That beauty ‘trends’ are trying to make us all look like sex dolls?

As the subject line says - beauty standards / trends are just so… Unprogressive? Is that a word?

Huge exaggerated eyes with flicked eye-liner, contoured to death cheeks and tiny noses and overdrawn lips that look ready for a porn-shoot BJ (or lip-filler if you can afford it). Almost all young women have long hair as well, no interesting hairstyles.

Obviously I’m generalising, but it’s just so fucking boring. The Kardashians have a lot to answer for.

Yep. Hate it.

i lip read and can’t understand a word a lot of woman say now, so many have filler and it changes the way the mouth forms words.

to me as well natural is beautiful, and all that make up, botox and filler just hides a person behind a mask.

Moochio · 24/04/2022 19:42

Is that the current beauty trend? Most stuff I've seen is a lot more toned down and just a little bit more than "the natural look".

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/04/2022 19:43

It's all or nothing. Either porn star freakishness or Amish Chic. Boxy, ugly clothes, pinched faces and dreadful haircuts.

At least the second isn't expensive and painful.

PlasticineMeg · 24/04/2022 19:43

Yes, sooooo much make up and bright purple and green eyeshadows. Looks awful

Where are you seeing this?! I feel so out of touch. I'd love some green eyeshadow!

That must be so annoying!!

im not sure about the eyebrow flicks because they’ve been a thing since I first put make up on at 12ish?
contour shouldn’t be done the way most girls do it now, awful.
and I agree about the lips, I also lip read as I’m of poor hearing and it does make it hard. I also get scared that they’ll notice I’m staring at their lips but I do that with everyone!

i do love seeing an interesting looking person!

Amish ‘chic’ - I guess this is the alternative to sex-doll chic😂

It’s like we aren’t allowed to have noses but we must have colossal fucking pin cushions for lips.

example. Looks like me after I nicked my mum’s make up palette at age 8

the first time I met someone with botox/filler I couldn’t work out why their mouth was moving so peculiarly. I must have looked like a right nutter as I was staring at their mouth with an utterly confused look. Now I’ve recognised it it sticks out a mile.

i watch those tiktok “transformations” from gorgeous healthy girls into something between a bratz doll and a drag queen, and can’t help thinking they should recognise how lovely they are without the massive lips and eyebrows.

Montuaklighthouse · 24/04/2022 20:05

Oh yeah, the eyebrows.. Saw a video the other day of someone combing theirs upwards and then sort of gelling them ‘up’ strand by strand.

catsonahottinroof · 24/04/2022 20:06

I agree with the sentiment but I thought things had moved on from this, although this type of look is still popular. A nice trend I've seen, although still rare, is girls with short hair but wearing dresses or other obviously feminine clothing, with no or minimal makeup. I don't see how this fake look can last forever and feel so sorry for the girls with no self confidence who have been conned into having 'procedures' done in the prime of their life.

Catshaveiteasy · 24/04/2022 20:07

Totally agree. It seems so regressive to me. My teen dd was watching "celebrity ex on the beach" and I just couldn't stop commenting on how awful all the women looked - like Instagram clones, with big lips, massive eyebrows and long hair. (Also all unnecessarily loud and aggressive too?)

Dd has sometimes said she would like lip filler- her lips are perfect as they are.

Echobelly · 24/04/2022 20:12

This reminds me of the other day when I wanted to buy some mascara for daytime use, and I could only find one mascara that wasn't like 'SUPER FALSE EYELASH EFFECT MEGA GIANT THICK LASHES' in super blackest black. I just want something subtle to make my pale eyelashes visible when I'm wearing makeup for crying out loud!

Moomeh · 24/04/2022 20:14

I vote yabu because all "beauty trends" ie make up is misogynist at its root in my view (I know many women don't agree with this).

Women are beautiful, as beautiful as men. We don't need to cover up our faces if men don't.

Libertaire · 24/04/2022 20:31

There are benefits to being over 50 and no longer giving a toss about such nonsense. Not that I ever did at 25, either, but there was no social media in those days. If there had been, I probably still wouldn’t have given a toss though…

Josette77 · 24/04/2022 20:32

Not a fan of the idea big lips are porn BJ ready...
I don't like altering ones face, but the connection between large lips and being a sex doll is pretty offensive.

Momicrone · 24/04/2022 20:34

Never thought about a distinction between daytime and night time mascara before

ThreeLittleDots · 24/04/2022 20:42

Big lips are thought to reflect vulval engorgement

A580Hojas · 24/04/2022 20:45

Hopefully it will change soon. Incidentally, my 21 year old dd and ALL of her female friends (without exception) hardly wear make up. She's got a couple of friends who will go to town for a big night out, but they don't plaster it on day in day out.

It will have it's day. Be patient.

Josette77 · 24/04/2022 20:47

Fake big lips on white women are such a bizarre fetish of black women. And the idea big lips are "porn star lips" is a pile of crap for those of us born with them.

stiritwithaknife · 24/04/2022 20:48

What's wrong with long hair now?

Uttoxerley · 24/04/2022 20:48

I just got back from a country where lip
fillers are quite common. Without exception, they look shit. Completely fake bordering on utterly ridiculous. It’s just painfully embarrassing to think the owner is pleased or happy with how they look. As a “trend” it can’t die soon enough.

XenoBitch · 24/04/2022 20:49

YANBU
Someone on my FB posted a pic of Madonna (she has had a lot of work done, and does not look like herself at all), and said she was her beauty goal. My heart sank.
