Will Labour ever get back in?

My understanding is that the labour majority was in part because of the Scottish vote, which seems to have gone to the SNP.

I realise it’s unlikely that the Tories will get back in with such a large majority as 2019 but will there actually be enough seats for Labour to win?

Not until they change their entire front bench.

balalake · 20/03/2022 10:36

I cannot see it happening in 2024. If the Tories have any chance of losing a majority they will ditch Mr Johnson, and then use every smear possible, and sow the notion that the SNP piper will call the tune.

Aprilx · 20/03/2022 10:44

Yes of course they will. There have been times when I have been unable to see how the opposition would every make it back in, but they do. I think that is an inherit “fairness” in our population and there always comes a point where people think it is time for the other side to have a turn (not everybody has strong unshakeable feelings one way or the other).

Blueblossompinksky · 20/03/2022 10:46

I don’t know if it’s so much about fairness as people being desperate for change, but I agree with that! What I do wonder is if the situation in Scotland will mean that’s impossible, though.

I mean, if the Tories aren’t voted out now then when?

Not until they know what a woman is!!

I was a staunch Labour voter all my adult life - canvassed and campaigned for them, went to meetings the lot. They have completely lost my vote for their woke can’t call a woman a woman shite.

Even without that I think they will struggle in the 24 election. They’re not cohesive as a party and not a strong enough opposition.

toconclude · 20/03/2022 10:58

@Acheyknees

Not until they change their entire front bench.
And presumably replace them with good solid Corbynite comrades? Yeah, landslide incoming 🙄
RubyTrees · 20/03/2022 11:03

Not until they know what a woman is!!

If they struggle to understand the definition of a woman, they won't be surprised when women decide not to vote for them.

FrancesGumm · 20/03/2022 11:04

I agree - I will be asking any Labour canvassers again for their definition on ‘what is a woman’ …

caringcarer · 20/03/2022 11:07

I think boundary changes before next election will make it harder for Labour to get in. In the past Labour had favourable boundaries but now they are being adjusted to be fairer to other parties.

SantaCarlaCalifornia · 20/03/2022 11:08

I've come to the conclusion that they don't want to be in power right now. They would prefer to be able to heckle from the other side but not have to deal with any of the issues that are actually going on at the moment. I mean who would want to deal with brexit, covid, Russia, etc?

They have missed so many open goals and are more interested in purity and identity politics than actually winning anything.

Nothappyatwork · 20/03/2022 11:25

Historically by the time any parties had three terms the electorate has had enough of them and is ready for a change it’s almost like seven years of feast and seven years of faming.

maltravers · 20/03/2022 11:27

I don’t like the tories, but how can I vote Labour when they are so awful about acknowledging the need to balance rights so as to protect women? They don’t even know what a woman is it seems. Yeah right.

Cazziebo · 20/03/2022 11:31

Scotland's not big enough to have such an influence - that's one of the key arguments for independence. It did help though push the line over to a labour majority. The issue with Labour is that they have lost their support in the English constituencies. Lib Dems are too weak not to pick it up - they had the opportunity back in 2010 (?) but were tarnished by the coalition government.

The huge issue in our democracy is that in both Westminster and Holyrood there is no credible opposition. The result is that there is no accountability and we have very poor governments in both. I don't see Labour or the Lib Dems changing anytime soon.

We're in a dangerous place.

Samcro · 20/03/2022 11:36

i hope so

Georgeskitchen · 20/03/2022 11:39

To stand any chance of power the Labour needs to cut out the cancer of the extreme far left, which to be fair on Starmer, he is trying. They need to bring back what they were originally meant for, to stand up for the working classes

A580Hojas · 20/03/2022 11:41

Not while they insist "Trans women are women".

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/03/2022 11:45

Not until they know what a woman is!!
You need to ask Conservative candidates too. Plenty of them have swallowed the TWAW line.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 20/03/2022 11:46

If you don’t know who women are, how can you expect them to vote for you?

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 20/03/2022 11:46

If the economy gets bad enough - yes. But only for one term since they don’t have the ideas, coherency and drive needed to bring us back out of the mess we’re in.

Jamoffmytoast · 20/03/2022 11:48

They will yes

WildPoinsettia · 20/03/2022 11:50

Labour are in in Wales and our lives are better for it, compared to those in England. I hope they stay in Wales and if they get into Westminster, even better.

Birdy474 · 20/03/2022 11:50

Let's hope not. Who wants the lying head the ball crazy clown car gender nutter party in. Lol. Not me.

Florenz · 20/03/2022 11:51

Things would have to get REALLY bad for Labour to get in. They have driven away so many of their core supporters in an attempt to appeal to a very small number of activists, and I have absolutely no idea why. They need to be as far away from "woke" as possible as it is electoral poison.

PrincessPaws · 20/03/2022 11:55

Isn't the NHS in Wales even more buggered than everywhere else in the UK though?
WouldBeGood · 20/03/2022 11:57

I would like to vote Labour but won’t do so until they know what a woman is.

Starmer has been a massive disappointment all round.
