lips, fake tan, hair extensions, fake eye lashes, 2' of makeup etc etc

Going to a business meeting dressed like good knows what, so trashy and embarrassing

tootiredtoocare · 24/04/2022 22:41

Depends on whether it's done by a fully trained and qualified practitioner or someone who went on a day release course - if you're considering it, do your research, a lot of qualified health professionals are doing aesthetics to supplement their income. Also depends upon the ethics of the practitioner, will they just give their client what the client wants, or will they suggest a more natural looking enhancement? I know someone who is a very beautiful young woman (early 20's) with looks a lot of girls would die for but does the lip thing to the extreme, and I think it's really sad. She'll probably always have to do it now, I can't see her face just going back to normal after being so inflated for the past 3 or 4 years.

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/04/2022 22:49

ThreeLittleDots · 24/04/2022 20:42

Big lips are thought to reflect vulval engorgement

Yeah but that's just bollocks that some man thought up to explain why women like lipstick. If attractiveness was linked to vulval appearance, we'd be growing beards.

VintageVest · 24/04/2022 22:55

You are not being unreasonable. I do hope some of these trends will be short lived. Particularly the current fashion of young women pumping shit into their lips. I wonder what the long term effects will be.

Questiontellme · 24/04/2022 23:10

On one hand I hear you, but its only one 'style' if you want to call it that, I see other interesting styles and lots of short hair.

I would normally say a lot of it is filters and as long as its women amd not girls we should let people get on with it....however I had the most disturbing happening last week.......at busy crossroads waiting to turn right, car opp waiting to turn their right, I could see straight in and had to do a triple take as I honestly thought it was a see doll in the passenger seat, hands down moat grotesque thing I have ever seen IRL hugely inflated face, and lips with so much heavy sheeny make up on it looked plastic huge lashes and eyebrows, what must have been coloured contacts and long jet black extensions it was so extreme, I was thinking to myself for days why would anyone want to do that to themselves.

Questiontellme · 24/04/2022 23:14

@Echobelly Clinique something glossy in the thin silver tube in black brown is what you want.....I had the sane struggles last yr.

Montuaklighthouse · 24/04/2022 23:16

Yay for engorged vulva lips! 😆

I suppose SM has a lot to do with it. The Instagram effect.

i have female friends who continually chastise their faces for being too wrinkled, lips too thin, not perfect enough. It’s fucking depressing.

A few people have mentioned ‘drag’. I’d never thought of that but the look is very drag.

The obsession with lip fillers and just having huge lips in general is worrying as so many young girls think having these procedures is normal now.

Ohilovetorave · 24/04/2022 23:24

It's too sad and no we didn't look like this in the 80's, no one was injecting their lips I can bet you
