I drove past it on Thursday LadyEloise10 and was also amazed at how many flags there were. DS was with me and asked which one was the Russian Embassy and I told him that he could make a pretty good guess based on how the density of Ukrainian flags increased as the got closer to the embassy. Plus, of course, the Garda car parked outside the gate and the protesters opposite were a pretty big clue. Grin

Late one night a couple of weeks ago I drove past the Russian residence on Ailesbury Road. A garda car and an unmarked garda car parked outside with some gardai having a chat. I'd say that's a VERY boring assignment, making sure the Russian ambassador has an uninterrupted night's sleep.

LadyEloise10 · 25/04/2022 14:27

I passed it recently too and there was only an unmarked, undercover garda parked a bit away.
The Russian ambassador's garden backs onto a Chinese embassy official's garden.
I wonder do they have a chat over the garden wall Smile

Interesting- we were in Canberra (Australian capital and home of diplomats) recently and noticed the Russian Embassy had a HUGE amount of building work going on. The large site was about 60pct new buildings.

Maybe Russia is trying to spend money overseas quickly???

If a government has money to spend planning long term 5- 10- 20- 50- 100 years out🤺 on infrastructure in foreign nations is not a bad idea to build big with growing room.
If you believed it would be harder to build a large property in 5 or 10 years time build and hold is a good strategy.
If you are building a castle wall and mote you should think about what happens when yea olde grandechilder grow up or you need to hire and house lads to man the walls.

Or ..... someone has plans to move the embassy to a new location and sell off the existing property.....

SolasAnla · 03/05/2022 10:20

So... anybody local who can check if the basement was built to be waterproof??
